Same here, my first road bike, received second hand from an uncle. It was a quite light bike for the time. Mine had the shift levers made of black plastic (12 speed) Also the support of the seat was all plastic to be lighter, it broke during I was riding it...ouch...

Same here. It was a Gift from my father in 1985. I was 14 years old and It made me proud, riding this bike. Having this bike still in my property and riding still, last time one week ago. I won't give it away, because it remembers me to my father and the good old days with him, as he passed long time ago.

I brought a Raleigh Record off E-Bay for £40. Stripped it down and changed all cables and bearings and renewed a lot of parts. So nice to see this one being restored. In probably 1980 / 1981 I bought the "grey paint with Orange Peugeot logo" version of this from my hard-earned paper-boy money, with a little birthday contribution by my parents. It formed the basis for my exploring our province at the age of 15/16. I loved that bike to bits, it got stolen 13 years later...

Very thorough as usual. This bike is weird. Cotter pin chainset and steel wheels yet it has internal rear brake cable.Steel handlebar and originally 10 speed. It's great that you've resurrected this bike. With the new parts you put on it and the time you spent, you'll lose a lot of money on this heavy low quality steed. That's an incredible transformation. I've an old 80s Pink Peugeot that I'd love to restore to this level, but my knowledge does not extend to working on the parts from that era. Definitely getting myself an ultrasonic cleaner now though!!

LOVELY BIKE, must have been a top of the range item in it's day. Internal cabling within the age of cotter pins - WOW. I have no happy memories regarding cotter pins. SO! glad to see them relegated to history. Even when I was very young, they were always muck metal CRAP!!!!! that didn't last long.

I had one like that in metallic turquoise, a 10 speed with wafer thin tyres! I also had an elswick roadbike too. ah memories of my youth and I did some serious miles on them to.

I had one for 10 years. They where the best. Especially the original ones made in France.....other one where produced under license elsewhere....so-so. Glad to see one coming back alive.

Around 1977 I got my first new bike (every other bike I had was a hand me down) , it was a 5 speed racer called a chessington elite elan. Nobody seems to have heard of it.
