This section of Pennsylvania's 140 mile long Delaware & Lehigh Trail is a hidden gem, offering a unique blend of scenic beauty and rich heritage. Stretching for 18 miles along the historic towpath of the Lehigh Canal, this multi-use trail promises a memorable experience for outdoor enthusiasts, history buffs, and nature lovers alike.
Immerse yourself in the area's rich history as we pass by remnants of the once-thriving canal system that played a vital role in the region's industrial past. Keep an eye out for historic structures, old locks, and fascinating artifacts that provide glimpses into the lives of those who toiled along these waterways centuries ago.
Whether you're an avid cyclist or a leisurely explorer, this trail offers something for everyone. This ride took place on July 10, 2023 and was about 42 miles round trip.
UPDATE: The washout section of the trail has now been repaired (8/15/24)
If you're looking to embark on your own Delaware & Lehigh Trail adventure, be sure to check out the trail's official website for helpful resources, maps, and updates on trail conditions. delawareandleh...

Since I literally live 1 block from the trail. This is a place that my family has been ridding for 50 years. It never gets boring and always has some new and interesting things to see. My kids and myself had been swimming the Canal more times than I can remember. One summer as we were riding, in the distance was the wake coming off something moving in the Canal. We all stopped to get a good look. It was a giant turtle. At least 3 feet long and almost as wide. WOW! True that, be careful were you swim, lol.

Thanks for sharing your experiences. A 3’ turtle must have been quite a site. I wished I lived that close to a trail!! Thanks for your support of our channel.

I did a ride on the D&L starting at Canal Park in Allentown. It looked like the sort of place that in all the murder mystery movies the dog walker finds a body.

Thanks for the pre-view! We'll have to check that one out one day. A little bit of adventure make the ride more memorable, doesn't it?! Just keep the Go-Pro low when going under those low bridges!

BTW, a friend of mine and I did the D&H trail two summers ago, and it was a lot like your experience. But we mixed up back roads with the existing trail and made a pretty good loop out of it. Roads up that way were very quiet. Cheers!

You'd be happy to see the change in that 'ditch' we touched on. The City of Easton, after a couple of phone calls went to work with on it and now, I wish I had a way to show you a pic of their work. It's a great change and hopefully will endure some future storms. You instigated the change so thank you!

I ride this exact trip up to five days a week and think, from certain conditions, that I rode it after you that day and might have passed you on your return trip. Recently the end of that single path ride under Rt 33, another storm washed it out further and it is a tad scarier. When my wife rides with me we pack a snack and grab a seat in the wilderness, by the river. Very sweet. Nice job on the vid! I'm so glad you added the part about Steel Stacks! Maybe I'll see you out there...

Hi. I'm wondering if we saw you right about where you could see Steel Stacks? If you had on a yellow reflector vest and black bike jersey -- that was you!! Thanks for the trail conditions update. Good idea about bringing snacks. I thought we'd see more civilization than we did, but we did have lunch in Easton before we started our ride. Thanks for watching! We hope to "see" you again on our next adventure.

@@Adventuresonebikes That probably wasn't me. I'm usually wearing a vest and green reflector sunglasses. I hope you come to the area again soon. But I will find the link you mentioned to the D & L Trail organization to see what can be done about that 'ditch' problem at the end of Hope Road.

@@Adventuresonebikes Oh! Cool. How did you know I'm a member? I have made initial calls to the D & L Trail person responsible for the trail and also a call to our local congresswoman's office to see what the possibilities are to fix this never ending problem. Each time they provide a little fix it washes away with the next big rain. The problem is in Easton jurisdiction so I'll be contacting the mayor next. Wish me luck. The comments under your video were real revealing as to the quality of this trail. Que lastimo!

Thank you for the video. I rode the D&L from White Haven to New Hope and back in June of 2023. I asked a park employee their opinion of the trail as it went south from Jim Thorpe. He said to expect the unexpected and not in a positive way. He was so right. The trail was so inconsistent and, in one situation, dangerous that I called my trip short at New Hope. Along with my bike riding friends we easily average 2,000 miles a year primarily on rail trails/tow paths. This is without question the worst trail I have ridden for many reasons. That is very unfortunate because there are so many interesting and scenic areas but it just is not worth the aggravation you go through on the other sections of the trail. (And yes, cross over to the New Jersey side of the Delaware just as soon as you can!)

Thank you so much for telling us your riding experience. I'm not sure the piece we rode was our worst ride, because there were a lot of interesting things to see -- but from a trail perspective it is definitely in the top 2. Thanks for watching. We hope to "see" you again on our next adventure!

A few years ago I did night ride on this trail sponsored by a local bike advocacy group. We rode from The Ice House to Easton, had supper in Easton and turned around. The return trip was under a moonless night sky.
