I too was surprised at the value for money Stewart 💯 and much appreciated 🙏. I think the larger ebikes for use in the mountains etc are a fair bit more - but this is excellent for commuting and errands

Love e-bikes, they really do have their place not only for non cyclists and commuting, but also for those cyclists getting to the point in life where a little assistance helps keep them riding well into their later years. Also at £550 this one is superb value for money. Thanks for sharing Phill. This could be the start of doing the odd review on your channel.

Cheers Tony 🙏 - me too! As you know, Jayne and I discovered them in Italy and France - game changer for enabling us to explore together (Jayne’s been using a hired ebike in Tenerife to conquer Teide with me ). I was pleasantly surprised with the value for money on this one - and since filming have used it to potter around London for all kinds of errands 👌

I love my fiido D4s, I’ve had it about 9 months now. I’m surprised you didn’t de-restrict it or peddle with the throttle fully pinned back for 100% assistance. I only use mine unrestricted and I get 37kmh without peddling and I’m 18st. Without peddling while unrestricted I still get 30mile of range. I did upgrade the brakes to cable pulled hydraulic callipers for £35 for the set. I also added a rear light and alarm combo for £20 off Amazon. So now it’s alarmed with a key fob.
@BikeRacingWithoutMercy2 жыл бұрын
Very nice upgrades, Faith 👌- and for sure de-restricting will make it even better - 24km/h is a tad low at times. Like the alarm idea - makes it easy to use for shopping trips 💯👍
@faithwilson31502 жыл бұрын
@@BikeRacingWithoutMercy the alarm and light combo is great (so loud makes people jump though) it really puts the mind at ease when doing a quick bit of shopping, as most bike locks are pretty rubbish and I needed to add a rear light anyway and it’s no bigger than an average bike light. Unlocking the speed is great for going up hills and over taking traffic. With my bike the higher top speed only works on throttle/full electric mode. It works out well for me this way though. The peddle assist still tops out around 25kmh but pull back on the throttle and get up to around 40kmh (peddling fairly briskly) to get around traffic or up a steep hill,…almost like a turbo mode. If you ever want to unlock the top speed MrTechcat’s D4s video explains it very well. It’s so quick and easy to do and it’s easy to reverse again if needed. All the best!

@@faithwilson3150 Hi, I moved to London two months ago and I'm considering buying this model to start commuting. Can you please tell me where did you buy it and how much it cost? I was thinking about adding these accessories as well so probably if I end up buying it I will ask you for more information on that for sure. Aside from that, one of my concerns is the legal situation with this bike, as I know that it has a throttle on the handle. Did you have any problem with the police? Thank you in advance and sorry for all the questions.

Nice little bike ! Brompton HAS an ebike option, with the motor in the front wheel and the battery hanging on the bars 😉 The main difference with the EMTB Jayne tried in the Alps, is the motor type. On the EBTM, motor in the frame and has the same rpm as your pedals. The power of the motor goes through the chain, using the gear ratio you select when you take off. In the Fiido, it's a wheel motor, rotating very slow when you start, very fast on high speeds if you dare. Imagine your car having only one speed, hard to start and lound on the highway, but good in between 😉 It still has benefits : cost and weight.
@BikeRacingWithoutMercy2 жыл бұрын
Ahhh Pierre-Alain - thanks ever so much for the explanation and insight. That does explain why it weighs so much less - but you have to push the pedals a little harder at the start. Albeit you can use the twisty right hand throttle to start with 100% assistance if on a hill . Really did like this though for the commutes and city riding 👌

How is it like pedalling this bike without using any electrical power? Is it possible to ride comfortably at all, or are the pedals mostly there to assist riding uphill or when low on battery? I had a fiido d1 which I loved, but pedalling was hard as hell (it was single speed). Thanks
@BikeRacingWithoutMercy2 жыл бұрын
Cheers ubershredder 🙏 - this one has gears which makes it nice to pedal with assistance levels 1-2-3 and the turbo. It’s not as good as riding a non electric bike if the power is not engaged at all though

Hold in the brakes and fully pull back on the throttle then turn the bike on but keep holding everything in until Error 04 appears on the screen now let go and re-start the bike. Sometimes it can take a couple of tries before it works. After this you should get around 35-37kmh top speed without peddling.

The Brompton electric will be either 16.6kg or 17.6kg depending on the model which isn't much difference from the Fiido D4S which is 18.5kg but the Brompton will be £3k plus where the Fiido is £599 (cheapest) the price is a bargain even if it's slightly heavier. Obviously I know the Brompton will give you a better warranty etc but compare the price for that

Customer services awful and making threats when I return this 'If you insist on returning the bike, please pack the bike in its original packaging to avoid damage in transit, we will inspect the bike for secondary damage upon receipt of the returned bike and we will issue you a refund if the bike is not damaged' I don't insist on returning this bike I only want fair recompense for the damage and the cost to fix it, it is unridable. I was 1st offered £16.90 now I'm being offered £45 a third of what it will cost to fix. Also implying they will not refund if the bike is damaged in transit is frankly disgraceful! There is no way I can re pack this bike the same way, I also have no control over what happens in transit or back at their factory. We all understand things go wrong but it's how they are dealt with that makes a difference. My advise pay for this bike by credit card as at least you'll have some recompense with them. Fido, your customer service needs to stop behaving like gangsters and manage their mistakes honourably and honestly. There is still time to redeem this but it's running out. To add insult to injury this is a replacement for one stolen, not a great way to treat repeat business.
