This is insanely good Big Z, I'm listening on Neumann's NDH 20 and your mix sounds so damn clean! after watching these videos I can see why my mixes totally suck but these are huge gems thank you so much! Wishing you would mix a hip hop track at this level on your channel.

Two questions that popped up after I watched this: 1) Where did you come up with that -12 db gain reduction for the lows and -6 db gain reduction for the mids? Did you learn this somewhere or are you going based on a feeling as you mix? 2) I have heard people talk about specific formulas they use to get release times perfect on reverbs, compression etc. Are you following that or once again going based off a feeling as you mix? Appreciate your videos man I have learned so much!

Great video as always, thanks! If you want to remove the kick from a bar or two of the drop for variety, how do you stop the bass from suddenly poking out because it's not being sidechained any more? Would you automate the bass volume or add an extra compressor? I always have this problem ha!

Solid advice! Any particular reason you isolate the EQ-bands using Q3? Would it not be quicker soloing your custom bands in FF Pro-MB (without compression)? You still get the level information. Metric AB also has band-soloing built in.
