Valving is entirely velocity dependent (unless theres some valving preload trickery going on), not fork position dependent. "Getting down into the stiffer part of the valving" doesn't really make much sense. What actually was happening was the air spring was initially too soft, allowing the fork to dive deep into the stroke easier and giving it a feel that its stiffer/harsher because, like any other spring, it gets stiffer the more its compressed. By adding air pressure, its stiffening up the spring, which allows the fork to hold up better and stay higher in the stroke under braking. However, unlike a steel coil, an air spring ramps up in force progressively as its compressed (lets disregard the air volume in the outer chamber for the moment). Coil spring is typically linear unless its a progressive spring. So the increase in air pressure is really felt beyond like the first 2 inches of the stroke. I'm running 170psi (11.7bar) on my AER48 and it feels great (Im a 190lbs B rider). This fork likes higher pressure with coupled valving. Super important to match the valving to the spring rate. It seems the key is high air pressure with a midvalve compression stack that has a good amount of float to allow the fork to move somewhat freely under low velocity conditions (to get rid of the stiction feel). 0.3mm for faster guys and up to 1.0mm for offroad riding or slower riders.

WOW...Very knowledgeable for a "B" rider. Suspension is one of the hardest things to understand, very impressive.

How come nobody has said anything about the air box venting missing on the side panels ? No vent slots this year ?
@vitalmx4 жыл бұрын
The vented air box cover still comes with the bike when you buy it and we did test it on the FC 350, which the video is on its way.

I want to know how the suspension compares to the stock 2020 KTM 450. I replaced it with conevalves and an mxtech nationalshock because the stock stuff was so garbage.
