Ha! A Desert Sled! I actually bought my 2021 Desert Sled in part based in your original review Chris. I also took it to Wales in 2022 to do some skids and wheelies. It's an awesome bike and I'm never selling mine.

I am deeply in love with my 2021 Desert Sled... Nope, never selling mine... Every ride, no matter how short or long, just keeps inducing a never ending smile inside the helmet. Its a beautiful looking, nimble, torquey, fun bike, which gobbles bad roads and no roads with ease and is a superb traffic carver. As far as mods go, my best mods on this bike has been the SW Motech Adv Foot Pegs, Hepco & Baker tail rack, a set of Baja Designs S1 LED Pods, change of the stock headlight bulb to LED, front fork dust covers, Barkbusters ( i chose the Yellow guards as a contrast to the white and blue, looks amazing to me) and lastly a RAM mount for the phone strategically placed beside the right oriented meter console. The regrettable mod has been the exhaust. I installed a Leo Vince exhaust but started having headaches on medium long rides. So switched back to the stock one. Only issues faced with the bike: The tank cap is prone to pitting corrosion The rubber hoses on the right side of the engine had all weather cracked and had to be replaced as a set.

Love it Chris!! I have the same Desert Sled and have managed to do the Colorado BDR with it. Roughly 1000 miles of jeep, fire, and gravel roads and not a single problem. It's a surprisingly capable machine. I did however change the tires to shinko 504/505's.

I did almost all the same mods to my 2018 black Desert Sled. Tail tidy, Bark Busters, crash bungs etc. No loud pipe on mine though and I had to change the seat. I found the original so uncomfortable on long rides I have a Sargent seat on mine. An aftermarket rear hugger helps to keep the filth at bay too as these bikes throw road filth everywhere on a wet day!
@andrewpeter61282 ай бұрын
Food for thought...the OEM "tail" is very useful for fastening soft luggage (such as my Mosko Moto). Depending on your tail tidy, you might lose that attribute.

In reality, these bikes are too loud. Never been able to find an exhaust that I like for mine. Stock is too quiet, but all the aftermarket mufflers are way too loud, even lugging along try to be quiet, they're loud. Currently have a TBR with the quiet insert, and it's still the loudest bike in my garage.

As a Monster 1100 owner, I've always got a soft spot for the air-cooled lumps. Can't believe it was five years ago you did that off-road test - your hoodie would match the original black bike's tank scheme perfectly!

Recently replaced my black Sled for an Aprilia Tuareg. I'm sure I won't regret it. But also not sure! 😬A couple of changes I made to my Sled which you might appreciate: larger footpegs, preferably slightly lowered (you'll find the brake pedal is very low and that's one way to compensate). With a small modification, pegs from other Ducatis will fit eg Multistrada and Desert X. An adjusting gear lever helped too. Evotech's worked well. A bigger upgrade, but definitely worth it in the long run, is a suspension upgrade, or at least a suspension rework (valves and shims). Other than that, overall an awesome bike!

Too loud. Nice sound, but need to be a bit more stealthy these days to avoid too much attention from the wrong people. I've yet to find an exhaust for mine that's a bit louder than stock, without being painfully loud. It's my only complaint about the bike.

@exothermal.sprocket2 ай бұрын
Was never a fan of the "soup can" exhausts that got to be popular in the recent decade. Their tone is atrocious, even if loudness is where you want it. Also I don't understand how they can cost so much for so little material. Put a big open throat muffler on it, with straight-through core. Deep and rich, and just as loud.
