Thanks for sharing, John. You have inspired me over the last 2 years to take my dog along on family bike rides. He rides a couple hundred miles a year, although he is only 20lbs, I use a topeak basket that is easy to remove as needed and still have room for panniers below. I have tried a burley dog trailer with my larger dog which works ok but is much harder to manage. Great content and love seeing and hearing your stories!

Happy you’re getting some value of this Matt. Yeah, the burly dog trailer from what I recall has two wheels. So I’m not surprised it was tough to manage.

Hi John I’m a big fan of Mira, I have a friend that had his dog running in a field and when it came back the paw was sliced and the artery was bleeding 🩸 out very badly, maybe cut by broken glass or a sharp can ,I’m just letting you know what could happen , you should carry a paste made to plug the bleeding and a pawflex medimitt as a emergency bandage for dog paws , you can buy this from chewy or another medic pack for dogs store, you could be way out there and need this to save Mira’s life and give you time to get to an emergency vet, just giving you something that has happened and to be prepared for an emergency, you two are so cool and I’m just trying to help

I do carry some extra first aid supplies for Mira as well as booties. One thing to keep in mind is that if a dog does slice its paw, it bleeds more than you would imagine for such a small cut. It’s a little bit like when a person gets cut on the scalp. To put you at ease I will let you know that Mira’s safety and health are my top concerns while travelling

@@OmniTierra i know you love Mira I was just letting you know what happened to my friends dog , when it’s paw got slashed it almost bleed to death, we wrapped it and rushed it to a hospital close by, 90 % of people don’t tell other people things that happened to them to other people to watch out for , all I saying is to carry a patch of a wax or paste that is made to stop the bleeding in a dog’s paw and then wrap it , you guys are way out in the middle of nowhere and this could save Mira’s life , you don’t have to put me at ease or let me know that Mira’s is your top concern, I have always tried to learn from what happens to other people in life and all I’m saying is what happened to us, I don’t have to imagine from a small cut it actually happened and lived it , the booties are good but they will not stop bleeding, just letting you know something to look into not telling you that you are not concerned about Mira’s safety, keep the videos coming on UTUBE they are my top travel videos

I set up my sister's bike with a front rack and basket for her Border Terriers(about 7kgs).She has two but it can only take one at a time. It is odd to think a small dog weighs the same as a carbon race bike! Just curious with the rack/mtb combo why a cargo bike like a Big Dummy would not work. Would the weight be too far back? Or is the bike so long and feels slow?

I just purchased a heavy duty rectangular 19 x 14 x 8 milk crate that holds up to 6 gallons of milk which ='s 48lbs for my medium sized standard Dachshund mix female who now weighs at 28lbs. I watched a couple of other videos on how to attach a milk crate to a rear bicycle rack and one said to just use 18" velcro straps to attach the front (easy on and off) and heavy duty zip ties for the rear and then I purchased steel ring motorcyle cargo tie downs to attach to the bottom bolts of rear rack and then run bungee cords through and down under crate and them hook them to steel ring. I am still trying to figure out what to do for the sides of plastic crate such as what you did to yours for Mira. Have any other suggestions in how to pad the top edges that may be easier for a women to do?
@OmniTierra Жыл бұрын
Easier way to pad the edge of the basket than a pool noodle? I haven’t watch the video in quite some time, but I’m pretty sure that I mentioned that. All the women in my life are real badass and resourceful so I’m not totally sure what you mean🤔.
@StarEssences Жыл бұрын
@@OmniTierra I thought you being a guy and knowing that men overall are more mechanically, construction etc oriented than women, that you may have had a better idea or easier way to pad milk crate edges. I am going to follow your example through very cost effective means; Materials: Pipe insulation cut to size a grommet kit, and vinyl - cordura material, and nylon string. Total cost for everything...under $45.00. (Much better than paying $150.00+ simply for a pet trailer. Thanks for the inspiration of a easy set up to place larger sized pets on a bicycle...Happy riding :)

How is it with sleep? Does the dog sleep during riding the bike? I want to start with my dog but wonder if she will get enough sleep, because if we are on the road for 8-10 hours and she will be awake the whole time then that doesnt sound too healthy but not really sure. The information regarding how much sleep is needed vary from 12 to 20 hours per day. 12 seems doable when bikepacking, 20 not so much.
@OmniTierra Жыл бұрын
Mira is my fifth dog. I’ve only ever had border collies, and border collie mixes. So I have no experience with a dog sleeping 20 hours. If I had a dog that slept 20 hours in one day, I would call it “Log” 🤪

Do you have US/MEX trip content still to be released? Episode 4 was a long time ago. Further south of you, one side benefit of the US migrant issue is that the VEN's et al have beaten down a pretty good path through the D GAP. Are you hearing reports on the conditions? Have you given this any (fleeting) thought to try? I expect we will soon start seeing a few daredevils trying the southbound route, cameras in hand.
@OmniTierra2 жыл бұрын
We’re looking forward so, there likely won’t be any videos for the US at this point. We’ve ridden across the US five times now so I really wasn’t about to bother with a camera. I’m not a fan of jungles or swamps so I think will possibly paddle our way to South America. The Gap has been crossed before on foot by gringos.
