I believe you are supposed to measure to the top of the ball pocket on the trailer and then make sure that the ball is about one(1”) higher then that in-order to spread the weight properly accepts both the front and rear of the T.V. To check this you must measure both the front “and” rear wheel wells and adjust the hutch such that the measurements are as close to equal as possible

My 2015 Durango levels out fairly quickly. Factory tow package. I pull a 2,500lb tent camper with 350 to 400 tongue weight. Sure wish I had the Anderson hitch when the truck in front of me blew a tire and we had to swerve. That's when you really need an anti-sway hitch - when something unexpected happens.

Nice video, very informative. I wanted to point something out though. Whenever exerting large amounts of force through a wrench, it is a good practice to be PULLING on the wrench rather than pushing on it. Watching you torque those bolts I was thinking of what happens if the wrench slips? That big old wrench and your knuckles will slam into the back of the customer's vehicle.

I pulled a Scamp 16 with a Ford Escape with tow package last Winter down South. It did fine, except a larger tow vehicle would have been nice in the mountains of Colorado. Sold the Scamp, my next camper that I will someday get is an R-Pod 195 or 196 & a V-8 truck to pull it with. Thanks for the video, the Anderson Hitch is what brought me here.

Hey just a note... With this hitch you always want to load the majority of the weight onto the ball AFTER you've setup and fully tightened the chains... This way you can properly transfer the required amount of weight to the front axle. You would have had much less squat/better handling if you did it that way instead :) Andersen hitch has a few factory videos that show that method of installation.

in the past you always recommended the Equalizer WD hitch system. How would you compare the Andersen WD system to the Equalizer in terms of effectiveness of the sway control? The guys at eTrailer say the Equalizer is the best in this price range but they don't sell the Andersen line so they may be biased.

Series idea. You help people buy a truck and trailer combo that is right for them and get them set up with the appropriate hardware like WDH, etc. and then catalog the process with videos on the truck trailer accessories and then one with it all together maybe, and what problems you helped them avoid and maybe explain your opinions on why you guided them in a certain direction. Just a thought because I like seeing you analyze stuff.

We debated trailer brakes and a brake controller were into rescue and community aid i tow a small travel trailer under 2900 lbs loaded with a JKU and another "AMBO" a trailer converted to a mobile clinic with a Grand Cherokee the trailer brakes made a huge difference especially on down hill slopes. Looking for better weight distribution and sway control for both the hitch has to have good movement any advise would be appreciated. The hitch on the tow vehicles does pitch and roll it accepts a normal class 3 receiver, the roll sometimes adds to sway we have contacted Anderson and they tell us the WDH will work Perfectly. I realize this is a bit different but our groups safety is very important. ,good video love your channel, so much great information.

I have been using my Anderson WDH for the last couple of years and I love it because its light weight and seems to work pretty good. I rent my TT (33 feet, 8000 pounds) and the company that rents it out uses their own WDH for customers, so when I use my TT I use the Anderson and since I have to install it every time I can't use something like a Hensley, etc... I have never used a Hensley, but I have used the standard WDH's in the past and this works better than those standard WDH's. I tow mine with an F-150 and you still get the blow by when a large truck passes you, but it seems like it's affecting the Truck and Trailer as a single unit rather than causing sway. If I used an F-250 or equivalent then I probably wouldn't have that issue, but when you are towing a large TT with a 1/2 ton then there isn't much you can do to prevent that. Also, the Anderson is WAY less expensive than the Hensley and WAY less weight on your hitch.

Have you seen the videos of the small trailer type hitch system that is said to allow you to tow a heavier trailer than you should. E able to. It's a mini trailer type hitch that you can hookup a filth wheel or gooseneck to a SUV or a heavier trailer to it so the weight of hitch is on it instead of your truck or SUV

Sold on the Andersen WD hitch! I’m disabled so I’ll need a WD hitch that is easy to hookup. I think the best combo to eliminate any white knuckle towing scenarios with Lance 2285 travel trailer will be an F250 power stroke. I haven’t purchased the truck yet and understand the advantages of a long bed. Below are the weights for my chosen travel trailer. Are there any other considerations you can think of? Gross Dry Weight 4930 Lbs. Hitch Dry Weight 635 Lbs. Axle Weight 4295 Lbs. Cargo Carrying Capacity 2070 Lbs. GVWR 7000 Lbs.

Instructional videos are great! Would you be able to do an extensive and thorough instructional video on how to attach a weight distribution hitch with anti sway to a 2019 Ram 1500 with air suspension please. I'm very curious about this. There's a good video explaining why just lifting the rear with air bags isn't entirely the solution. It may look level, however this is sort of an illusion because the weight is still more on the rear wheels and the front end is still not having the weight distributed up there. The only way to get the front end weighted more is by using the weight distribution bars. Please make a good video regarding this situation. Thanks

The nivomat shocks take a few miles and a few good suspension rebounds to “pump” themselves up. A few laps around a flat parking lot I doubt moved the suspension around enough to allow it to do its job. I have the same shocks on my expedition EL and they work well when allowed to.

The Durango is very underrated as a tow vehicle. Keep in mind this is UNIBODY X frame construction, super solid and great handling Mercedes chassis. The v6 will tow 6200lbs, 5.7 V8 7200lbs, and the 6.4 SRT 8700lbs! Amazing tow numbers for a UNIBODY SUV. Also it helps that these are RWD standard, not FWD like all other unibody SUVs....

In part one of the Anderson no sway you pointed out the advantages over the tradition WDH was you didn't need a torque wrench and the ball came with the hitch. Well, turns out you need a torque wrench with the Anderson and it has to come with the ball since it is proprietary. This looks to be an issue if you wanted to tow a different trailer, say a small utility with a smaller ball, for example.
@BigTruckBigRV
@BigTruckBigRV 6 жыл бұрын
You are correct in regards to needing a torque wrench, however, the bolts are a standard 22mm vs typical ball bolts that are much larger and require a 3/4 wrench. You are also correct in regards to the ball not being swappable

For heaven’s sake. You didn’t measure the fender height before loading the trailer to see if the auto leveling did anything. I’m not a Durango fan at all. So no complaint there. #2. I owned a trailer and loved the concept of the Anderson sway control you used and I bought one. When the triangle hitch ball stayed out of position after say backing the trailer into a spot AT AN ANGLE you couldn’t move it back to straight to reset your nuts on the red resistance bumpers. It was a pain to get down on the ground and try to get the nuts correctly positioned at any angle except straight on. Maybe I was doing something wrong but I’m tried variations. It worked ok for sway and did level the trailer. But after a while I didn’t trust it as much as I do the Equalizer hitch I now have. FYI.

In the original issue of this video there were several comments pointing out that all shock based leveling systems need sustained movement in the shock to 'inflate' which was certainly not the case here. As mentioned I had several Ford Expeditions with shock absorber based load leveling. All worked flawlessly and came to target level after a few highway miles. Wondering why you reissued this video, but didn't take your obviously inadequate test and assessment of the load leveling system out. Not your usual quality of information.
@BigTruckBigRV
@BigTruckBigRV 6 жыл бұрын
Martin, we drove the Durango about 1 mile over very uneven grounds before you saw the second measurement. Also, according to the manufacture of the shocks (Nivomat), they claim the vehicle only needs to be driven a few meters before it will return to the original height (kzbin.info/www/bejne/n3usdH6rfbh0m9E). There is no mention from Nivomat that they need "sustained movement" as you indicated. If those shocks require additional movement to level, then the manufacture should not be posting the information they did. Remember, filming a video such as this one requires editing out long stretches at times. We drove the Durango significantly further than seen here. As with all my videos/reviews, if we find that the vehicle levels and raises up over a longer test period, I will show that as well.
@mwolfer1
@mwolfer1 6 жыл бұрын
Interesting, can you share a link to the information Nivomat provides and you are referring to? I believe you are an engineer, and understand how these shocks work. It doesn't seem to be a very credible claim that a few meters on level ground, i.e. very few movements of the shocks with an amplitude likely in the millimeter range could accumulate enough pressure to equalize the differential made by an additional 300 lbs load and an estimated drop by 20 to 40 millimeter (I don't believe you measured the height before loading the suspension).
@BigTruckBigRV
@BigTruckBigRV 6 жыл бұрын
Martin, I understand what you are saying and agree for the most part. I am referring to the KZbin video in the link I put in my last comment. The camera did not record the measurement (probably user error) before adding the trailer tongue weight. It was just under 33". I didn't believe the claims of "just a few meters" either, that is why we pull the trailer about a mile throughout the storage facility over several drainage and transition areas to give the shocks the ability to adjust up.
@BigTruckBigRV
@BigTruckBigRV 6 жыл бұрын
Martin, for a better understanding of where we pulled the Durango initially, watch this older video and start at the 10min mark please: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gqHaZZSiptyXbrc That is the same course we tool with the Durango/R-Pod. I believe you will see that there was more than enough movement to "pump" up the shocks if they were going to .

Put ride rite air bags on anything your going pull trailer. Handle way better in corners and wind. And besides make pickup trucks ride like caddy.

@@jimjohnson3244 last set I bought was $265. You can also buy a air pump that mounts up your hood. I did not buy air pump, I just used air compressor. They also say to link both air bags together to one air fitting. DO Not, have separate air line on each side to air fitting. This greatly helps body roll in corners. I had half ton Chevy truck with them and put ton scrap metal in bed. Also pulled goose neck with 25,000 lbs tractor on it. No squat at all and stable in corners. You can go anywhere from 10 lbs air to 110 lbs psi. I never used more than 24 psi.

I think you're making a mistake in using the load levelling system on the truck to bring the rear end up. The WD system if effective ing the whole truck down, totally didn't pay attention to the front of the truck and what happened to it when putting the trailer on the ball.I like the idea of the hitch but the video didn't talk at all about the ability to transfer weight to the front .
@RagersReach
@RagersReach 5 жыл бұрын
The hitch used is solely anti swat as the name empties. There is no weight distribution going on.
@32mavrick32
@32mavrick32 5 жыл бұрын
RagersReach that is not true. This is also a WD hutch as well as an anti sway the just did not set it up properly there are better videos on KZbin and the Andersen site that show the proper instillation. I am not knocking this channel as they have a tone of great 👍🏻 information on so much stuff. I just don’t think they do this product the justice it deserves.

I said it once but my comment seems to have disappeared. This is not a Weight Distribution System. This is a very nice and fancy sway control, but it does not distribute any weight from the hitch to the front of the vehicle. Which is the typical if not "generally accepted" definition of weight distribution.

This is completely wrong. This install rendered the hitch ineffective. Please watch the install videos provided by the manufacturer and notice that you aren't supposed to completely raise the tongue jack prior to setting the chains. Please remove this video. If people follow these instructions they will get no weight distribution benefit from the product.

Hi BTBRV. As you know, a recall of about 2 million Ford F-150s was recently announced to fix a seat belt defect that may cause a fire under certain conditions. Due to the large number of trucks involved, please consider releasing a video about it as a public service announcement to viewers who may be affected but have not yet heard about it. Thanks.
@XploreAz
@XploreAz 6 жыл бұрын
Leonard I would imagine that if someone purchased one of these newer Ford trucks (2015-2018), they will be notified by mail. I doubt they get their recall info from a KZbin channel.
@leonard7475
@leonard7475 6 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, Ford doesn't have the correct name and address of all current owners. For example, they may have incorrect information if someone has recently moved or sold the truck. Due to the large scope of the recall, I thought that it would be helpful for BTBRV to mention it.
@leonard7475
@leonard7475 6 жыл бұрын
I disagree. It's been over 4 years since the earliest trucks in the recall were manufactured on March 12, 2014 at the Dearborn plant, which is plenty of time for ownership errors to occur. Even if just 5% of their database entries are incorrect, about 100,000 owners won't be notified.
@memphis28571
@memphis28571 4 жыл бұрын
You measured that completely wrong. You measured to the bottom of the coupler and the top of the ball. You want the ball to be 1.5” higher than the TOP of the coupler, that way when you put the weight of the trailer on the TV, everything is level.

Should have measure the finders before you loaded the trailer. Also no video of you pulling the trailer to see if it swayed, need to get it on the highway and see it when you go pass a large truck, or when one passes you. Would like to seen it before the hitch and after. At th I s time I'll say with my equalizer hitch system.
