I drove the West Harrisson Lake road many times to go hit that same hotspring. Kudo for you to do it on a bike, it's quite a long way north-south and so many yahoos driving too fast, making tons of dust! But yeah, you made the whole trip look pretty easy and quick (which it isn't!). Cheers!
@JordanVegBike3 ай бұрын
definitely a fun trip, that hotspring was so nice. I don't know why but I think I got very lucky with everything. There were only a handful of people at the hotspring campground and overall traffic was pretty light. Definitely had one or two yahoo despite that, not sure how many more I could reasonably handle.

Shadow Lake is an inlet for the Cheakamus plant that is on the Squamish river. The Cheakamus dam by the highway holds the reservoir and water is diverted into Shadow Lake before it goes into a tunnel and down to the Squamish river.

I enjoyed this pretty, relaxing, and serene video, which also provided some glimpses into lesser-seen sides of British Columbia. Can you explain about the log barges and stuff?
@JordanVegBike3 ай бұрын
thank you so much! Do you mean the section of the lake where there are a few boats and logs floating? It's part of a logging operation. I believe logs are floated to this site from other places along the lakeshore and then put on trucks, weighed, and transported for further processing or shipping. The day after there were a few logging trucks using the road but none the day before.

Thank you for the amazing video. Question?? - Is the 5 km highway road section in the middle of the Sea To Sky trail right on the shoulder of the road or is it like the one picture in your article... with a metal guard and trail on the other side. Wanting to backpack that section with my animals and wondering how safe? Thank you for taking the time to read and answer my question
@JordanVegBike3 ай бұрын
hey, unfortunately the highway segments that interrupt the trail are full highway segments, no physical protection whatsoever.

hmm I'm really unsure. I honestly had not considered what hikers do at this section.
@chromebook27243 ай бұрын
Great video, thanks. can you take your bike right to the hot springs ?

the hotsprings have a campground but there is a short path down to the river/springs that you'll have to walk.
@MidnightPolak3 ай бұрын
Looks amazing, but yeah, wish there was a safer way to cycle from Vancouver to Squamish. Some kind of separated biking/walking route would be fantastic.
@JordanVegBike3 ай бұрын
Yup. If the BC Government/Metro Vancouver/BC Hydro wanted to they could develop a route or allow bikes/hikers to use the existing access roads. I think they are partially motivated by mitigating wildfire risk, which is fair.
@MidnightPolak3 ай бұрын
@@JordanVegBike Definitely wildfire mitigation. I've driven enough FSRs to see what kind of garbage gets dumped and illegal campfires started and left behind. I'm pretty sure I've put out 2 or 3 on my own that I've stumbled across. But maybe if you have to cycle/hike it, you're going to get more of a crowd with... integrity.
@JordanVegBike3 ай бұрын
@@MidnightPolak yeah I definitely don't think opening it up to public vehicle access is a good idea whatsoever. But partnering with the Trans Canada Trail, BC Hydro, Metro Van, Squamish Nation, etc and having designated campsites with pit toilets etc could be a really great hiking/cycling route and open up Squamish, Whistler etc. But again political will.

Thank you for this video. Great footage. The trail has cyclists crossing the highway (2:52 in the video) in a curve. Eeep. How far along the highway until you found the trail again? And how did you get on with the crossing? White knuckled?
@JordanVegBike3 ай бұрын
yup good catch on that one! Unfortunately there are a few sections where the trail ends and puts you on the highway. That curve is the start of a 5km highway section, mostly downhill at least. I think you could cross a few dozen meters further up and have slightly less of a curve, but yeah it is still quite sketchy. Had to trust my ears on this one. (Luckily cars are very loud, even when you can't see them)

@michaelfodor62803 ай бұрын
I did the West Harrison / Inshuckchuck last year on a KLR. It was nice. The ugly section by the north end of Harrison Lake has been fixed. The worst is that it isn't well packed down, so traction will feel a touch sketchy. And I mean just a touch. Otherwise go for it.
