Thank you for daring to compare 2 different extremes, I am from Israel and own a Super Meteor and enjoy it. Here the price of the Inidan is 135% more expensive than the Super Meteor. In my opinion, the Super Meteor raised Royal by several levels in production quality and still managed to stay at a reasonable price.

Thanks for your video! I tried both bikes and I am going to buy the super meteor. Of course the Indian is more powerful and has more torque, but this is especially noticeable in highways and with a passenger, which is not my main purpose. I feel the RE more fun to ride, very good front suspension and I was surprised with the easy handling (I come from a sport naked). However, the main reason is that, considering the price, I think that the super meteor is more in line with the "custom" philosophy. I want a cheap reliable bike with cheap accessories to play with. If I buy the Indian I will have to have it "untouched" for the rest of her days!

Yes and no. They will diversify their offer (and they do) but remember they are building bikes for India. This means smaller budget but also massive demand. They can afford making bikes cheaper. They sell twice as much bikes than Kawasaki they can afford to cut the price without sacrificing quality.

13:00 absolutely agree. This was highlighted by many youtubers. Fast fix is to set rear to highest setting, but in the end I will order something from Hitchcock's Motorcycles. 13:40 there is a screen in more premium version of Super Meteor (e.g. Celestial Blue) which also comes with cruiser seat and back rest for pillion. 13:50 to be honest for beginner rider I would suggest Meteor 350/Classic 350/Bullet 350, they really teach you how motorcycle works. They are more agile, easier to turn around. When I was doing my first 3000 miles on my Bullet I could feel that I am learning that bike and the bike is learning me. On Super Meteor it was bit of, oh whatever, you want to ride me on with a gentle rumble on 2000rpm, sure. Bullet 350 will educate you quick how you should change your gears. 13:56 for sure Indian will suit highways/motorways while digging through a curly village roads with occasional mud left by a tractor, that's for smaller bike for sure. I am curious how Indian compares in maintenance. Royal Enfields are designed to be maintained by their owners which is not a surprise when we think that this bike came from India.

I took both for a test ride this weekend, except a scout bobber. I was very disappointed in the scout, while the engine was great. The rest of the bike just didn't feel great to ride. I was very impressed with the Enfield. Definitely shot up my list of cruisers to buy.
@Gcollie3810 Жыл бұрын
As someone who is 6'5" I can say the Indian scout is actually surprising! Yes it is small for someone my size however with the extended controls and seat it's actually quite adequate for a long ride (3 day tour down the great ocean road!). I've recently upgraded to a bigger bike for my frame so my Scout is actually up for sale and as a selling point, it's a cracking bike, quite easy to make your own. After an exhaust and tune, the Scout pulls way ahead of the Meteor with power as well.

@deltabluesdavidraye Жыл бұрын
Why must everyone have more power instead of enough to do the job ?
@Gcollie3810 Жыл бұрын
@@deltabluesdavidraye "enough" is really subjective. I feel it's enough power to get out of trouble without having to wait for it to "wind up" as was described with the Enfield. I'm not knocking the bike, but as a Scout owner, I would 100% recommend this bike to anyone. The only issue I've ever experiences is customizing. I feel there is quite a limit on parts we can get here in Australia which results in having to pay importation and shipping for even the most basic things. Other than that, the low height gives you the feeling you are more planted in the bike, particularly in corners and because of the power, long trips you sit on low RPM's, which is fine for fuel. The addition of cruise control makes this an extremely comfortable bike. As for the power, I would much rather have it and not use it, than want it and not have it. The Enfield might be a fine bike, but strongly disagree it's a better bike.

When I was serious about maybe buying the Scout soon after it came out, comfort was not a word I could have used to describe it. The rear travel was harsh and limiting, the brakes were wooden and the ergos were ~Idonknow~ not for me. Damn, it was fun and fast though. I could see a nice set of black Bassanis on the Scout. Cool. I bought another Harley tour instead. Happy as a clam. I appreciate the styling of all the REs. I bought a Hemi some time later and she was great. So I had a Harley to cruise and a Himi for the rough stuff. Fine, but you mentioned a bike that could handle both. Two years ago I bought the KTM 390 Adventure and MAN! what a fun flippin' bike that is. Cheap, fast, comfortable, and light ... so damn light! Last week I got stuck between two deep ruts, (front tire in one, rear tire in the other rut and my skid plate resting tightly in the middle). Oh sugar, this could be a toughy. No, I simply got a handle on the seat, lifted the bike up and neatly set the rear tire in the other rut and off I went. That may sound silly, but that light weight is a game changer when your sliding backwards down a steep muddy hill or laying on your side in a shifting sand dune. Ooops, I've gone off, haven't I? Sorry ... when's your bike coming again? Health okay? thx S

I absolutely love 350 on these roads. Super Meteor is in Poland/Germany, a lot of flatlands with bigger straight roads. I know that Bullet wouldn't be fun here just because it's top speed is 72mph. Super Meteor fits into low country long journeys perfectly. I guess Indian is made for interstate roads which is completely different environment than English back roads or European flatlands.

RE's bikes are reasonably priced, aligning with what one would expect for a non-track motorcycle. Given the advancements in manufacturing technology with the assistance of machinery and robots compared to 50 years ago, motorcycle prices, especially from manufacturers like Harley Davidson, should not have exceeded 15k. I can get a brand new Dacia Duster for 17k. Motorcycles were traditionally considered a more economical alternative for enthusiasts and hobbyists compared to cars. However, the current pricing trends, with significant hikes over the last 5 years, border on insanity. How are motorcycles going head to head with cars? The industry, including prominent brands like Harley Davidson, may need to reassess pricing strategies to ensure motorcycles remain accessible to a broader range of people and RE is doing a great job at it imho.

If that were really true, all their models would have less suspension travel, less torque, less horsepower, less cruise control, less ride modes, less navigation, and less other many stock features to be good copies of Harley.
@simongilbert2704 Жыл бұрын
@@roguecheddar yes , thats true , i am on about the way the low rider s was copied straight away [ style wise , ] , their mechanics are different ..

@@simongilbert2704 Actually, the new Chiefs are styled to fill the gap when Harley dropped the Dynas. A lot of people were really pissed about that. Indian listened and made a great choice stuffing the TS 116 in a smaller frame. The bike is phenomenal. Harley fucked up.
@simongilbert2704 Жыл бұрын

Got little confuse as you were comparing Indian scout with RE Super Meteor 650 and you really like the ride and engine sound and other qualities of RE SM650 but in the end you thought RE INT or GT could be better than RE SM650. But anyways it was a nice video and personal choice. Wish RE introduce Shotgun 650 and only god knows when they will arrive in USA.
@BikesILike Жыл бұрын
I do like many bikes and the SM650 is great bike to ride but after thinking about it more I think I'd enjoy the more sporting nature of the Interceptor and GT more. That's the way I'd like to ride that engine. I hope you guys in the US get to see these new releases soon!

One thing I would like to ask is would you venture a guess on rhe Super Metors ability to carry a passenger? Both rider and passenger of medium builds.
@BikesILike Жыл бұрын
I think the Meteor 650 would do alright with a medium sized passenger. Just don't expect to get anywhere in a hurry.
@noelbrown6771 Жыл бұрын
@@BikesILike Thanks for that. I like to cruise. Never in a hurry. I'm just uncomfortable, when a bike can't get me out of trouble, with the crazy SOCAL drivers around here . (:
@flhfd1703 Жыл бұрын
I only got mine back from the first service on Tuesday, but yes, it can carry a passenger. I ride exclusively with a pillion and now that I can rev it somewhat more I can say it handles the passenger easily. Of course you need to rev it a bit higher but first country lane overtaking maneuvers went without a problem. I would definitely recommend the touring seat, though.

You say you would open up the exhaust pipe on the Indian. What does that mean? What bike has a rider backrest? Never heard of such a thing. Is the Indian LAMS compliant & therefor suitable for learner riders?

Super Meteor 650 rear shocks are too soft and bottom out making it a firm ride, counter intuitively they need to be on position 3 or 4 and 5 for if a pillion on board.

Blimey! That made in India Royal Enfield looks and feels just like it was made in the late 60s or early 70's. It looks like some of the parts came off of the very bikes from back then that we're still left in a dusty ol box somewhere. LOL!

Over here Scouts are a dime a dozen, plenty of used for as low as $6500.00 .people must get tired of them for some reason. No used RE here. I don't think they sell well here US. Not enough power, that's why I won't buy one. I luv the way they look! As for cruisers, there is 50 billion used ones for sale pretty cheap, most with huge jumbo engines. Yzf's, almost none used sport touring, not many used.

For power, handling and reliability per dollar, one of the big 4 Japanese riceburner companies is probably the best except the sort of goofy looks. Hardleys and Injuns have aimed their low seat heights at a Muricans that are short with a thick wallet to waste more on Murican made.

The Meteor just doesn't compare on performance. In the United States, like some other countries I'm sure, motorcycles are luxury toys. So performce and style tend to win out over affordability. I have an Indian Scout Rogue, but I've considered adding a Royal Enfield Classic 350 to my garage as a second, commuter bike.
@amlanswain Жыл бұрын
Biggest challenge with Royal Enfield is their pathetic after sales service. I have bought 3 RE's in the last 10 years, latest one being the Interceptor, the service just doesn't seem to improve at all. Finally shifted to Triumph, their service is spectacular.
