@PecheurAnglaisАй бұрын
Wrong for us, but not for the industry. Remember, it is a show mainly funded by the motorcycle industry at the end of their season, when revenues are falling. New models are shown, people place orders for new bikes, buy new gear, etc. etc. They are unlikely to put it on in the spring or summer, when sales are good anyway. It is the same with the boat industry, the caravan industry, the holiday industry, all the outdoor product businesses.

About automatic gear shift, I recently bought a Honda NC 750XD (DCT) as a daily workhorse standing next to my Moto Guzzi V85TT, I choose the dct version for the practicality and easy daily riding commuting, and just to make sure it was quite different from my bike chosen buy my heart the Moto Guzzi. Now after half a year I must admit I am quite surprised, I absolutely love the bloody thing and I'm now doing 90% of my riding on the NC. It seems somehow I have found back some of the enjoyment from when I was starting riding motorcycles, it seems like as the bikes have grown bigger through the years I have lost some of the easiness and enjoyment of riding a bike. Automatic gear shifts have in some magic way brought that back to me, I'm quite surprised?
@SuperchargedLlamaАй бұрын
I've also got a NC750X DCT, I enjoy it, sport 2 seems to be the sweet spot for me. I've got a dodgy left knee that gets really aggrevated by the action of manual shifting, sothsiuallows me to ride in relative comfort (I don't actually like the NC that much, terrible wind buffering for me), but the box is brilliant. I had a Africa Twin 2016 DCT at one point, like that but it was really top heavy, something they addressed with the 2018 revision, but it had a weird tendancy to shift mid corner regardless of the gearbox setting - the NC never seems to do this, even without the IMU they use now - really pleased they have finally updated the NT1100 with that!
@mikaellundsrensen6108Ай бұрын
@@SuperchargedLlamaI have a givi windscreen + a small vind deflect on top of that, works perfectly for me (I am 1,90) 👍 And yes also had the 2016 African Twin DCT , didn't like it... Although it is the prettiest one among them , the new versions looks very interesting but are too expensive for me.

I don't know about automatic transmission on a bike, I can only say about my car experience. I always said I'd never go away from a stick shift,but when I got shot of Peugeot 406, I went for a BMW X5 which only has auto trans far as I know,mine is 20yrs old. It makes driving so relaxed,just stick it in drive & stomp on the loud pedal. I had found lifting the clutch pedal multiple times in traffic tiresome as I have a damaged left knee. I remember when the BMW Nivomat shocks came out. I recall only one issue, and it was a minor one: After the bike sat for a while, at the start of the next ride the shocks were not at the usual ride height, and you had to ride a bit until they had moved up and down enough for the internal self-adjusting apparatus to reestablish position. This apparently not significant issue though, as the Nivomat-equipped RT riders I knew at the time liked theirs.

Although I'm a self-confessed Honda fan boy with a lot of time on my hands, (retired) I spend a fair bit of time browsing around dealerships. The one thing with Chinese bikes is I just don't like the look of them, CF Moto are all weird angles acres of plastic, also I have to say some people's idea of good build quality is different to mine, with my (retired) engineering head on, some parts just don't look right. RE have it right in that the price point is spot on, and they look like proper motorbikes which appeals to our ageing biker population, I have plenty of friends who have gone with RE and are very happy, not my thing though. I last went to Motorcycle Live in 2019 and was pretty underwhelmed by it all. If 44 teeth suddenly turned up I definitely wouldn't go! The up coming tour looks great and look forward to watching. Keep up the good work 👍

I am couple of decades older than you, and I remember the time when nobody wanted to ride Japanese bikes because they were "Inferior POS bikes built by the enemy we had just vanquished. What can they possibly offer us?" Well, it turns out they offered more choices and superior quality at affordable prices. And now the Chinese have the tech and manufacturing skills to put most of the rest of the world to shame. I predict you will see at least a dozen manufacturers making fantastic motorcycles (and cars) better for less than the European brands. And, history tells us that they will be made better, be more reliable! (yes I have owned 12 Italian bikes, I know), and offer more models, accessories, and even colours. If you haven't been to Thailand, or Vietnam, or China lately, you have no idea of how fast and how far they have advanced in the past couple of decades. The European manufacturers will only survive as long as the countries they are built in, support those brands financially. Look at KTM now on the verge of bankruptcy. Will Aprillia or Ducati also fall?

As for Ducati, the Porsche Holding is scaling back, especially since VW is crumpling (at least in Germoney).

KTM are nowhere near financial trouble. They sold over 280,000 bikes last year. They’ve had a worse year than normal this year and have made some staff redundant, probably shifting more manufacture east as is every European bike brand. I don’t imagine Bajaj, who own 49.9% of KTM, would allow that to happen either.

I think the key difference there is that the Japanese bikes came with a level of reliability that primarily the English brands couldn’t match at that time. BMW still survived, as it were. The Chinese brands of today deliver a slightly better value, it’s true. But the reliability is still on the side of the Japanese bikes and performance/flash/spec sheet is on the side of the European brands. Until that changes (and it might) the Chinese brands will at best get a niche in a crowded market.

Where to start ! It seems to me that simpler, more affordable bikes are selling well, I'm sure there's a link there ! One of the pleasures of riding is using a slick shifting gearbox, you decide when you want to change, you can lazily short shift or hold a gear for a rapid overtake, with quick shifter/auto blippers it's even easier. For commuters and tourers auto modes seem a great idea, otherwise it removes one of the pleasures. Automatic braking might be a good idea if you ride a bike like a car, with no filtering, not getting yourself onto clear road etc - are car designers developing these ideas ?! Looking forward to your Goldwing tour 👍🏻

@@TheMissendenFlyer that's another good option. They should consult bikers and ask what they want from the show. At the moment, I can wait and visit local dealers to see the specific bikes I want to look at. The main thing they need to look at is the pricing of everything.
@petersimpson4030Ай бұрын
Regarding motorcycle live, I agree that it needs a refresh. The other issue is some of the bike manufacturers have started voting with their feet. Moto Guzzi and Harley were two who didn’t show last year. The setting out of the stands is also poor with long walks between things that should be together, e.g similar manufacturing stands so you can compare. As far as the biased towards bike racing guests and speakers it is a difficult one as you can’t please everyone but I agree a couple of you tubers is a good idea

But what was the resale on a yamaha R125's. Even after 5 years or even 10 years in good condition they are not a huge amount less than new. At worst it's £2k or less over 5-7 years.

Andy can I give you some advice regarding shoulder rehab. Once healed up, buy a pull up bar and hang from it each morning for as long as you can. I also bought a Rangemaster (Amazon) shoulder stretching device. I suffered for years with a dodgy left shoulder. Doctors never advised me to rehab properly and then I listened to a specialist. I now have no pain at all, hanging is so important for shoulder mobility. It's a complicated floating joint and I hope your surgery goes well and you give my advice a shot.

I bought a CF Moto 4 wheeler and was mostly impressed. Fit, finish and layout was pretty darn good. But, the transmission function was not up to par and I traded it for a Yamaha. The CF Moto adventure bikes have my attention because of the value. Mainline brands pricing has pushed beyond my price pain tolerance. However, I have held back due to a concern about getting repairs done if I tour outside of my locality. That is my primary concern. Best of luck on the upcoming surgery. Hope this is the last.

Nice video as usual Andy. Like the vast majority of people, I think Triumph have comprehensively dropped the ball with the new 1200 Speed Twins. Making the RS more cramped and less comfortable is a big no no. The fitting of the 660 Trident's budget dash is a colossal boob. It is one of the main reason's we buy these retro's. I believe they have replaced the metal mudguard's on the base model with cheap plastic one's. The brakes get downgraded as well and yet they are charging more. The RS is now well over priced. I really do not know what Triumph are thinking. Clearly the marketing/design department's need a good kick up the backside for these glaring mistakes. If you want a new Speed Twin get the current model [It looks quite nice in the stealth red/black option] and simply fit a decent set of after market new rear shocks and bingo, you will have basically the same bike as the 2025 model but with the good bit's retained.

The issues I see at the moment about Chinese bikes are dealer availability, spares availability, reliability and support. If these are overcome then they will gain traction in the market. Yes, resale values are terrible, but they are currently for Royal Enfields, so it seems cheap in and cheap out is one of the ‘prices’ we will pay 🤷🏻♀️

One safety thing I think should be on every bike is small indicators lights on handle bars to show you they are on. To many time I have left my indicator on due to lack of knowing they are still on. I have also seen many other bikes with their indicators still on after turning. What’s your thought on a small LED each side of the handle bars flashing letting you know they are on. Many times the indicator light on screen can be missed if you watching the road and that’s the issue you need to watching the road not the LCD screen. As we all know it is very dangerous to any biker been hit side on because you still have your indicator still on when a car pulls out as they think you are turning, we stick the finger up to then then realise our indicator is still on.🏍️💺🔆🔆.
@903lewАй бұрын
I’d say that adding that little line of code that makes indicators self-cancelling should be standard on bikes. With IMU’s becoming more or less standard on everything bigger than 700cc I see this in the near future.
@senna4281Ай бұрын
@@903lew I have a car with self cancelling indicators and some times they don’t cancel, but I see your point if you set your indicators to cancel after a number of flashes that would help as long as it doesn’t cancel before you have turned. So I would say it’s still a good idea to easily see a small LCD light on handlebars or mirror at eye level as well would be good

Personally, I think that your first gen Speed Twin is the only one that fully makes sense as it’s Triumph sporty classic/retro. There are better and cheaper naked bikes for sale if you move away from the retro bikes. As for bike sales down 6% I’m not surprised one year of non stop rain might not affect sales too much but two years of no spring at all and endless rain will hurt sales.

I owned a Chinese bike for a year. I found a lot of cheap components in areas like batteries, chains, oil filters, etc., but the biggest issue was the quality of the dealers. I would not buy another one. Automatic gearboxes are great around town, and I see the merit of them on motorcycles, but not for spirited riding!. I don’t like the new Speed Twin RS specification. I was thinking of buying one, but not now. I want to praise the Wilbers suspension. It transformed the ride and handling on my Harley touring bike. Very easy to use and maintenance free.

For one reason or another, I don't like the new Trident 1200, I mean the Speed Twin 1200 (19:25). Triumph seem to have forgotten that it's a bike that's supposed to draw its inspiration from the Triumph Bonneville's of old? So, my bike news for September 2024, I've joined the crew, and I've just bought a new Stealth Edition Triumph Speed Twin 1200, in the limited sapphire red/silver red colourway, with a black quilted seat, heated grips, and the tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS). I found out that Triumph had reduced the price of the MY24 models by £2,000, so I'm picking my bike up next week, and I can't wait. The Speed Twin 1200 has almost twice the torque of my current bike, so that should be fun! With the cash I've saved, I might upgrade the shocks in the future. I went the whole hog, and, yes, I even bought the t-shirt! Then, in my new bike madness, I went full on Brando and splashed out on a very nice Triumph Braddan Sport leather jacket as well, because, just by coincidence, it matched the bike and it was also in a sale. So, I'm sorted, and just in time for a UK winter, what perfect timing! It'll be interesting to see your review of the 2025 Speed Twin. No doubt it'll be a very good bike, but looks-wise, I think Triumph have ruined it with this iteration in my opinion. 👍

Thanks for the show, as great as ever 🙏🏼. To me gear shifting is part of the sensation, so no demand for automatics here. All in all I'm a little bit overwhelmed by all these electronics they install into the bikes nowadays. I welcome the safety features like ABS and TC of course, but all that riding modes, phone integration, radar stuff or that absolutely useless "keyless" thing which isn't keyless at all just drives the prices up and delivers no additional value imo. I'm probably too old for that sh*t. 😂😂
