This was imo your best video to date. One can get a good idea of what it's like to ride 435 miles in this case in two plus days. Everything about the video was interesting and sure glad you survived that crash and were able to peddle on to the finish. Great scenery as usual too.

Glad you're ok. It looked like your front wheel lost traction under braking? or not? Thanks for the video!
@DirtyTeethMTB4 жыл бұрын
honestly Ryan, I'm still not sure exactly what happened. I got caught enjoying the views, and lost focus for a sec... started initiating the turn late, overcompensated a hair too much... felt the wheel start to slide out, tapped the brake... I had more tire pressure than usual and hadn't been riding this bike much lately... riding lots of singletrack with my full squish... forgot how different this bike handles... especially when loaded... bottom line, I screwed up - good wakeup call, super lucky it wasn't worse!! thanks for commenting, ride on!

@leebarrett47094 жыл бұрын
Hi DT, another great vid, and another ride to add to the ever growing bucket list, thank you. I have a question: with hindsight what would you have changed to have stayed warm in those vault toilet buildings? I think I am right in saying that you know the area reasonably well so was the fact that you got as cold as you did just an accidental miscalculation?
@DirtyTeethMTB4 жыл бұрын
Lee, great question... I was actually ok in the vault toilets... a good 10 degrees warmer inside with no wind chill... I got cold sleeping under a table at Galena Lodge (1st night) - fairly exposed... and while I was riding the 2nd night. yes, I miscalculated. I expected first night to get cold (mid 30's per the forecast in that area) but it dipped into the 20's. The 2nd night got me by surprise as we were riding to a "warmer" part of Idaho when we left Stanley... was not expecting an inversion as we dropped a couple thousand feet to Deadwood Reservoir... in hindsight, I would've carried warmer gloves (I had a warm pair with me, but I would've brought some downright winter gloves), and either shoe covers or some dog poop bags to windproof my feet...my fingers and toes going numb was the main issue... I also would've brought a sleeping pad, the insulation from the ground would've been nice... 20/20 looking back:) thanks for commenting!

Hey dirty teeth! Love your stuff. My wife and I are riding the smoke and fire next month. we're lucky enough to have a hard tail and cut throats. What would you recommend for a ~7 day touring pace? We rode the divide a few years ago on our cut throats. Thanks.
@DirtyTeethMTB3 жыл бұрын
Hi Brad, thanks for watching and commenting - always give and take on which rig to ride with... my cutthroat served me well on the route overall... especially Boise > Ketchum. I did get beat up a bit on some singletrack sections, especially the new approach to Refish Lake, the western trail @ Deadwood Reservoir, and the final miles through the Bogus Basin to the finish... but that's expected. Either way, the route is fantastic and you'll have a blast - good luck!!

Just got a hardtail (TimberJack). Planning to to it this year 2022. What tires and width would you choose to run?
@DirtyTeethMTB2 жыл бұрын
Gary, thanks for watching... if I did it again, I'd probably use the Continental Race King 2.2's again. They were a good balance -fast rolling enough on the gravel sections, and they weren't outclassed on the rowdy parts - it's subjective of course... but anything in the 2.2 width world should be fine... ride on!
@cliffy2323232 жыл бұрын
Did you find that the cutty handled the course well enough or were you preferring a suspension fork?
@DirtyTeethMTB2 жыл бұрын
There are def sections where a sus fork would’ve been nice… especially towards the end, but the cutty did fine overall - 2.2 tires and redshift stem helped 🤙
@backcountrybananaboy2 жыл бұрын
If doing this course again, would you opt for a suspension fork or stick with the rigid setup?

Alan, what an awesome video! That crash looked brutal glad you're ok. Thanks for sharing such a great experience with us. You're videos are a welcome break from these crazy times we're in. Loved the video! Keep up the positivity and never stop schralping! 🚲 🤙🏽 Being from Boise as well as an avid cyclist/bike camper, this route, possibly even the event is on my list for 2021. Quick question: what aero bars do you have attached to you handlebars? I’ve been aero bar curious for some time now for those long days in the saddle. P.s. Don’t tone down your intro. Keep it rowdy!
@DirtyTeethMTB4 жыл бұрын
Welyas 406 - thanks for watching, and chiming in about my intro :) haha! Definitely put SnF on your list for 2021, it's worth it. I'm currently using Syntace C3 areobars on my bike, but I'm pretty sure they discontinued them. They are great, but if I was in the market for aerobars now, there are some sweet ones that have flip up arm pads that make it easier to reach your feed bags... here's a vid discussing my setup: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qZ6peWWgqM6GpbM - ride on!

@DirtyTeethMTB4 жыл бұрын
Dog's Boy, thanks for watching and commenting - I just lost concentration... still not sure exactly what happened... there were great river views off to the side, the endorphins were pumping... the terrain got kind of sandy in the turn and I washed out a bit, over-compensated, and high-sided... oops!
