This would be nice for going though fields and pastures. Many times I've had tree branches, stalks, and weeds grab the cable to the plug and pull it out, usually breaking something. Having it just pop out would be nice. Been trying to go to the zip breakaway cables for the same reason. Since they stay up out of the way.

@@servicetrucker5564 It's a nice idea and all to carry spare parts. However, the great majority of folks can be absent minded and forget little accessories at home, or another vehicle. What ALMX5DP is talking about is wide-spread product availability. This is a great product, but it hasn't taken off yet to be so standard that you could walk into any truckstop or farm/ranch supply and pick one off the shelf. The proprietary nature of this plug would leave you having to order new parts from them if you had a mid-trip mishap.

I converted my first 5th wheel to the EZConnector and it worked great until one time I went to connect and found the trailer end laying in a cow paddy. I had intermittent problems after that, usually with the trailer lights. That said it worked great before that incident. I kept a couple of the adaptors in the glove compartment of my truck so if had to use a tow vehicle that did not have the EZconnector I could still connect. It's a great product but the harness and adaptors are not inexpensive.

To restate the point of the ezconnector , as "95dodgev10" said, using the adapter to go back to the old style plug should be used ONLY for trailers that you borrow or pull for a friend. If you OWN the trailer, you should be changing the trailer connecter plug on all your trailers to remove the old design. Again, using the adapter regularly defeats the purpose of Joe's connector. Fantastic design.

I would assume that depending on the pin size of the connector that the current rating would differ. Next question is how many plug-in and disconnect cycles has this been tested for. Basically life expectancy. It would be nice if they made a grab handle on the cable when disconnecting instead of pulling it by the cable. I think eventually over time that cause issues. It looks like a unique product for sure but I think at some point in the those springs will stop working. There's no doubt about it that the industry needs something different. Good interview Just my 2 cents. JD try to find out the amount of failures in the field and what was a common fault.

It’s a great idea, but two things. I followed the link and didn’t see a way to find the one that will plug right into my wiring harness. Also, it is a bit pricier than I expected. Maybe I’ll give it some time and it will come down in price. I hope. 🙄😬 I think what I would do is mount the new type plug to my truck and the new end on my camper trailer and then get adapters in case I needed to tow a different trailer and get a 4 way adapter for my utility trailer. The problem is that would probably cost about $300 or so. If I’m understanding what I’m seeing here. Yikes. 😮

That 14 wire cord would replace the two seven wire ones now used for heavy trailers in Ontario and Michigan. they require power to ABS systems and lift axle switches and diagnostic returns back to the tractor. We're not allowed to lift axles electrically anymore but lights in the trailer would be nice and maybe a backup camera.

If you want to buy this and then use an adapter to adapt it to each trailer, you might as well save your money and keep everything OEM. Using the vehicle connection with the adapter still gives you the corrosion problems he's trying to save you from having because you're still using the 7-way connection. If you're going to do it, change out the vehicle and trailer connections and be done!

I hope someday something like this becomes the new standard. I had a traditional 7-pin socket installed on my van this summer. It failed the very first time I tried to use it and I had to replace it with another. It was too loose to hold the plug and so the plug kept breaking contact and thus would disconnect the brakes from my brake controller. Nothing like wasting 90 minutes (time to go to hardware store and back, then remove old socket and install new one) and $20 for absolutely no reason. And then, of course, it leaves you feeling from then on that your new socket is going to fail any day as well. And feeling like maybe I should always carry a spare replacement and the tools necessary to replace it - what if this happens at the campground the day I'm supposed to move my trailer?

So my only thing is, if they have been around for 10 years and doing well and have contracts with major manufacturers etc, why is the display sign a cheaply printed piece of paper or banner taped to an old wobbly table, 2 pails of bricks and no tent to shade from the sun with the company logo on it? It seems like a great invention and I am not knocking that one bit, but the first thing people see when they go to a show is how well the product is presented and how professional it looks. It honestly looks like this guy just showed up one day with 2 tables and some buckets and wires and setup shop. I would have a harder time believing in this product just based on the display he has and if they would honor warranty issues etc. And I know that there are companies out there with all the fancy setup that do not last but they at least look the part. This is just my opinion on the matter, some may feel the same and some might not . Maybe he is going for the "I'm a small start up looking for investors and don't have money for the fancy tent etc. But I wouldn't say to anyone that they have been around for 10 years, at this point the company should be profitable if they are in manufacturing facilities for AGV's etc.

One thing I noticed watching the video, was the lack of a visual reference of a proper connection. When connecting the pigtail of a semi to a trailer, the lid on the trailer side will stay at an angle until the pigtail has been pushed all the way in, and then drop down, securing the connection while staying level. It gives the user an obvious clue as to whether the connection is secure and proper. The E-Z connector is lacking this feature, as evidenced by at least one commenter below. One possible solution to this issue could be a colored end on the plug, which when properly connected wouldn't be visible. If not properly connected, this color (red possibly, indicating danger?) would stand out as a sour thumb.

Do not use this for DC-DC connections as the pins and wires aren't big enough for over 12v 15+ amps. I don't see the difference between having a seal on the lid of a 7pin female adaptor on the car and the trailer and having a cable with 7 pin male plugs? Having a camera connection in the 14 pin would get electrical interference aswell. Not to mention if a 7 pin corrodes then this will aswell as the connector is the same metal but the 7 pin makes a better connection.

Any problem I see is if you hardwire the plug to the trailer. What happens if you're tow vehicle breaks down or it's in the shop and now you have no way of connecting this back to a seven-pin conventional outlet. I have several trailers that's friends borrow all the time and I know none of them are going to change their connector on their truck. Also what do you do when you have the five pin for 4 pin connector for smaller trailers is that another adapter you would have to buy. Don't get me wrong I think this is a good idea. I drove tractor trailers for 30 years and I could not tell you how many times I had to fight to get my light plug into the trailer.

Pretty neat connector. Do they have an adapter to go back to the 7 flat pin? What if I have this style connector on my truck and trailer, but my buddy needs to borrow my trailer to haul something? Also a concern, is magnetic filings getting on the magnet preventing a solid connection. Driving down a dusty dirt road may have iron particles in the dust that would get on the magnet.

I would love to use one of these with my TT...I do not like that he said dielectric grease is non conductive - it has been used since 1974 on ALL electronic ignitions as a conductive anti-corrosive grease for electrical connections especially for elctronic ignitions - that statement he said was absolutely a lie. Product is a great idea and needed not to say anything not true. Hope he sells a bunch and corrects his incorrect statement.

I mean, using an adapter is just adding more problems? I get about 10-12 years out of the standard 7pin... I appreciate that it is an interesting product

My question is about misalignment. If I plug it in and the pins are misaligned, can the power pin make contact with the ground which would blow a fuse or worse?

This is great for theft prevention as well. Odds is a thief doesn't have the adaptor. Makes it much harder to steal if they can't hook it up. Locked brakes, and no lights on a trailer will make most bad guys move on to a easier target.

40 years of trailer towing ... I never ripped out a plug. They should show what the wad of gear looks like when the adapters are used. I wonder what the total surface area of contact is ... traditional vs this product. Contact surface of this new new connector looks to be less than what you get from spade type.

That is most definitely a game changer for hooking up any type of trailer connection. Given the option to have this new connector vs the original 7-pin connector I would definitely pay extra to get this new connector installed.

Do they offer a trailer side adapter? If the tow vehicle. Go’s down, it could be pulled by a friend or rental truck. 😮

Anyone have issues with the black wire overheating, or that location on this plug showing signs of heat issues? That would be my initial concern. Lare amounts of current going through those little round connection points and the resistance found in that spot
