It's just too hard on their joints and pads over any distance. Our Golden retriever gets lots of walks and hikes, but this is about still being able to bring him on a bike ride. And he's such a good sport about it.

What's your reason putting the dog in the cart and roping him in to the water is there something with wrong with him ?

I don't like to bike 20 km and have him come home with bleeding paws from running so far. Leash laws on the trails. First world problems.

@@Thoughtful_Paws makes heaps of sense,, thanks , so you even have to have a lead on him when goes for a swim .. I've got my son's retriever for about 2years 7months simular to yours l live next to an alpine lake NZ we don't have those sort of restrictions, haha but he's certainly not a trail dog behind a bike so we walk every where lam sure he'd love riding the trailer though ..
