With a power divider - the power would go to the opposite side, front axle (that's the reason for the 'X' symbol on the switch). Only with full lock up (rare on highway tractors - usually on off road such as dump trucks or log haulers) would you see power to both axles on the same side.
@aussiefarmer60128 ай бұрын
@@rpc6414 thanks, i am only used to having power dividers on dump trucks. I assumed they all worked the same as that. Pretty pointless having it if they don't work like a full diff lock then. I couldn't believe David got stuck if the truck had a proper diff lock. It should have easily driven away once engaged in that situation.

@danlowe86847 ай бұрын
@@bigtruckbigtravels Funny you said that because I just watched a vid from CBS 8 San Diego archives regarding snow in San Diego!! I found a news article you may enjoy: From the Evening Tribune, Wednesday, Dec. 13, 1967: A nasty storm slashed into San Diego County today with plunging temperatures, snow, sleet and freezing winds. Bizarre snowstorms were reported throughout the county. Light snow fell near the Mexican border and in downtown San Diego, and heavy snowstorms struck widespread areas. On top of Palomar Mountain the snow measured 2 feet deep by noon, “and that’s in the level areas,” said Mrs. Tom Miller, wife of the Palomar State Park ranger. “It’s stopped snowing now, but it’s still overcast and the wind cuts right through you,” she said. The park temperature at noon was 18 degrees. The sky cleared over many areas of San Diego by late morning, but blustery winds whipped through the air with a knife-light sting. The scene was repeated throughout Southern California, although a dry, windy Santa Ana condition had been forecast by weathermen. The storm, carrying extremely cold air, swept down from Canada and had been expected to pass through Nevada and move out to sea over Baja California. “We knew the storm was there, but we didn’t expect it to hit us like this,” said weatherman Kurt Muerdter. All schools, both elementary and secondary, were closed today because of the snow in the Fallbrook Union, Julian Union and Mountain Empire Unified districts. Borrego Springs and Alpine schools stayed open. Officials said they would let the weather decide whether the schools would open tomorrow. Heavy snow was reported in such unusual areas as the community of Rainbow just south of Temecula on U.S. 395. The storm dumped 6 inches of snow there and reduced traffic to a crawl. There were so many minor accidents that law enforcement officials were forced to tell people to move on and file reports later. Chains were required in most mountain highways. Three inches of snow fell on the desert community of Borrego Springs. “It’s the first time I’ve seen that,” said longtime resident Duke Pendley. For the second time in history, snow was observed at the weather bureau’s office at Lindbergh field. Snow fell there once before - on Jan. 11, 1949. “It’s most unusual,” said Muerdter. Thunderheads to the north forced Lindbergh Field to reroute its traffic. Most departing aircraft took off over the city rather than over Loma Portal, their normal flight pattern.

I had to chuckle at David's expense with the stuck situation. Glad to see I'm not the only one that temper arises from getting in that situation. Mine was in Rodanthe (NC OBX) moving on the sound side to a spot from the first one assigned to me for the reason of too much soft sand! So I was able to move to another one that looked...looked like a pull through (not just a back in) and my Class A had to find the only soft spot on that lot my feet did not when I walked it! Thankfully I got it out with the help of some wood planks found nearby (hint-I wasn't the only one who must have fell victim there). I did manage to get another lot and spent the next 30 days there. Funny how something like that can spike the blood pressure! Glad all was well with some friendly help. And yes, the desert can be a strange place with it's weather. You'll survive!

Maybe next time try dumping the air in the air bags any time your off road & unhooked till you get to hard pavement, reason being is with air in the bags when you are empty the bag like in flat, so to check this leave the air in the bags then put the truck in gear then give it some throttle then watch the truck rear go up at this point no weight on the axels, so emptying the air bags it acts like a solid axel
@bigtruckbigtravels8 ай бұрын
We dumped the airbags after we got stuck so maybe not soon enough. Probably need to look at a slightly more aggressive tread design for the tires as well. Thanks

@@bigtruckbigtravels only if you are going be off road a lot, most lug tires don't fare very well on pavement, also try not to turn the steering wheel when in static mode always move the vehicle a little before trying to turn the wheel, cuz to much pressure on the steering parts + you can break the frame that's why they moved the steering box out on the end if the frame it used to be just in front of your feet but drivers were turning the steering wheel statically then the frame would break right there, so you can see the problem with that + $$$%

#BigTruckBigTravels channel is now my most favorite RV channel! Why?? The video content, the still photos, of course. Now, Sondra found the most perfect tee shirt for her….camera. 😊. And, David’s quote from Die Hard! 😂😂 Entertaining for sure. ❤❤

Thanks, Yvette. That t-shirt was perfect for Sondra so she "had" to get it. Glad she did. We really appreciate your time watching the channel and are excited to have you along on the journey. Thanks for being a part of the story.

A ❤ for us are wolves (❤ your pics! ) In fact it's what prompted me to comment! ❤ of horses of course ❤ the landscape and sleepy towns. As a child and teenager I made several crosscountry travels with my lovely parents and brother who 90 percent of the time we got along with each other famously and had lots of laughs especially at some of the outrageous names of places! Thank you for taking the time to read my little note. I hope you're able to keep on trucking for a long, long time.

Love your videos 😊 I don't know if you have them in America, but here in Australia, we have maxtracs that are awesome when you have troubles with soft ground, mud, snow and sand etc. Congrats on 40k

Thank you very much. We're going to get better traction tires this summer. I'll check on Maxtracs over here. Can't believe we've hit 40K. Wow!

Was it a soft spot and it sank or a rut? I’m glad you had a friendly neighbor that helped you out. That’s nice! Yes, if you own a RV…it’s always something. Carrying tools and extra parts is a must as well as being handy. I hope the rest of your trip is uneventful. Take care!
@mrsbigtruckbigtravels7268 ай бұрын
Well.... it was a soft spot covered in gravel. When I felt Voyager slip, I stopped and tried to back up, and while failing to do so, I turned the wheel which dug Voyager down even deeper. 🫣 I now know not to turn the wheel while in a soft spot and not moving 🥴😇 Thanks for the comment and watching the Channel 🙂

It was a little bit of bad luck as well...all the areas around this one were fairly firm so it was just a series of unfortunate events.

Wow, we were so lucky when leaving when we did a couple weeks ago, going from southern Arizona to western Canada, we didn't hit any snow, and really not that much rain! Timing is everything it seems, so we just lucked out. Safe travels all!!

I spent a few years in Mojave dessert at China Lake/Ridgecrest. It would snow at least once a winter and it was below freezing. Mojave is a “high dessert” so yes it snows. lol.

Take the GPS out of the window, turn off the power and let it sit for 2 hours with the back panel open. It may have just over heated. Then turn it on using the internal battery only, if it comes to life give it a 1/2 hours to run on the battery. Then connect the external power source. If the unit keeps going to a black screen. Connect to the computer to do a internal scan and a update check, and let it go through the check system. Hope this works for you. John

Thanks, John. We've tried that the past two days with great success. It's our new procedure.

Also you should be able to engage the second set of drives now that you have the second set of tandems drives. When you got stuck all the weight of the truck was on the front set of drives.
@bigtruckbigtravels8 ай бұрын
Yes but it sure didn't look like the front tandem was locked. Going to check with the company that added the drives.

I grew up in Douglas, AZ, 4,000 foot elevation in the Sulphur Springs Valley, and it was not uncommon for us to get about an inch of snow in the winter. We had to hurry outside to try and build a snowman before the snow melted. It was usually gone by the next day unless we were successful in building our snowman. Then he would last awhile longer. I can't tell you how many times I wished for a white Christmas. Of course, that never happened until I moved to KY.😊 I just wanted to remind you to check out the Chiricahua Mountains, especially Chiricahua National Monument. The rock formations are pretty spectacular.

Most of the times I wish wish wish my compartments doors open to the side but at times like when the latch brakes I am glad my doors lift up . Did you get to see the water level at lake mead if so has it filled up much ??. On getting stuck now that you have a tandem axles can you not lock your axles in when you get stuck . You should have a air or electric switch on your dash for that locking in your axles . Just a thought. Thanks

Lake Mead is higher than in the past...I don't think it's significant but it is higher. Yes, we can lock them, I just don't think we had the traction control turned off. That was the issue. Thanks for watching

A friend of mine was a foreman at one of the goldmines in the desert in Arizona. It would get so hot in the day they had to wear long sleave white shirts to keep from burning. It was well over 100 degrees. The sand doesn't hold the heat and at night the water would freeze in the buckets.

What's wrong with your axle inner lock don't tell me you don't have one
@georgejulien32868 ай бұрын
Considering they just put in a second powered axle, they may not have one… or maybe don’t know how to use it. They need a power divider and axle locks if they’re gonna be boondocking if you asked me lol
@randallgeorge89458 ай бұрын
@@georgejulien3286 you mean they ordered it with a tag instead of a live axle that's kind of stupid I deleted my front axle but the rear was a locker it did have an inter lock from factory but I didn't want to run twin screw
@georgejulien32868 ай бұрын
@@randallgeorge8945 I’m pretty sure it started as a single, then they added a tag and then they swapped out the tag for a powered axle.
