Ok i just love all the wonderful comments that stem from my bad experience. the only difference between this machine and my narrower 240 it the engine and all the pa crap they made new holland bolt onto an otherwise very reliable engine. to those who don't like me because i point out machines good and bad points we'll thats ok i think its a good place to express your opinions.the engine will never be under stress in any conditions. its the hydraulics that are the failure.the steering also and the uncontrollable forward trusting of the whole machine that will fatigue any operator.you can witness all three major problems with this machine in this video.

onelonleyfarmer from my own experience with the engine and seeing the mowed ground I can take conclusion that the mower self is great. 6,7 FPT is a great engine and the mowing quality is good also but if you want a new Holland mower take a pull type

@onelonleyfarmer I have never run a machine like that, so I cannot share any experiences on a windrower. However I have to say I can see what you mean. Especially what you pointed out regarding the lack of weight on the back is observable in this very video.. I mean the machine does look unstable under these hilly conditions. .

Ok cutting hay can be a difficult job, depending on the equipment you have to do the job. I currently cut hay with a Kuhn 7 foot disc mower. Driven by an International 574 (55hp+/-) open station. Used to use a 9 ft IH sickle mower. So if I was given an option to stay cool in the Texas heat while reducing my field time significantly I would definitely go with the New Holland! If I’m cutting hay in large quantities I’d go with the John Deere. It’s all about points of view and what’s the next step to improving your field times! So thank you for both sides of the story!

Cant see what everyone is bitching about seems like this 260 is doing a fine job with no issues. Looks like the rear end is on air suspension maybe thats why it pops up some on turns so it doesn't jerk you around etc. Think of having a round bale on the back of a tractor and then it shifts it weight quickly and how it will toss you around.

I don't know anything about these particular machines except for this video & what I read on the IH web site. In the video they appear to work well and quickly. We have many small, uneven fields here, and operators travel many old roads from field to field to harvest hay. I thought these machines might reduce time and labor dramatically. Thanks.

Hunter John I had similar problems Wes did. The truth of the matter is, New Holland reliability is at an all time low. Plus corporate doesn't care about the end user. When my dealer couldn't fix mine, I called New Holland and no matter what they would not talk to me. After 40 min or more on hold, I was told to call my dealer and hung up on. This happened 7 times. I finally gave up and have now sold everything NH I owned including my highly problematic BB340 and replaced it with John Deere and Krone. New Holland is junk.

Take a look at the weight of his bails and the amount he produces per Acre. His wind rows appears to be double the size this wind rower is producing. Meaning he is running twice what this machine is. Farms out here in Iowa hardly ever run Hay in a field more than one or two seasons before changing the crop in that field. Wes has fields that have been hay for more than 5 years That is well fertilized and tested so producing more Hay per acre.

all New Holland speedrowers bailers and pull type mowers are painted red in the United States !!!!!
@bigtractorpower7 жыл бұрын
Good question. I am not sure but here is my guess. New Holland started in 1895 and all there grinders and engines were red and then they got into haying machines in the 1930's they painted those red and yellow. There was talk around 1989 of painting the hay tools Blue but it got a big Noooooo from the dealers. Why are they yellow in Europe? My guess is because Sperry-New Holland bought Claeys combines in 1964. Claeys Combines were yellow and I would guess New Holland used the Claeys dealership network to distribute New Holland hay and forage equipment in Europe. The Claeys combines were imported to the U.S. and from 1965 to 1972 they were painted red to sell in North America. Variations are always interesting. Great question.
@bigtractorpower7 жыл бұрын
The hay tools are all red here but the NH factories make the yellow ones for Europe too. I have seen all yellow Speedrowers on a semi near St.Louis. If I can find the pics I took of them I will post them on Instagram.

I have to toss my experience with New Holland also. Onelonelyfarmer is exactly right, NH has problems with hydralics and controls. Mine is 40 years of construction operating the four major brands. 1. This video sounds like an advertisement for New Holland. 2. It would have been more informative if it had shown the operator in the seat while it was swathing, so we could see whether the operator looked comfortable, and so we could see how easy it is to steer.
@bigtractorpower7 жыл бұрын
+Al Tinfoil my goal in sharing videos is just to share information on what a machine is doing and what it's specifications are. All film all brands. This is a hobby for me and I enjoy seeing and sharing equipment at work. Where I live in KY farms use pull type mowers. The area I live and film in WKY just saw its first tractor mounted triple mower hit the fields this year. I was excited to get to film and share this 260 because I have not had a chance to film a swather. I was in Iowa and my friend who owns this 260 invited me to his farm to film it. He is very happy with the mower. I never show the drivers in my videos. I am just showing and talking basic info on the machines. It's only been in the past year I added narration to my videos. From 2010 to 2016 I just posted videos of machines at work. I rarely even got in the cab to film. I started narrating the videos because people were asking for details on the machines. I always just share general info. I am not a farmer or a technician so I do not have an opinion on the machines. I do enjoy watching other KZbin channels to learn what farmers like on their machines and how the maintain and repair them. My goal is just to share what they do in the field and when I find classics or rare machines to share their history. If I can find more swathers I would like to film them. It would be neat to share a Case IH, Massey/Challenger, MacDon and John Deere.

I would go for a John Deere version of this speed rower,much better stability.I watch every video Wes made about this machine that he bought BRAND NEW!!,its junk and when money is tight,you simply cannot take chances.Failure isn't a option and you have to stay within budget,but at the same time buy a machine that's safe and reliable,with a dealership network that will back your machine to the max..John Deere gets my vote.

What's the working speed on one of these?
@Wyomingfarmer7 жыл бұрын
Ok so there are problems with this swather, it is a fact. Now like Wes said his was a lemon, the hydraulic issues it had started from the factory but there are problems with it. One. they raised the whole machine for more ground clearance, raising the center of gravity, easily noticed when slowing down or stopping. It needs more of a constant ride height rear suspension, just airbags don't work good enough anymore. Two. they made the Castor wheels pivot with a lot of rake angle so when reversing or turning sharp it always raises the rear end making it even more unstable feeling and the high center of gravity very noticable. Three. the new steering setup is just as sloppy as the old but oddly they raised the top speed. They really need to get the steering under control. Both drive wheels need speed sensors in order to have a computer actually run the valves correctly, so that when the wheel is straight the mower, given there's no wheel slippage, actually goes straight.
