That hose is for winterizing and running the motors on the hard, also you can back flush them when you on the water from there... I always throw some degreaser down there keeps everything clean

Yes thanks. I was having a hard time describing it accurately. I haven’t needed to use that hose before. I winterized them without running the engine afterwards

You did a bang up job Jeff trying to clean that bilge. I know how difficult it can be to contort yourself to get into places like that. Everything you did made it better than it was, so kudos

Good job finding the leak. A normal bilge should not have any normal water entry locations. Most manufacturers design drains and catches to reduce water in the bilge. Now that it will dry out, if you want to make the bilge sparkle, spray a little Spray Nine or Spray Nine Bilge Degreaser on the floor, avoiding power cables, let it sit and then take a damp cloth and wipe everything down. The good thing is that any Spray Nine that doesn’t get wiped out will help break down the future grease. Nice job.

Keep your bilge dry all the times, it's the only way to know in my opinion that you have a leak. Water leak, coolant leak, oil leak, any kind of oil leak. Best way to see all of these is with a dry bilge. You should have two of those in your engine compartment, one for high water, one for low water. Dawn is good for cleaning.

There is only one bilge pump in the engine compartment. There is one forward by the gray water pump. So it’s difficult to keep the bilge dry since when it rains water can find its way in there.

That hose that had a leak around the cap is a flush port. Zip tie it to hold it up. My 2002 5.7 volvo had a brass cap screwed on. Not a cap like yours. BTW if you take the cap off and lower the hose to where it is lower than the bottom of engine it will drain the block.

Thanks for the comment and the information. We haven’t used the flush ports yet since we drain the block at the end of the season by unscrewing all the drain plugs. And I haven’t needed to run the engines out of the water yet. I actually wanted to check them before they launched this past spring but they had us in the sling and ready to go before we could prep them. What kind of boat are you powering with the 5.7 Volvo?
@willtell7023 Жыл бұрын
@@eternitysshore On a lake. Have 22 ft 2002 Cobalt. Single 5.7 duo prop. Bought new..Based on new boat prices I hope it last until I die....LOL Only engine problem has been 3 fuel pumps. Finally replace with a non Volvo pump. No problems....

@@willtell7023 cool. Yes prices are insane!! I assume you’ve seen our problems with fuel pumps as well. And the problem with the paint. I bought a repurposed one without the interior paint and haven’t had a problem with that one.

My friend convinced me to pressure wash the bilge. Let the pump get the water out. It DID NOT go as planned. What a mess.

That flush port needs to be zip tied up high on the exhaust manifold or dipstick
