I was going to say I am surprised to see you out and about, but I am not really... I am pleased to see you wearing a crash hat! Ribs can take a long time to heal, although you feel better, you will be a bit vulnerable for a number of months ahead, so no mud wrestling or cage fighting for you. People will tell you to be careful with codeine as it is addictive, but don't worry, it is addictive if taken regularly and in a big quantity. Take what you need to feel pain free my friend...and look after yourself!!! We don't bounce now we are 26....

No bouncing for me now Bry, your right there. The meds worked surprisingly well for me, it could be because I don't take them often. Feeling good now but when they wear off I know about it:) I wonder if we will start bouncing when we get to 27? Thats only another 11 years away:))

Thanks Si, there is a similar hillfort not far away that has palisades on one side, again taking advantage of the natural fall of the ground on the other side, check out Bincknoll castle on Google maps, its not far from Royal Wooton Bassett

Glad to see you out and about again Sandy and hope your recovery continues. Must admit having broken my wrist a couple of times, codeine is a great painkiller but you don't want to be on it for too long as it can get addictive. I've had a suspension seatpost on a previous bike and it was also good. On the whole it provided good comfort and there was only one cadence level when it got into a bounce due to a natural resonance frequency. Happy cycling mate.
@WiltshireMan
@WiltshireMan 11 ай бұрын
These days Bill I just pedal slow and haven't noticed any resonances, however it is adjustable so if it started to self oscillate I may be able to tune it out:)

You'll be fine! Ribs only hurt if you breathe, laugh, move, fart or cry. I had the pleasure of talking to the farmer at the dairy in Avebury the other week. He said to be careful on my bike as someone had fallen off recently and pointed to where you were! I carried on going up to Canton? Horse grounds where I asked two very posh ladies for directions, they like my ebike and remarked that it was 'Very Maddy' (they were v. posh) I said unfortunately, it's not mud and told them of the dairy farm visit earlier. "OH IT'S SH*T!!" screeched one of them in the poshest ever voice! I asked how do we tell if it's mud or sh*t? She said very authoratively 'It's the smell.' I'll probably see you around one day, I'm on a brown bike:) Take care!

I am very happy to see that you are still able to do some of the things that you enjoy so much Sandy. I do know that the rib injuries tend to take a long time to completely heal and the pain and soreness will be in the background for quite some time in the future. I knew that it wouldn't keep you down for long though as long as there are woodlands to visit, bicycles to ride, and trails to hike..... As long as you are careful and get plenty of rest along with it, everything should go just fine my friend. That new seat post suspension system looks like a very interesting addition to the bike, it will probably require some getting accustomed to but it should certainly add some comfort to the rides. Thank you for showing it to us and I will be very interested to see how it works out for you. Thank you Sandy for sharing your day with us and I will see you on the next one. Happy Trails!

Hi from Ireland Sandy.. I have always been curious about these trikes. We dont see too many around here, except in summer when you see the very odd one touring through. i was tempted a few years ago when one came up for sale second hand in Dublin but i didnt get to it. You mentioned before about hip trouble, I have two dodgy hips. Did you find the recumbant helped with the hip issue or did it make any difference? Also having your legs in an elevated position like that looks uncomfortable/wearing/ tiring, did you find that to be the case? If you think about selling it let me know!! Best of luck and happy travels with it..
@WiltshireMan
@WiltshireMan 3 ай бұрын
Hi Ivan, Cycling in general has been a huge benefit for my hip pain which has become less since I started a regular cycling habit. Hopefully this "Recovery" will continue. As for the recumbent, it is the MOST comfortable and enjoyable pedal machine that I have, I like it over the two wheelers but it won't do everything for me as its not designed to off road like a mountain or gravel bike, so I shall use it for smoother surface rides. Cycling is low impact and will help with hip pain for sure.

Sandy, luckily I've never broken a bone cycling, but I recently slipped while trying to attach my 4m Yagi on top of a pump up telescopic mast, that resulted in a rib fracture. (For non-radio amateurs it's like a tv aerial, but 3.5m long by 2m wide, not the fracture, the Yagi:-) ) That took the full six weeks before I was pain free, so look after yourself, although I have to admit there's no way I would be able to sit around doing nothing. 73 de Steve

Done the exact same thing five weeks ago on my eMTB down here in Australia. Seventeen year old Brain seems to forget the other fifty years and that getting big air while fun when you make it, has its consequences when it doesn't. Time to ease up a bit as it now takes times to heal. Besides, sleeping in the recliner for three weeks is not comfortable at all. Hi Nicola, For me I would choose a conventional pedal bike becasue it means I don't have to charge it up, some of my rides are multi day and often no access to electricity, also when lifting a bike over a gate etc is easier with a normal bike, but nothing wrong with an E bike, I think they are great too

Filming and talking while cycling will increase your chance of falling.

Yes thats true, but it's the only way to get the shots, it's a calculated risk. I am more likely to fall of a bike whilst riding it than pushing it :) There are risks in everything

Good to hear you are recovering well. Can I ask that you use a young lady for the under the saddle shots while riding. 😂😂

Hahaaahaaaa, it's difficult Dave as I don't think any young ladies are willing to help an Oldun like me and all the older ladies I know would fully compress the saddle and seat post :)

@WiltshireMan Glad to hear it. I do KZbin, I like to push myself sometimes, but with having kidney failure and already having 1 kidney transplant, I still like to get outdoors as much as possible as you do. Take care, I enjoy watching your videos, especially your dogs.. 🐕 ❤️

Take it easy with those ribs Sandy, I had a very similar accident on a mountain bike in my mid 50s and it took months before the pain finally went away. After years of riding hard tail mountain bikes I decided my backside needed a rest and rather than paying for an expensive full suspension bike I fitted the same seat post as you and the difference is amazing, especially over rough trails. I also decided to give my old knees an easier time and fitted a Befang mid drive motor, so I'm back to doing long rides through the hills. By the way, I spend far more time on motorbikes than mountain bikes and that won't change until I can't hold them up anymore 😁. Thanks for your interesting rides and equipment reviews, I've watched most of them over the last couple of years. Cheers, Mick

Thanks Mick, It's been 3 weeks now since the crash and things are going well for me, I can't feel or hear the crunching sounds when I move and breath now so the ribs must have knit together, pain is reducing nicely too.

Morning, sorry to hear about your tumble particularly as I had a similar experience at the end of September, resulting in a broken shoulder blade. I'm glad to see you back on the bike so soon, I need to get back in the saddle before I seize up 😊. Don't overdo it, take your time and take care.

Hi Alan, It's been a bit up and down, one day I feel OK and the next not so great, I think it's going to be a few weeks before things are properly good. I keep feeling strange movement from the top of my chest where the rib(s) is broken, not sure how it is supposed to fuse and heal if there's movement like that? How is life treating you now? Where are you living? Hope your able to get cycling again soon
@alanprice7584
@alanprice7584 11 ай бұрын
@@WiltshireMan hi, the shoulder is improving all the time but every so often it gives me a little dig just to let me know it's still there 😄 I agree it's difficult to see how the bones will fuse if there's movement in that area, I suppose a shoulder blade is simpler as it's a rigid structure unlike a rib. We were living in North West Cumbria till we moved to the North East of Yorkshire about three years ago, I must admit the immediate landscape is fairly flat being as we are a hundred yards from the coast, I'd love to cycle more but my other physical problems make it difficult to say the least. I was watching your "crash" video with apprehension expecting it to happen at any minute so it was a relief when it happened, take care in the future.
