Bike test: PIAGGIO MP3 LT

It's amazing that it has taken this long for someone to think of it...The Piaggio MP3 LT is a scooter that you can ride with just a normal (car) driving license. How? Why? You might well ask...well, it's a three-wheeled scooter.

I've had mine (250) for more than 3.5 years now. I'm still loving it. Great for the daily commute and easy on the gas, it only costs me about $10 to fill each week vs. $40 to fill my car for the same amount of driving.

I ride a 125 scooter and a 650 bike. Your video is the first in which I have heard that effort is required for steeering, and that it is not the same as cornering on a bike - besides the obvious fact that you'll not fall off this if you lose grip on a wet bend. Thanks for the heads-up. Might like to try one of these but here in Japan they are few and far between and sold at a premium price, no surpise.

What a great bike. I would like to buy one of these, it's probablly more stable that a normal bike. more unique and offers a nice handling.

The small lamps are the parkers, they come on when the key is turned to the on position. With the current economic prices of the gear, its too expensive to import the mod chips and the exhausts to australia, the muffler alone will cost around $1300 AUD. The tilting frame and top box for the MP3 in australia is currently around the $900 mark. The frame tilts so you can still access the scooters trunk

I'm in the states. Not in europe or Australia. I did NOT know anything about the location the bike until someone above posted it. I only know of the ones locally in the states that I've seen that NOT have this feature enabled.

You didn't pay attention to the video: these are the new Piaggio MP3 LLLLLLTTTTTTT wich came with 250cc and 400cc versions. Their front axis it's wider than the previous versions witch, in legal terms, allows people to drive them with a car driving licence (at least in most Europe), as the voice over the video explains.

people need to educate themselves,never compare,this is the future that is in a class of it self.these 3 and 4 wheeled tilters wrapped in a streamlined body can double the mileage.We should embrace the technology as much as we enjoy 2 wheeled motorcycles.it is much safer,period.I for one hope they take it to the next level,streamlining.Its a winner,once the economy picks up it should really take off.

not sure about the comments about the 125 not being able to be used out of urban environments. I've got a 2011 125ie, whilst not amazingly powerful I can easily cruise along at 60 and still have like to overtake. I can do 70 with no problems. I recently drove from Manchester to London using the A roads and it was simply superb.

Dont know, i have the Aussie MP3 250, mines the same, the MP3 500/Gilera Fuoco has low beam and high beam on both sides.. I dont know what theyre talking about saying the 250 isnt powerful enough, im 127 kilo and it sits on 135 quite nicely

hey mate.i was looking in to getting a mp3 ether the 400 or the 500.but my problem is that iam short,besides reversing,can i keep my feet up all the time while I rideit,or would I need to put them down when I stop?

Help please ! Can i press and hold the shock lock button into lock position before i come on a full stop rather than clicking it once after the light comes on ?

You have to be travelling at less than 5km/h (or the equivalent in miles) to activate the locking mechanism. As you approach the lights and are slowed to that speed you can do it but be careful because the wheel will lock in whatever position you are in at that moment. By this I mean if you are leaning one way or the other the wheel will lock and that may be a bit disconcerting. It is better to be topped first.

No not for me. I have a Burgman 400 2009 ABS and if I compare with the video the Burgman let you extend your legs or put them in other position. I can't imagine myself riding the MP3 like you are sitting in a chair for 350Km. It is a nice scoot that MP3 with a lot of possibility but the man in that video his legs is 90 degrees’ and the pedal at the floor... It is out now.

I own an Mp3 500. Two things: 1. YOU CAN'T DRIVE THIS ON A CAR LICENSE IN THE UNITED STATES! YOU HAVE TO HAVE A MOTORCYCLE LICENSE!!! 2. If you've never rode one, then no amount of explaining will tell you why this is about 500000 times better than a car...quicker, better handling, looks better, MUCH better mpg, and WAAAAY MORE FUN THAN ANYTHING!! So if you can't understand riding something that gives you the same feeling as a 100K $ sportscar for around 8K$, then nothing will make it clear.

dmmcmah1 --why don't you go to the modern vespa formum and read on the mp3 comments. . why wouldn't it ride like a motorcycle if the front wheels articulate? What does i ride like then? a trike? don't think so. Wouldn't want someone to think they can hopp up on one and get a false since of security that it rides like a three wheeler. AND YES no license in CA. Maybe stupid but currently that's the law. Again go to the forum and read what other MP3 riders say. And anyone else reading this should.

For those thinking of buying this bike beware. It has become obvious over time that there is a design flaw that makes the steering behave in a dangerous manner. The fault lies in the lower steering bearings. Piaggio know of the fault but refuse to offer a solution citing it as normal wear and tear.. It is an expensive job to fix and involves dismantling the front end which is far from easy. It has been a problem in bikes as young as one year old. Google "Piaggio steering notch" and you will be swamped with examples of the full horror of the problem.

mikerjuk This is an identified design problem, one well known within their own dealership. As it takes out the steering i would suggest a pretty big one. The newer models are ok, but there are more than a few with the old steering, and EVERYONE OF THEM will suddenly develop steering problems.,
