Bike Wheel Problems? Try Replacing your Hub!

Michael from Ivanhoe Cycles presents a tutorial on how to replace the Freehub of a Bicycle. Often we get people come into our store that have been told they need to replace their whole wheel, when actually the problem is simply in the hub. Knowing when this is the case, and then being able to do something about it yourself will save you a lot of time and money.
We hope you find this video helpful and feel free to send us a message with any video requests or suggestions!
Thanks for watching!

I'm looking to replace the entire hub, not just the freehub. Please rename your video. It's so frustrating to watch numerous videos all with the same incorrect title. Your not he only ones. Beside that, very good video and clear instructions. I'll come back if it becomes useful to me. Keep up the good content, just be more specific in the wording for everyone's sake.

I thought the hub and free hub were one piece, so I've learnt something, thanks.

In lockdown and my friend lent me his Volt. The only thing was my entry-level road bike was not compatible. Whilst I had my bike wheel off I thought I'd give it a little clean - MISTAKE! In short, thanks! This vid helped me get the back wheel back in its rightful place

That was a great video. Thanks. If I am ever in Melbourne I will visit but unfortunately, I am 10,533 miles away. :-) (in the UK). I liked the practical advice ("just do it up tight"). It encourages people to get interested in fixing their bikes (which can only be good for cycling).

9:04 the wheel clearly rocked a bit backwards. But you didn't adjust it or was that ok?

Had a vaguely similar experience myself a few years ago. My bike was making funny noises which I thought came from the bottom bracket. Emailed a local cycle shop who quoted me £50 for a new bb (you can get them for about £10 in the UK) so decided they could get stuffed. Visited a bike co-op who sourced the problem in a matter of minutes- loose bolts on the panniers. The bike co-op is now my first port of call.

Excellent content and information explained well. Good for seasoned mechanics, not a novice. And I agree the camera should have been way closer to show the activity and the parts. I've subscribe. Thank you.

Nice info. I"m having issues finding a hub or rear axle for a '93 Rincon Mountain bike. Would you happen to know what size axle these use ? The bearings were missing and the axle bumps when you turn it when it is tightened down. I'd like to find an axle with bearings and such that will fit it. It is 7 inches long.

This would be a far better video if the camera wasn't 700 feet from the hub. You can't see the parts when they are removed, nor the precise positioning of the tools when they are used. Get a nice, bright light, position it near the action site, zoom in the camera and it'll be a lot more helpful.

Good luck with removing the lockring without the right tool. What do you use instead of cone spanners? You're no Sheldon Brown so get over yourself.
