I did exactly how you described it. Watch this video while as l was doing it. Used JB weld putty sets up in 12 minutes, hardens in 3 hours. Make sure that it's pushed in good before you put everything back together. It's been over a week. Working great. Thanks for the tip. Saved me some $$$.

After 20 minutes or so when I put the putty on, I jammed the male end of a 3/8" to 1/4" socket adapter into the solenoid wedged between the seat with a long flat head screwdriver. I kept testing the shifter but it was still locking up until I did that and just let it set overnight just in case.

I inherited a 2001 Grand Marquis LS recently. It would shift from park without pressing the brake. Found out a mechanic had worked on the steering column because of a bad ignition switch. I found the 3-wire electrical connector was not plugged in to the end of the shift-lock solenoid. I plugged it in and now it works correctly. I would have thought that unplugging it would have locked it in park. But it works just the opposite.

They are spendy to replace you have to remove the entire steering wheel and airbag to get the piece out its a real pain if it was as simple as unscrew a couple of screws and slide it out great Amazon sales the part on Amazon for 60 but it's not as simple there's a bracket the airbag and the entire steering wheel removal that makes this a pain.

I’ve been reading the comments and getting confused. The silver metal tab is what gets pushed I’m not that little round cap correct? So what are these people talking about spraying live on the and popping the round black part off. I guess i don’t know the way out works until i find a video showing me a working one. When the metal hers pressed making contact out that supposed to release the round thing assuming it’s a piston? You putty cover that black round part also so that will never come out. Mine oss already pressed completely in and not moving

So the mettle clip broke off in the same part so releasing the way by shoving a screwdriver in the hole wasn't going to work unfortunately. But I spread some wd40 around the release area and popped off the bottom of the circle piece next to your white compound you used only I just popped the cover off and tapped the bouncing button while pulling the lever and whaaa laa it did what you described no break to drop into gear but no more problems. Simple fix until I can dish out 300-400 for a permanent fix.
