Here's a link to my Strava where you can see the route I followed:
/ strava
This is the first time I have used an Insta 360 X3 Camera, I can see how great an asset it will be for any video maker however I don't think I would use the onboard audio as it was very prone to wind noise. Maybe use it for certain shots where music can be laid over or add audio from another device which is something I do quite often.
I believe Roye England captured an image of my father in law Ronnie Shaw when he took his photo of Badbury.
I estimate the photo was taken between 1938 to 1940 and the boy (my father in law) is making his way back home up the hill. He is a lanky boy in shorts and with straight hair, Ron as I knew him was still and lanky chap and still had a full head of straight hair, sadly he died in 2012 so it's not possible to ask him if he could remember the photographer on the wall.
I'm as certain as I can be that it's my father in law in the photo but also around this time or shortly afterwards there would have been an influx of evacuees from London. I'd still put money on it being him though!
The photo was taken just a few yards up from the pub (The Bakers arms), the thatched cottage and its garden wall has changed but there are still many things that remain.
I rode my Planet X Tempest bike on this adventure, I am extremely pleased with this bike, it's everything I want from a conventional cycle, it rolls fast, changes gear impeccably and is exceptionally light and strong thanks to it's titanium frame.
I fitted a TRK SMP saddle to the bike together with a suntour suspension seat post which has transformed the ride especially on rough terrain.
The bike has 700C wheels and 40mm tyres running at 35 psi.
Thanks for taking the time to watch my videos, I hope I have inspired some of you to "Get out there". You are never too old!

I often go back to places of yester year, to see if anything remains of the places i remember as a child. Cameras and processing the film was quite expensive back then, so not many had cameras, barring the odd few a bit better off than we were back then. But I can still remember the images of all those years, as clear as day and try to get photos with todays tech advancements and occasionally find the odd place that hasnt changed too much over the years. Slept a lot of nights in those old telephone boxes back in the 70's, sheltering from the cold and rain through the night. No phones in any now...bring back those good ole days and fond memories of our mobile phone being the telephone box at the end of the road....When Buzby said "A long distance call still costs less than 10p, when dialed direct from your home phone" and phone boxes took 2p pieces

That was a very interesting video with some pretty good investigative content on piecing together some puzzle pieces relating to family history. Roye England appears to be a very dedicated individual that would probably be very appreciative of your efforts to share some of his historical background in order to honor his contributions. And with your information as to the possible connection of a photo that he took of your father in law as a child makes it even more intriguing. Thank you for sharing the trip down Memory Lane. Another great video, Sandy. I'm in danger of living vicariously through your videos but luckily I enjoy cycling too much to not "get out there!" I live a few miles from the Pendon Museum and know the area reasonably well. When you're next visiting, as you like panoramic views, you need to climb the Wittenham Clumps. Round Hill, the higher of the two hills, has spectacular views over Little Wittenham, Day's Lock and Dorchester-on-Thames and for miles beyond. The other hill, Castle Hill, is the site of an Iron Age hill fort. A 110km round trip for you but I think you'd enjoy it and it'd give you more subject material for your new 360 camera!

@WiltshireMan
@WiltshireMan Ай бұрын
I can tell from your comment Fred that you haven't used a 360 camera before. The selfie stick has to be in line with the body of the camera, that way when the software stitches the two images (from each lens) it will remove the seflie stick also making it invisible.. I can easily get a full body shop simply by lowering the camera, I'll do it when I next use the camera

However today this video was on KZbin- kzbin.info/www/bejne/oXXcpouVi5ydY8k and it shows protective domes to help prevent damage. As the Insta 360 is too costly I am looking at an Osmo Active 4 with a BJI Mic 2 that also may interest you kzbin.info/www/bejne/eJrKp4Schr-emq8 as the combination is ideal for a cyclist etc. At 81 I like your comment that you are never too old!!!! The 360 isn't as good as your normal camera in my opinion. Colours aren't as deep and the round view takes away from the overall picture quality i think. Be good maybe for certain shots to edit in with the other if u wanted to carry the two.
