Royal Enfield recently release the brand new Super Meteor 650 in Australia and we were lucky enough to get our hands on one for a couple of weeks. Our time with it coincided with the 2023 Distinguished Gentleman's Ride, so it was out to the central west of NSW for Ross, to ride in the DGR Bathurst.
The Super Meteor 650 is a wonderful bike with the same engine seen in the Interceptor and Continental GT but with a brand new chassis designed in the UK by Harris Performance. That combined with suspension by premium brand Showa, LED lighting and the Tripper Navigation Pod means that this is easily the best Royal Enfield to date.
Check out our range of Biker Torque merch and apparel at bikertorque.com.au. We have items from premium brands like Segura, Beeline Moto, Rokker, Helstons, Belstaff, Pando Moto, Bell, Shark, Arlen Ness, Oxford and many, manyb more.

Hey team, I'm 59 years old and am about to-FINALLY- get my enforcement! I thought I had it down as to which bike was wanting to get, but, then I found the super meteor 750 videos on the KZbin channel, and, what a "monkey wrench" into the works! I truly like the retro appearance of the super 650. I'm first generation German/American ( mom's from E. Germany) I'm an auto mechanic, so I know quality workmanship. When I found the super 650, I had to rethink my choice, and, fast! At 59 years of age, I have NOTHING to prove to the young punks who "think" they can't be harmed by their wreckless riding attitudes. 🏍️ No shame to my game with representing the "well seasoned" rider on the road. Doug🏍️👍🐻🤓❤️

I upgraded from the 350 Meteor to the 650 and have no regrets whatsoever. In many ways I feel its easier riding than than the 350 and defiantly more relaxing - plus of course the added oomph is a game changer.. The only downside in my view is the fuel consumption, but what the heck, its worth it.
@BikerTorque

I reckon it’s still a pretty economical bike to run, but the Meteor 350 is exceptional on fuel consumption so I suppose you would notice a difference. But if that’s the only issue it sounds like you are onto a winner

To answer your question "would you buy a Super Meteor ?" is easy: I bought it. For my way of riding it has enough power and torque and it gives a lot of joy and fun riding it. I would not switch from a Meteor 350 - I would add it.

I’ve owned an Interceptor for four years now and have recently added a Super Meteor to my garage. I’ve been very pleased with the Interceptor and bought the Super Meteor after a couple of test rides at my local dealership. The two bikes are very different to ride so I have no problem owning both. The step up in quality on the Super Meteor over the Interceptor is quite noticeable but some of this has migrated over to the current production Interceptors which now have the upgraded switchgear and LED lights as standard here in the UK. Your review of the Super Meteor was spot on. Well done!

@@hershchat yup, absolutely love it! I've clocked up 1500 miles since getting it and loved every mile 😁 47bhp doesn't sound like a lot, but honestly it's enough for this type of bike. There's enough torque to make it fun on the twisties and this bike handles, with loads of ground clearance. To be honest the bike feels more like a naked retro than a cruiser, you eventually don't even think about the foot position. I've fitted more "interesting" silencers and this has given it a big kick in character... Especially on overrun.. with pops and occasional back fires it sounds amazing! My advice to anyone mildly interested in a super meteor.. GET ONE! you'll love it 😁

Hi guys. First thing. Had the 350 meteor and it was amazing on back street roads. Sold that and got a Scram 411. Love it. Had an Interceptor 650. Loved this one, but dumped it for the Super Meteor 650. The 650 is my prime ride, and has become a bike you just cannot stop riding. Poor old Scram sitting doing nothing. Now why did i move my beloved Int 650 in favour of the SM650. 1) Seat height and comfort. That seat is ho so comfy for long rides. 2) The back brake is so much better than the int 650 3) Tripper supplied. 4)Build quality of fender, side panels and switchgear. 5) Suspension is so comfy. Just makes you want to ride forever.. 6) Looks and styling plus engine are more than enough to please. Now one thing i hate. That darn side stand is a pain in the butt to find, until you get used to it. What i added. Yes i added a pair of mid frame footrests, that screw direct in to the lower frame. You can now have feet forward or feet mid frame. All in all. One hell of a bike that oozes quality for the price supplied.

Ok, so I must admit I absolutely love the Interceptor. As mentioned I have a Continental GT (amongst others) and love that also, but if I were buying an RE 650 today it would be the Super Meteor. Here in America I started to see many RE bikes. There are also many in America fed up with bikes being so over priced they are as much as some cars. I will be looking at the Super Meteor as an option. Simplicity is one of the things other manufacturers negated and RE is nicely filling in that niche. Going to give it a few seasons to see what issues may arise For now I have a 2003 Triumph America running great and so easy to work on. Thanks for the review.

Another excellent review. I've got the meteor 350 and it's great to hear that someone else enjoys the heel and toe shifter. I've heard the 650 has that option in India? My worry about the meteor 650 is the weight at 241Kg vs 191Kg for the 350, it's something I love about the 350, I've been down singletrack roads, dirt tracks (2up) and I worry I'd loose that flexibility on the 650. My other bike is a 270Kg triumph trophy 1200 and to be honest I'm sick of it's weight and it sits in the garage a lot of time while the meteor is ridden. I even took the meteor from UK to Spain 2up touring for 3 weeks last year, rather than the triumph, and it was so much fun. Keep them coming👍

I found the OEM screen to be noisier than no screen and it uncomfortably buffeted my head about. I put a dart marlin on mine, really suits the aesthetics of the bike and it takes some pressure off when cruising above 80kph. A solo "deluxe" touring saddle would round the package out nicely.

Great overview! I'm dead set on getting one of these, but I just moved and my garage is still being built. As soon as I get the keys I'm running straight down to my dealer to place an order! I love cruising at a slower speed with my feet stretched out so this will be right at home! Have you ridden this with a pillion? How was it? My wife loves coming out on rides with me so that's a really important factor.

@@BikerTorque A simple solution to that is to add windshield extender which will increase the shield length so that wind blast won't reach your helmet though you'll need to windshield extender in your country if they make for super meteor as for me in India there are indeed many manufacturers who started making them out and selling them both offline and online you can either order them in their website or you just find good one in your area so far there are two types of windshield extenders one is permanent one that is fixed on by drilling holes on your stock Windshield and another one is removable one that could be put on by using clips to hold it together with stock windshield.

@@BikerTorque l'm not putting a downer on you mate but I'm 62 years young and have been riding motorbikes since l was 4. My ol man back in the day found an old piwi 50, fixed it up with a little help from me and said there you go son. I've never looked back and have had more bikes than l can remember and that's gospel. I'm not the best rider in the world but l'm good at handling sticky situations. The reason l say the 650 is an entry level bike is because it's related to the L for Learners plates, anything over is pro class which relates to Super, Touring or Sports bikes where one cannot achieve P Plate status on anything above 650... Facts. Now when l got my License back in the day l was 15 in 1975, l worked on my dads farm, could operate anything from 2-3-4-6-18 wheels comfortably hence getting a open bike car truck License went without saying and have never lost any of them since, just added more. I'm getting a bit sidetracked here but l am of the belief that RE are in the process of engineering a 750 in a cafe style bike, now that's more up my alley, more grunt and 200kph where when riding with friends one will be able to keep up comfortably and really enjoy the CC power of a 750, l'm hoping that RE here the call from many an experienced rider and knock the power up to around 75-80 even 85 ponies, now that there is where the word fun comes into the world of riding, something we Territory boys like is Cubes and horses.... never been afraid of any of them. RE are going about it the right way and bringing in a 750 will absolutely pull in a plethora of buyers who crave the beefy 750 twin. I had many of them back in the day, 750 Honda's then went to the kwaka 900's should never have sold them either, had 3 of them, then had a couple Honda CB1000's, then 1100's which l bought my very first silver bullit spoke wheeled Suzuki Katana brand spanking for $2400, what a machine, spewing l ever sold that bike... then went to European and American which l own a 2021 moto guzzi californian, a 1999 lndian Chief, and a 2010 fatboy. I ride all of my bikes, love the open road, socializing with the mates and talking all things bikes. I'll ride until l cannot, this is a little insight of who l am and all comments are my opinion only but in general terms the 650 is a starter bike for everyone where l was disappointed in how heavy and sluggish the 650 meteor really was, but l am only speaking from an experienced riders term.. Royal Enfield in so many decades has not managed to change their technology. It's engine is vertically aligned instead of slanting at an angle like 99% of world famous bike brands - which makes it uncomfortable for riders of normal height to sit comfortably with legs on ground. Many new models that Enfield has introduced are all just embellishments, and the basic technology is still very the old British Enfield company's technology with no new advancement. Also the maximum speed is miniscule. Anyway with the vertically aligned engine placement and the resulting high rider seat position - high speeds are very dangerous. Even Indian Yamahas & Hondas etc motorbikes are technologically far superior than the British Raj's Enfield Motorcycle Company's Royal Enfield bike.

@@karunparkers6494Indian here. I grew up on a Bullet 350 that is now more than 4 decades old and still in the family. Your main issues are seat height and lack of technology. The first issue has been resolved by the launch of the Meteor 350, the Hunter 350 and even the Super Meteor 650. All the 650s have a forward slanted cylinder block but it does not matter because the Meteor 350 has a very low seat height even with a vertical block. And yet, it is the Classic 350 of which RE sells nearly 20k units a month. So your seat height issue isn't really an issue. The next issue is the lack of technology and performance. Do you ride a motorcycle or its brochure? If you had really spent as much time as you claim to have around Enfields, you would not have raised the issue of technology. That you did indicates that you are missing the point of the bikes RE makes. It's not about having the latest technology but about the ride. If you want technology, buy an iPhone or a KTM Duke. RE makes bikes that you just get on and go. It's not about setting lap times and bragging about features and so the performance on tap is adequate. What more tech do you even need? The 350 is good enough for most Indian cities and the 650 has all the power you can safely utilise on most Indian highways. Also, your statement about high rider seat position being dangerous at high speeds is completely WRONG. Have you any idea how tall the rider seats of sports bikes and adventure bikes are? RE bikes have seats that are lower by 1 to 3 inches. That statement of yours tells me that you do not really understand motorcycle dynamics. Yet you are here giving "sermons" to "foreigners". By the way, the 650 platform was first introduced to the so-called "foreigners" and then in the domestic market. Your original comment comes across as trolling because you don't seem to understand what it is you are talking about. I suggest you keep your sermons and geopolitics to yourself when it comes to motorcycle-related videos. You seem to have a chip on your shoulder as you use words like "foreigner" and "British raj". I especially take issue with the former. We are all part of the motorcycle community here. It doesn't matter what you look like or where you're from. The fact that you resorted to othering only further supports my observation.
