When you started waxing poetic about the steel fork, it was very reminiscent of Antiques Roadshow, where Joe was just learning and taking in all the knowledge about how well suited his bike was. 😊

Joe seems great. If I was still on the West Coast, I would come down and ride with Joe. After my crash, I had a balance issue from the TBI, ditched the race bike with the 23s, bought a gravel bike, and ride 40s now, and life is grand. He will love the wider tires. ❤

Came over on Reginald Scott's recommendation. Great exchange, hooked on the first look. I'm 70 and recently moved from 28 to 35mm; and it made a world of difference. Joe's bike looks beautiful and hope he'll be able to enjoy it for many more years.

What a great story, thanks for sharing! I have Schwalbe Marathon tires on my Double Croos, 700 x32's. They are a great tire, roll well and have lots of puncture protection as well. Thank You for sharing his story and spending quality time with him and us!!

Joe seems a great guy and inspirational he's still on the bike at 72 after his 'episode'. Serious questions would 28s (or wider) be OK on the fairly narrow Open Pros?

On my old cross bike I have 35mm city tyres, I think I can get a 40mm slick in there or a 37mm with big nobles on it. Not bad for a “rim brake bike.” 😁 Got to disagree on the “big tyres aren’t slower…” But for Joe I don’t think it matters as much as comfort and ride quality. 🙂❤️

I also have 25mm hard shell tyres on my daily ride steel bike… but like you say, “top of the line for puncture resistance.” And yes they do seem to last forever. I also put them on the wife’s bike because she has a bad habit of not listening to me, then riding through all the glass and junk on the road she can possibly find. 😂 It’s also true the ride quality sucks, but they have good grip and as a training tyre your can’t get better. Because they are SLOOOW… 😆

Wider tiers are steering worser and catch a flat far more frequently due to lower pressure.
