Located in Clearfield County, Pennsylvania the geological formations known as Bilger's Rocks are a breathtaking natural wonder. The surrounding area is intricately laced with hills, mountains, and river valleys that generally follow the Appalachian mountain range. This unique rocky labyrinth offers caves to explore, fern-lined cliffs, passageways, climbing routes, and other unusual features estimated to be between 316-320 million years old. Indigenous tribes in this region utilized these rocky outcroppings for shelter to escape harsh weather conditions. Established in 1988 by a group of local citizens to both preserve and promote the area, the Bilger’s Rocks Association hosts events that feature a variety of entertainment and historical education activities throughout the year.
The park offers over 10 miles of hiking trails, many of which pass through old growth forests. Some trails travel across privately owned lands, while others follow along streams or through hardwood forests. Group tours are available for booking in advance @ thebilgersrocks.com with a park ranger.
Be sure to stop at the pavilion within the park to receive an informational brochure. The park is open from 6AM - 10PM daily. I hope you enjoy this hidden gem in the heart of beautiful Pennsylvania.
