At 7:07, the truck to his right absolutely had to have seen him before he even got to the point of now being in his blind spot. Its one thing if the rider was already in the trucks blind spot, but the clip shows the truck speeding up to the righter's side a few seconds in. I wonder, where did the truck driver think the rider he just sped up to went? Its why in cases like those, i genuinely am disappointed at the drivers who cause these types of accidents. Fortunately in his case it worked out but many drivers out there will just commit to the turn and force the rider off the lane/crash. Exactly. I love dan, but that assessment he made there was way off imo. The truck literally just sped up to the rider, then all of a sudden acts like the lane is clear for him to merge, knowing full well he JUST sped up beside a rider who was in that lane to begin with. Its like how could the truck really do that and just forget that there was an entire motorcycle rider in that spot hes trying to merge into. The video clearly shows that the truck sped up to the rider, meaning he/she had to have seen them. That bothered me because its happened to me a bunch, where a driver would just force you out of your lane, which could potentially lead to a crash for no good reason.

At least here in Argentina passing other vehicles on the right side is illegal, except when the other vehicle is about to turn left or in a traffic jam. Lane splitting is kind of a gray zone, but it is implied that you can do so only to get to the front of traffic at a red light as there are stopping areas for motorcycles behind some pedestrian crossings at certain avenues (which are always blocked by drivers stopping on them, which is not much of a problem because riders will just stop on the crossing)

When I was younger (in my early twenties in the late 1990s) I rode like a bit of a dick, which I admit now. There was one incident which really spooked me into being more defensive. I'd just left a local bike meet at the Waterman pub near Warwick (UK) and I was riding a series of twisties with blind bends and lots of junctions. I rode through it fine and was enjoying myself and thought nothing of it. A few days later I got a phone call from a mate saying that a biker who was literally just a couple of minutes behind me, he had went around a blind bend and straight into the back of a tractor with those spikes on them, and was killed. This really shook me up thinking that if I'd have left a couple of minutes later...that would have been me! After that I rode a lot safer, even if I wasn't the 'fastest guy' again, but I always think of that accident

Not gonna lie, 21:04 almost certainly looks malicious to me. Truck had no ability to go anywhere as there were no gaps and then very rapidly put his front end out like that in front of the rider? Seems to me one of those situations of a frustrated driver stuck in traffic taking it out on someone splitting lanes. I don't get why drivers do stuff like that. They claim that lane splitting puts people in danger, then they do things that put people in danger. And regardless of legality, a rider's act being illegal doesn't justify bringing harm to them.
@kingjet5123 Жыл бұрын
There was plenty of space behind that car, I see ppl do stuff like this everyday. I don't think it was intentional but when ppl lane split like that then they should know that's the risk. When ppl are in traffic like that you're not expecting a motorcycle to be coming in between cars like that

@@kingjet5123 Sure, there was maybe a very tight gap I wouldn't dare to try in my truck, as it would put me further back in position, put me in a bad position that risks rear ending the car I had been beside, and in a position to be easily rear ended. The other important question of the movement is the "why?" As far as I could see, neither lane was moving faster than the other, and there doesn't appear to be any exits or signage for such that would make a lane change a requirement. Highways are the easiest to work out what the blind spot is for any vehicle provided they are correctly adjusted. For example if you are in the left lane keep eye on mirror where the car is coming up and when it dissapears from the mirror, as soon as it dissapears from your mirror it should be in view from drivers window and peripheral vision will catch it. This is how you get a reference point of how blind the blindspot really is. Motorcycles are shorter than cars but if you're consistently looking at mirrors, you should be able to spot the rider long before they pass. Too many people think they have perfected driving when they pass when it reality they barely pass the basics. I beleive advanced driving courses should be goverment funded as many people will take advantage of this to become better drivers

Ofcourse it is an semi old lady that just turned with full speed.. at 6:09 where he paused it.. she TURNS at the wrong open line.. she start turning where the other entrance is.. she would need to move forward to the next open line where her entrance is and slow down, mirror.. turn. instead she start turning at the first entrance.. it amaze me that some people drive like this..

21:11 precisely why I don’t understand riders that lane split. After having a mirror broken off in a car by a rider doing this and seeing bikers fall while lane splitting I would never personally lane split.
@benjamin5002 Жыл бұрын
You need to line split because you need to avoid rear ended on breaks and to stay cooler with the wind. You have air conditioner on car but on motorcycle the wind is your air conditioner and need to sum all the gear on.

Was involved in a pretty serious accident last month. Slowed to avoid a vehicle crossing an intersection and was hit from behind. Me and the ole lady got banged up pretty good. Both drivers fled the scene :(, welcome to Louisiana!!! Suggestions on type of camera and mount for 2020 Roadglide...thx.

From an old biker, always wear a helmet, gloves and boots. Head injuries speak for themselves, hands are always the first to go down and second is putting the foot down.

7:25 blindspot *should* be irrelevent. The driver isn't going to check anyway - he's just gone past the rider, he should know there's something there, he should not be considering doing anything until he can see the rider in his mirrors. The fact he doesn't just goes to show he has no situational awareness and the blindspot will never be checked by him.

Lane filtering is legal in the UK, between lanes, NOT between the oncoming lane!!

Filtering and splitting are NOT legal in TX. Side by side, however is totally legal here.

12:09 thats a newbie mistake. What does a newbie with a big bike like this?
@craigfirman1809 Жыл бұрын
7:06 Sorry but you are wrong. The car 100% knew the motorcyclist was there and wanted to push in. They saw the motorcycle as they approached and just expected the rider to give up the lane. Otherwise the car would have already been in the outside lane.

Love this channel. 90% of every crash you show can be filed under: slow your ass down. If only people would listen.

When I drive, in a car, and go around really tight turns on one lane roads or dirt/gravel roads I always sound my horn. Just to let people know there is another driver coming the opposite way.

Excellent instruction, all new riders take heed to this mans advice. Dan....more blind spot lessons for all those who dont know what a blind spot is, lane position etc. I must say, those newbie riders who drove straight into a herd of sheep need to approach a little more slowly, and let the dogs do their work first. I wasn't surprised, because very little surprises me now, but riders who don't know that animals of all shapes and sizes need to be treated with extreme caution. I remember the video I saw of a rabbit taking down an F1 rider.....!

at the 06:00 timeline the rider was at fault cause they dont allow motorbikes to ride in the bus lane in that country unlike many others. he explains that in the original video.

No that bike with the passenger was in the bus lane which cars are not allowed to use.

That passenger crash, the biker was just sat in the blue car's blindspot. I always assume a car is gonna cut me up.

7:12 - in every other situation I agree with you, Dan, but in this situation, you can see that the driver is being a dummy. They came from behind the rider, so they saw him before, especially when the rider changed the lanes. Then the car got next to him and tried to merge into the motorcycle. They didn't pay attention. But no matter the fault, like you said, accelerate or decelerate to get yourself out of this nasty spot.
@ElementalSk81 Жыл бұрын
Exactly. I too usually agree with dan a majority of the time, but this was one of those moments where i have to respectfully disagree. Truck clearly saw rider before they entered its blindspot, so its really all on the truck to do whats right...which they didnt. Tried to force the rider out of their lane, knowing they were there to begin with...just scummy.
