Good job guys. Congrats on a wonderful animal. Nothing like having a good hunting buddy to share it with. Being almost 4 score in years, all my hunting buddies have already passed but the memories we shared for so many years are still with me while times spent doing other things have long been forgotten. Be safe, happy hunting and may God bless you.

Awesome Bull! I have that same Marlin and tagged a nice bear with it in Maine last October. I’m heading to Alaska in September to hunt for moose with a college buddy, I can’t wait.

Right on. That thing ridiculous. Every time I watch a video of one of these really big bulls I’m just blown away. This would be the dream hunt on day if I can afford it. I’ve shot canadian moose but those things are just on another level. Caribou in Newfoundland and Alaskan/Yukon moose. My top two I want to do.

I have a similar Marlin .45/70 I've been lugging around Alaska for several years now. I;m curious as to what type cartridge was used. Personally, I'm literally loaded for bear with a 430 grain hard cast bullet from Buffalo-Bore, traveling around 1,800ft./sec. A very hefty load at both ends.

From Vermont, It's funny to see the differences between us from up in the Northeast and for example Steven Rinella using different weapon platforms. 45-70 is essentially the standard in the Northeast for big game like Bear or Moose if you're so lucky to get a Maine, NH, or VT tag. Most shots are 100 yards and in, skinner sights, and multiple shots. Depending where you are, most people run pump guns in 30-06 as well, the old Remingtons. That, and old Marlin 336's with skinner sights.

How does a DIY hunt work in Alaska if you're required to be a resident or hunt with a registered guide? I guess this is a silly question, but can you hunt on your own as an Alaska-registered guide?
