The campsite close to that river was the best and I am sure your night sleep was pleasant listening to the water below. Imagine if you were in an area such as a desert no river just some trickle of warm water that would definitely exhaust you further. Canada is a paradise even with the heat wave. You just have to accept the conditions and go with the flow. Cheers.

You took a bad day and turned it around that was a great camp site I would take a dnf did not finish over a did not start any day Days that are smooth with no problems are harder to remember than the days with a few twist and turns You keep making these videos and I'll keep watching Thanks

I've learned from backcountry skiing that some days in the outdoors you have to redefine what success means. You got to ride the entire trail from Squamish to Whistler, swim in the river and camp in a completely secluded spot with no one around. And you didn't die of heat stroke! I would not count this as a failure.

Looks beautiful! Heat exhaustion is no joke! I nearly passed out a couple of times from overheating. Listen to your body... there's always tomorrow!

Hey, tip for cycling in hot weather..my sister and I cycled the KVR (BC Okanagan ) in 105 temps we found it was better to dump our water on our bodies than to drink it. Really cooled us off quickly.

I talked about cycling across Canada for ten years. Finally started, three days into it changed my mind and turned around and flew to Japan and rode around there instead. 😂 Nothing wrong with changing plans on the fly.

IMO I think you guys had too much gear for an overnight backpacking trip. Could have each shed a lot cause with the heat and that much rough terrain was too hard. Paneer bags on back probably caused too much drag. But you learn from failures and become more experienced bikepackers.

I was biking to Brandywine on Sat July the 13th on Sea to Sky. I did pass a couple of bike packers. That part to Whistler is very nice. It was hot though. Great you got to enjoy the nice part.

I got off canoeing the Bowron Lakes in this same heat wave, then drove 9 hours home without AC. I was so hot, tired, and fed up. Then as I rolled into Abbotsford, there was a guy running across Canada in that same heat. I couldn't believe it! Some people are just built different😂

The DNF was a blessing in disguise, you would have jumped in that river to cool you off, you wouldn’t have found that incredible camp site and we wouldn’t have seen a bungee jump 😃. No such thing as failing if you got up and did something, failing is not trying at all!

That rail road crossing is a mess. I rode Whistler to Squamish last week. That trail cures me of wanting a gravel bike. I’ve raced the Cheakamus Challenge a few times years ago. That started in Brackendale and ended in Whistler Village. Some of route is the same as you did, some did not exist back then. Very hard race. Would not want to do it with camping gear.

I didn’t think it was a fail at all, actually I thought you both had a wonderful adventure. Change is always an option and doesn’t in any way (as far as I am concerned😊) equate to failure. Look, had you not stopped there you wouldn’t have had that freakin’ amazing campsite. Enjoy what the adventure gives you, plan on changes on any adventure and have fun 😊❤️🙏🏼

Just completed this route a few weeks ago before the heat with loaded mountain bikes and it was really tough! I would not attempt it on gravel bikes. We went Squamish -> Whistler, stayed in Whistler and then Whistler -> Pemberton the next day. It sounded like you were attempting to get to Pemberton in one go? That would have been wild. Nice job on what you completed in those conditions!

Coincidently I rode my bike from my home in West Vancouver to Whistler today. It was 37 degrees Celsius in Whistler today. I also rode home and am completely exhausted and trying to rehydrate. However my bike is a 2022 BMW R1250gs. But still.😅

I too know about a weekend adventure fail I did manage to go from Cleveland Ohio off of 150th and puritas area to Geneva on the lake however I only made it back about one quarter I had to call in an audible and get my cousin to come pick my dead legs up because they were not going anymore Charlie horses out the wazoo

F.Y.I. 'bike packing' is just a word. It was invented or coined to: Sell proprietary weird shaped top heavy bags that pull your seatpost backwards, and to give you lots of complicated mounts for things in many places, rather than staying with sensible larger lower riding panniers. Also, hauling loaded bikes over unrideable trails, fallen trees, atv washout and trail ruination, etc. May I suggest a pair of hiking boots and a knapsack? For back packing, which is the origin of the word? And roads and panniers for Bike Touring ? Bike touring, cycle touring is the established descriptor. Why is everyone trying to invent a clutzy non- fun activity ? Btw I've cycled across Canada four times so I'm kind of an expert opinion.
