I was on USS Enterprise in 1969 VA 215 A 7 squadron, which replaced the a-4.

I was with VA-106 Gladiators, who flew the hump back A4E, on the Intrepid on Yankee station. What a great little plane.

This was my third and final cruise. When the Oriskany finally returned to Alameda in mid-Drcrmber, 1969, I was out! AO2 VA-192. Go Naval Air!

@PeterStanley-hb6nu Well, your dad was like a hero to me. Our pilots would strap in those little A-4 Skyhawks and get shot off the pointy end every day to my utter amazement. Never got tired of it. I hope your dad is still living with good health and I salute him.

@PeterStanley-hb6nu Peter, I was a Dragon on this cruise. Joined the squadron Christmas Eve, 1966 mustered out on that December day in 1969 when the Oriskany tied up at the Alameda Carrier Pier. AO2 Hal Van Slyck.
