Bilbo & Thorin - Hold back the river

I think the difference between Bilbo and the dwarves in the party was this: They believed in Kings, and he didn't. They saw Thorin as someone above them, someone who could achieve great a glorious things because he was every inch a KING, and they admired and loved him because he used that ability for the betterment of thier people. Because he reached down with care and respect. He didn't have to, and he would still be a king, and they would still follow his orders. But he did, so they not only followed orders, but went beyond, every single time, and loved him to the end. Bilbo saw a person. Maybe a person with bravery, kindness, and leadership, all which was to be admired, but no stronger or better or higher than the rest of them. He had simply benn handed that burden. So he carried it. He carried it without complaint, hell, carried it with GRACE. And THAT was what made him impressive to Bilbo. That he moved forward under a tremendous weight and still remained brave, loyal, and caring (even if he was a bit gruff). Bilbo wanted to help. Wanted to ease a burden. Wanted to be a friend. That was how he loved Thorin, which was not the same type of love as the Dwarves at all. The dwarves wanted to serve, which could, in many cases, help ease his burdens, but not always. Bilbo wanted to help ease his burdens, which in many cases, included following orders and serving, but not always. The dwarves didn't understand the difference until Bilbo hands over the arkenstone, and Thorin almost pitches him from the wall.
