Hi, what a nice video and the trip is awesome. I was at age of 16 in 1987 in BC from Edmonton Alberta to Victoria. We stopped at the hells gate... Lots of years but very good memories. Greetings from Northern Germany, Kiel Jens

Your very welcome - glad you’re enjoying them. They are still a bit rough around the edges - like my beard... but hey, I’m learnIng a lot with each trip - especially during the editing phase. Hang in with me, and hopefully I’ll be getting better. :))

BC has such astonishing geological and bio-diversity it it truly amazing what we have within our border that sometimes we forget sometimes. COVID restrictions has many of us exploring our backyards a little more thorough and has given us time to reflect on what we have to show other travellers.

Wow , your area is simply amazing , you are blessed in many ways . Bicycle travel is so gratifying in so many ways . It enables you to take the time to really appreciate the country side and see so much you would not see from behind a windshield. I think with the added effort that bikepacking takes you appreciate it much more. Thanks for taking the time to share your amazing country side with us. It takes a lot to shoot video go back and get the camera , etc and repeat especially by your self . Plus editing footage . Love your content . Happy Holidays to you and yours

Thanks Ken for the kind words of application ~ it goes a long way. Documenting such solo trips does take quite a bit of time and effort in all stages of the trip. It drastically reduces point-to-point distances each day. Happy holidays! Lots planned for 2021!

Some wonderful wet beard action there ...lol...cheers with the beer. I don't partake anymore myself, but i have no problem others sampling a cold one. I love what i see of Canada. (Not keen on what I've seen of parts of Alberta though, oil - yuk!). My son lives in Banff. I have cousins in BC and Alaska, they went out in the 40's I think, war wives and such. The others went down under, sheep farming. A cycle-tour from St. John's in the East to Vancouver island sounds fun. Not long until I retire so I'm just checking out spots to see; No more homes and bills, just a bike, tent, hammocks and tarps etc and the open rounds, with an occasional air bnb.

Great videos. Too bad about all the smoke this year. We had to evac from a trip in September due to fires. How did you do the water color map animations? Those are awesome.
@SaltyBeard_Adventures
@SaltyBeard_Adventures 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching. :)) I was lucky that in Sept there wasn’t any huge fire activity in southern BC, but tit was still tinder dry (at least for the first half). - The maps - I work in DaVinci Resolve. Animation is handled by their module called Fusion, but this would apply to After Effects or FCPX Motion too: first I paint the map, photograph it and then animate all the rest. It takes about 1-2 hrs to paint, and 1 hr to adjust my animation and another hour to render the 15 sec clip. It took an entire weekend to figure out how to do the first one. I bit a little more off than I could chew, but I’m learning as I go.

Nice video; looks like a couple good days of riding. Did you find the smoke bothered your lungs? I'm planning a ride next summer from Vancouver up to Lilloette/ Kamloops/Princeton and back with some dirt road exploration up around Kamloops/Merritt. Maybe I'll ad Kelly lake to the itinerary.

Wow awesome trip. Found your channel a few weeks ago and have been catching up on all the videos! BC is such a beautiful place. Nice to see the road magic happen meeting up with Howie! Have you done a bike review vid? Haven’t seen one and am curious what you ride. Cheers!,

Thanks Dan - I’m glad you are enjoying the videos. The most you may find on my bike is in the “What’s in my Bags” and my “Beastly vs. Speedy” videos. But no, I have not done a bike review & maybe that’s something I should probably do. I ride a 2015 Kona Big Kahuna Racelite 29er Carbon. It’s just a XC race bike with some minor changes. Jones H-Bar, Brookes Saddle, and then my fork/rubber swap depending on what I’m doing. It’s not bikepacking specific geometry, but works. It is my only bike, so it has to do everything for me.

Thank you for the reply. That bike looks like a good do everything bike. I’ve seen those other videos you mentioned. The “what’s in my bags” is how I found your channel. I have an old hard tail mtb I thought about using for bikepacking around north central Washington. Thanks for the winter inspiration!!

Yeah, you don’t need a cool bike for bikepacking. Just something that fits properly and mechanically sound. Now to plan out summer trips :))

Absolutely gorgeous scenery! How do the those swept back handlebars feel on tougher terrain? I love all the real estate on them for mounting and hand positions.

Thanks JM. I love my Jones H-Bars. I have a fused wrist and these are the bomb. They’re fine in rough stuff, trails etc. As rough as you would get, riding fully loaded in the bush. Not like you would run them on an enduro bike. Mine are chopped down a bit as this is also my commuter bike.

ahoj, ta voda v řece má nádhernou barvu, je tak doopravdy, nebo je to klam kamery?
@SaltyBeard_Adventures
@SaltyBeard_Adventures 3 жыл бұрын
Žádné kameramany - to je skutečná barva vody. Jeden je čistý z hor. druhá (Fraser) je mohutná 1300 km dlouhá řeka, která protíná bahnité půdy a mění se v mléčně hnědou.

Can you cover somethin: I was recently on a 1k mile tour. Syracuse Niagara Pittsburgh to DC I dropped a screw from my cleat on my shoe. I could not figure out how to release the shoe. A shop found a way to pry with a screw driver compression spring but I don’t understand thx

I also have another trick up my sleeve that may help prevent the issue. Do you waterproof your cleat mount? 1) set your cleat as needed, tighten to spec. 2 remove, insole, & place large square of duct tape inside to hold mounting plate from moving much. 3 remove cleat 4 liberally squeeze silicone into the slots, very liberally. And a small ball size into all bolt holes. Gently press the small balls, into the treaded holes. 5 mount cleat, but leave it so bolts are loose, and your not squishing the silicone with the cleat. 6 let set for 24-48 hrs. 7 torque to spec 8 use utility blade to cut off any excess silicone bulging out - doesn’t have to awesome, just any bulk 8 ride in any weather. -- also prevents cleat bolts from backing out.
