In the UK we are taught to command your lane, if your to th left or right your inviting a car to pull next to you when stopped or moving, when in the command position (middle of the lane) the lane is yours. When you do advanced riding or driving your taught to use the sides of your lane to increase your view around corners and to straight-line roundabouts when your not going to be inconsiderate to other road users BTW I always leave a 2 second gap between me and the car in front but you regularly see cars taking advantage of your braking space.

He was in a car driven by a driver who did not know it was perfectly legal for her to filter and get in front of him. The guy that got out of the car was just a typical dumb bully. He has a good ass kicking coming for pushing her over. This is prime evidence that; If you are at a light or anywhere you can't easily drive off from an someone gets out of their car with intent to confront you...kick stand down, off the bike before he gets to you. You cannot defend yourself sitting on the bike. She should have taken off a soon as he got completely out of the car and drove to a busy place to stop that likely had cameras. grocery store, bank, almost any store front. Lane filtering is legal in most of Europe AFAIK, *but* it has become legal only relatively recently. Some riders don't know that they are allowed, and many drivers don't know (or don't care). They're stuck in traffic, so they are pissed off at anyone who isn't - cyclists and bikers. You can still get a lot of aggression and stupid actions for lane filtering, so many people don't. There are also additional factors - roads can be narrow and not allow filtering. Also, it's rather uncomfortable to do when drivers stop right at the line (which they should). That means that you have to pass the line to get ahead of them (and have difficulties seeing the lights, which in Europe are on your side of the intersection), or remain between the cars and hope that they've seen you. In some cases the stop lines are painted further back and there are 2-wheeler boxes ahead of them, that's very nice. If you get back into the lane and close to a car, it's advisable to take off very quickly. Some people like to try and race you, so if you don't take off right away, they might come too close or even hit you. Unfortunately, if I ever stall when trying to take off, it's mostly in these situations - stage fright, I believe. So I decide on case-to-case basis. If the person in front is too far, likely to try to race me (particularly if they may actually have a chance), if it's too narrow and so on, I won't filter. But at any rate I will position myself so I can quickly escape among the vehicles if need be.

21:05 Looks like the UK, here in Australia we can't filter in turning lanes, but they could still keep their distance and stay to the left or right so that they can move in instances like that. Another reason to always keep your bike in gear, never change into neutral at lights.
@wibblywobblyidiotvision
@wibblywobblyidiotvision Жыл бұрын
Yeah, definitely the UK. By the rider's position, s/he was looking to turn left, filtering would have put them in a dangerous position whatever happened. Filtering on the left puts them in a sandwich between the car who's also turning left, and on the right means they have to cut the car off. Also, if the straight ahead lane goes green first, being on the right leaves them exposed to a bunch of traffic screaming past them close to the right handlebar. Their positioning was not just good, it was close to perfect. Big space cushion in front, positioned in the centre of the lane meaning nobody can try to squeeze past them. Shame the ars*wipe in the white van didn't know which pedal to use, sometimes you can't avoid stupid.
@Cheesus-Sliced
@Cheesus-Sliced Жыл бұрын
@@wibblywobblyidiotvisionyou can position centrally but still point to the side. I do this whenever I'm behind a car, either position fully to the side or back wheel is in the center, front wheel is to the side, and if I get shunted forward I'll go to one side rather than into the vehicle in front, and it has the double effect of making my bike more visible.

But I'll never speed like these guys. A number of years back my sister and her family were struck from behind by a guy who was riding stupid fast in heavy traffic with some other guys. Borrowed bike, he slammed into the van so hard it totaled the van. He smashed the back window then went over the top, fatal accident. My young nephews were in the van, they're grown now and they still get sick talking about seeing it and being in the middle of it. So, folks, be careful, and don't do stuff to end up like that guy and don't mess up innocent people.

14:10 The center of the lane always has more oil deposits than the left or right. Oil pans are on the center of the car. There is little tire traffic, so the oil builds up. NEVER ride in the center of the lane. Even if it's not raining, the center will still have more oil on it!

Hi, Found your channel today and it's been very interesting to hear what you have to say! I like your calm approach to explaining the situation. At 14:42 you're explaining your position on the road and I agree with you, but I also see that this rider is from the Netherlands. Here we learn to position ourselves just left of the center of our lane. Just like the rider in the video does, so according to our learning system he's doing nothing wrong placement-wise. I also happen to know that if you go to an advanced class to learn to be a police officer on a bike or be an instructor, you'll learn to ride more towards the middle of both lanes. So there's this weird thing were you'll basically be penalized by the exam instructors if you want to get your motorcycle licence, but it's a must-do in advanced classes.

I used to have one of those Yamaha DT LC (first bike😊) and it felt like there was something else the matter there. Maybe oil or a flat. The tyres didn't look right also. One of the problems of that bike was that it was too good at cornering for it's own good, to a level that in a normal day you could scratch those pegs in almost every turn (and it's a trail bike, so it's gonna be taller than a sports bike) but that gives you a false sense of safety. The more on the limit, the less margin you have to play. Sometimes, you have grip so you get away with less margin. In controlled conditions, on a known road, good weather an tyres, I remember scratching pegs left turn, tilting right real fast, and as the centrifugal force reduced, the load on my fork springs, it was so much that my front wheel went airborne for a while, without throttle, before insertion on the new trajectory. But for this to happen, everything has to be in place. And that's why this doesn't go well in public roads... Memory lane I guess...😅

@@JustinLarmore-w7mthere really isn't though. Its been demonstrated very thoroughly in many studies that filtering almost never results in collisions, and when it does in some way shape or form the damage is negligible compared to the damage that would be expected in the very common nose-tail collisions. Its been demonstrated to reduce traffic, increase rider safety and reduce overall damage from collisions. When filtering at sensible speeds, its also not dangerous to pedestrians. Collisions with a pedestrian and a motor vehiclr travelling 30kph or under have a 90+% survival rate. Collisions aside, most motorcycles are air cooled and will be damaged by overheating if stationary for more than a few minutes, as happens quite frequently in congestion. I know for a fact the only reason my bike hasn't blown up is because I consistently filter and do not sit stationary in traffic unless its unsafe to avoid it. Heck, just a few weeks ago I would have been stuck barely moving for over 20 minutes, which certainly would have caused significant heat damage, if filtering wasnt legal here. Given the fact that between a 10 and 25% shift to motorcycles would entirely remove congestion (depending on the location), its absurd to think theres any benefit to making a small, nimble vehicle occupy as much space as a car and add as much congestion as a car.

I live down under and we had problems with Volvo drivers. There was a saying - Volvo aware Rider. They even made Tee shirts and patches on back of leather jackets with this saying on it.

These turns remind me of my grandmother's advice when turning in a general sense... Accelerate around corners. Deceleration is acceleration so deceleration into and acceleration out of = accelerate, accelerate.

"He didnt get shot?" I was already thinking - if i wasn't hearing English(?) accents, id be hearing shots break. One tip - if there is a potential of confrontation, get off the bike! Sorry but while i do agree with "public areas" i do not believe in letting them follow you for long because, if there IS gonna be a fight, you want BOTH vehicles out of the equation (his will win). He should have been OC'd b4 he got that close. THEN, finish your ride 👍

14:40 All rear brake, no front. Completely locked up until it tips over. If he'd have come off the brake for a second it would have unlocked and re-aligned and he could have stopped easily because the speed was fine. No front brake at all, so probably told to not use the front in the wet because it will cause a crash, which it ends up casuing the crash by not using it. Practice using both brakes in the wet so this doesn't happen.

Prius driver here. I don't understand it either. Never ever did this kind of sh*t. Triumph Bonneville T120 rider also... Maybe that cured me? Don't know. Here in Switzerland, Prius drivers are not a problem. Got much ore issues with Subaru or Mitsubishi Pickup drivers. (Mostly farmers) Oh yeah, lane filtering is not allowed here. Not at all.

Long time Rider & someone who works in the collision industry, no idea what it is with prius drivers, they are our most frequent customers, sometimes we see the same car multiple times in the same year. They just seem to loose all ability to be Observant or Aware of any surroundings for some reason. personally wondering if it is a design element of the car.

Jaywalking does not really exist in the UK, there is no law against pedestrians crossing the road unless its a motorway etc. In a recent law change they now also have more right to crossing the road on side streets (non main roads) than cars who are supposed to stop and let them cross.

The clip two wheels in london. In the uk we don't have laws for Jay walking or anything like, people in the UK don't care and walk out from wherever they like, between parked cars, infront of busses and lorries, between traffic even seen someone get out at a junction off the motorway when at the roundabout they nearly got killed and took 4 of us riders with her. Most people have a brain and use crossings, but still, there's a lot that just don't think, and these things can happen often to riders, which is scary as hell speed and awareness are key in these situations.

People seem so weak on the brakes, like they are afraid of adding on too much front brake but they add loads of back. Am I the only one who does emergency stop practice? Basically guess the point at which you're going to stop and see if you are right or not. Do it in my car too.
