Yes. Finally some footage of your big Around the World Adventure. Curious how you have been liking or disliking the new Gates/Pinon Setup? Since you did a lot with the other before and this is new to you and on a big adventure.
@OmniTierra2 жыл бұрын
The @pinion @gatescarbondrive system is pretty stellar. I had seen it on several bikes in the past and was always curious about it. But honestly I don’t ever wanna go back when doing this type of riding. It would be terrific on a full suspension bike as well since all the mass is central and the rear wheel lightens up dramatically with the system. Really the only drawback is that it needs such a little amount of maintenance that I have to actually remember to take a thorough look over my bike. With a chain and derailer system I had to lubricate my bike several times a day often the replacement cost for parts was high. If you’re thinking about it my recommendation would be to test drive one if you can but if not I would go for it.

Excellent video once again John, I just love watching you and Mira together😁I'm glad you found those old rail paths in the city, nothing worse than city traffic! I'm very lucky as I only have to travel about 10 minutes and I'm on lovely quiet country roads, they are certainly improving the cycling paths here in Scotland but I prefer the open roads to get a bit of speed up😉 Too many dog walkers on the paths slowing me down, no offence to you and Mira🤣I can't wait for the next episode, stay safe John and keep doing what you are doing with adorable Mira👌
@OmniTierra2 жыл бұрын
I’m not sure if he’s responsible for the entire UK or just England but Chris Boardman, former Olympian, is now heading up a very well financed cycle infrastructure program. Yeah mixing the modes of traffic can be a challenge. In Spain most people walk on multi use paths the opposite of what they do in North America. So they’re always facing towards the cyclists or runners and can stay out of the way. That way everyone’s happy and safe
@rabh67462 жыл бұрын

Gave me goosebumps to see you and Mira in the state of Oaxaca where my father is from and I have a lot of family there, you shoot excellent video as well. I'm thinking about going there in December and doing a trip from Oaxaca to Puerto escondido and maybe some other trips around Oaxaca too, do you think a air fork is too much for their roads or is a rigid carbon fork good enough? I have the option to run either on my 29er.
@OmniTierra2 жыл бұрын
Hey DD. I would probably run whatever currently on your bike. Because there’s lots of great single track to the mountains and lots of dirt roads but you can get by with a totally rigid bike, but you would also enjoy the comfort and and increased handling on the dissents with her suspension fork. It’ll all work.

These Gates belt drive needs to be enclosed with a sturdy chain guard. Especially since there isn't external gear to deal with it shouldn't be too difficult to do. A rugged plastic enclosure that prevents the tire to project all this dust and small gravel onto it..... Let's face it, the tire being very close by, lifts all kinds of stuff that end up between the belt and the aluminum sprockets.....
