You're not a newbie by any stretch: you've biked across another hemisphere into a gigantic mountain range on a whim and would have gone even further if not for COVID, and now you're biking through two different hemispheres and two continents. Somehow, you look fresh as a daisy in the morning and apparently carry the fire of a Spanish Dragon. In other words, don't ever minimize what you know or who you are. You got The Goods, Gyrl. You're Awesome. Saludos, G

Hey Carla its Rey! I met you in the Redwoods in California at the Standish Hickey Campground. You had just come out of the pacific northwest with brutal wet weather and on top of that your sleeping pad wasn't holding air but you were still so positive and inspiring. You didn't tell me you're youtube star! Such a great storyteller with amazing videography skills! I'll be following in your direction in the coming weeks and will be headed south into Baja and into Latin America. Wishing you well!!!

Thanks for sharing, I always find it i interesting what stuff other people bring, I learn something every time. I also have that Naturehike Cloud Up 2, it is such a great tent. Thanks also for making that gear list, I know you must have put a lot of work in it, just like making this video, so just want you to know it is very much appreciated, cheers from Amsterdam.

The velcro on the break lever is genius, you can also get small zip tie locks that you can thread through your disc and around your fork, they have a little combination lock system on them.
@carlagoessouth
@carlagoessouth Жыл бұрын
Right? I use it daily, even if it’s to keep my bight more stable when putting the panniers on it! Those zip tie locks sound great, I googled them and will try to find them at some point (not easy in South America haha)

It's amazing how different people's setups are. The right bike and gear are the ones you have. I like your trekking pole idea I'm gonna look for one. The velcro on the brake is a good one too. I always put my helmet strap through the spokes of my back tire. It works really well I forget to take it out before trying to move my bike 50% of the time

Thanks Simon!!! I find having so little (no space in the bike for more) quite freeing! I don’t lose things as often as I did back home, I never have to worry about what I’ll wear (it’s t-shirt one or t-shirt two 😂)… only good things! Big hugs from Perú.

I love watching videos like this, I get a lot of inspiration from them and I just like to see how everyone does it a bit differently. But I do understand they are a bit cringy to make 😆 (the two with the velcro on the brake is a good one) Save journeys and have fun!

Hi Carla, Thanks for sharing your set up. It is always interesting to see what others are doing and the tricks they have figured out. One think I do is make sure my first aid kit is very easy to access, more easy in fact than anything else on my bike. I do this because I may find it difficult to access it if I am injured, I need it quickly to help someone else or I might need to explain to someone else how to get it out for me. I suffer from arthritis in my figures and as a result I find it very difficult to fix a puncture, so much so that I was often left sitting on the road side waiting for some kind soul to come along and help me. This year I discovered the TyreGlider and for me it is a game changer. The difference between it and tyre levers is that you stand over the wheel and use the strength of you shoulder and arm to change the tyre not your fingers. I can now put on or take off a tyre in about 10 seconds. And that means I can now go to more remote places without fear of having to deal with a puncture. This might help someone else that has difficulty with tyres - but it does need a bit of practice. Take care until next time.
@carlagoessouth

Wow! Those 2 tips are great. I thought I was making a video to help people and I am actually receiving so much advice, that’s so cool, thank you! I just looked up TyreGlider and it really looks like a game changer! If I have some days off the bike somewhere I’ll try to get some online for sure! Thanks again🙌🏽🙌🏽

I've only been on bike tours in Europe for holidays, but great seeing what others bring on their trip. I love the tip for the velcro on the break, very ingenious! Also interesting how it was so cringe for you to film this. It absolutely isn't cringe to watch! Was just wondering how the Patagonia jacket is holding up for you. I have the same one in blue and like it, although I think it needs to be washed to reactivate the waterproof layer.
@carlagoessouth
@carlagoessouth 11 ай бұрын
The jacket is still holding up!! I do wash it regularly enough (I think) - only a few times where the rain wouldn’t stop for hours have I felt some parts were maybe letting some water in.. I wouldn’t change it though!

@@carlagoessouth Thank you so much! I'm equal parts excited and terrified. I haven't been on a proper adventure in a while(from my perspective anywho). Dream=cycle the world....however...having never rode a bicycle more than 40miles...step one is make it from northern Minnesota to St. Louis, MO. If all goes well I'll head west to the coast...if all goes well there I'll head south in Mexico.

So nice of you to show what you are bringing and so nicely done with pictures and gearlist and everything! Many thumbs up👍👍👍👍. Can I ask how do you think it works with your neoprene shoe covers when it is raining and cold.Do they keep your feet dry. I have had problems with wet shoes and then trying to dry them in cold weather. Do you have any advice? Thanks for your videos, they are like bright lights. Safe cycling!

Water proof socks are the answer
@carlagoessouth
@carlagoessouth Жыл бұрын
I haven’t used them much but when I did (mostly in Canada and Washington) they weren’t very useful.. after hours under the rain, my feet were completely soaked. Even if it’s super cold, I put on my crocks (sometimes with thick socks) when I see the rain will last for hours. At least when I reach camp I can put on dry shoes then. I also use plastic bags sometimes - outside and inside the shoe… gotta try it all 😂 Those waterproof socks sound great! Not sure if I’ll find them here in South America though 🤔
