Hello Laura from French Switzerland! I am passionate about bicycles, especially old ones. I recently discovered your chain and when I saw the name of your bike 'Disk...' I couldn't help but laugh because the worst thing on modern bikes is the disc brakes which are anti-mechanical. How many accidents and serious falls have occurred due to unintentional wheel locks? I go downhill with my loaded and heavy travel bikes, I have rim brakes with very inexpensive BBB Tristop pads. I have never had a problem with reliability! I can repair them or even change the entire system anywhere. In short with my good old bikes: no spokes that break, no rims that crack, no crankset that breaks, no noise... Re-cently, I was able to build a steel frame with rim brakes and transmission by belt = a must^^ Impossible to return to the chain and the lifespan is at least 5x greater! There you go, you will do your experiments and one day, perhaps you will be happy to ride a good old bike without worry and without wasting mon-ey on these modern bikes which are structurally obsolescent and which require very expensive maintenance. Good luck and congratulations for the quality of your reports!

What an excellent, true to life and down to earth video showing the not so fun side of cycle touring. I’d say that you passed the test with flying colours! 👍 I’m so pleased that you got your bike fixed as I know very well just how down that a broken bike can make you. Wishing you all the best Carla 🙏🤞👍, and looking forward to seeing you pedal forward into the fun zone again 👍😁🚴‍♂️

This was an incredible episode. Thank you for your transparency and just being raw. Drinking the water from the can of vegetables was brilliant!! I don't know but being stranded at the Sea of Cortez with a Tecate isn't so bad..🤣 Carry extra water and if you can, try to travel as far as you are able during the earliest part of the day to avoid heat exhaustion/stroke. Looking forward to the next vid. Take care.

💪🏼🙏☺️ Had a similar adventure almost 2 yrs ago… decided to cycle 2hrs out of town to camp 🏕 and just kept going! Felt the pull, timing was right, had bare minimum yet all I needed. After a month and 1/2 of camping most nights, I found a new city to call home. The people I met along the way were incredible and felt so synchronized! Amazing how far we can go when trust the pull & process! Stay open & curious and the next step appears… …

Well done you. When Jim Lovell commander of Apollo 13 was asked if he worried after they had the blow out. He said you should only worry about the things you can change. It is something I have tried to do all my life. When I find myself worrying about something, I ask myself if this is something I can change? If not then I try to put it out of my mind.

This must have sucked even more than my feverishness/lack of water mishap in Baja the past few days because you did it in the heat of summer. Yikes! I know this is long behind you but I sincerely feel for you. I declined a ride 16km from town because I had to finish what I started, and surfers gave me some water. I had a harder time Cataviña to Santa Rosaliíta than I did on the Ausangate Traverse in Peru earlier this spring. (By the way, its freaking incredible. Do it.) Chew the leaves and don't forget llipta. The sweet black soft one is the best one.

The baja divide is no joke!!! It kind of makes me happy I did it right at the beginning of my trip so that everything becomes a bit easier after that… glad you were able to finish what you started! I am almost as nervous about starting the Peru Divide soon as I was about the Baja Divide.. but knowing I managed to “do it” then, I’m sure it will be the same this time. Thanks for the tips, will definitely follow your advice!

The magnet is designed to hold the pad in place under extreme pressure and the heat generated by the friction which can reach very high levels I doubt super glue would survive both.

Hahaha it was “garbanzos” chickpeas in Spanish. Similarly to the Föhn winds, I didn’t know about Garmonbozia. A little research tells me “Garmonbozia was a substance that resembled, or indeed was, creamed corn. The term "garmonbozia" was synonymous with "pain and sorrow." It was a source of sustenance for certain spirits, including the arm” so quite similar hahaha I’ll have to put Twin Peaks in my to watch list!
