A better analogy is, Every car on the highway is speeding, and Michigan was doing it with lights flashing, honking the horn and rocking signs saying f* the police and now everyone is shocked they got pulled over. They deserve the punishment just for how stupid they were about it. But I can't help but notice there aren't a bunch of fans out there pointing out the buckeye or hawkeye etc. staffer that was at the Michigan game taping their sideline. You all seem certain he/she was there, should be fairly easy to spot.

@NuRn69 nah, the talent level goes from high school, to D1 football, to the SEC, then the NFL. I remember I used to get extremely frustrated whenever a health department inspector would show up for a surprise inspection of our family bar. They would always find and write up ridiculous things like "Dust behind bar back" or "not using approved floor cleaning chemicals". Just to write stuff up because their job was to find things wrong. And my dad told me to not fight with them because they make the rules, they enforce the rules, and they can shut you down if they don't like you.
@SatansShart

Or it could be that the health inspector is just looking to help you improve your facility, provide a sort of to-do list, and provide a fresh set of eyes to point out some shortcomings that perhaps you’ve become “blind” to during your day to day routine. Maybe they are letting you no of some smaller issues before some bigger ones sneak up on you. I never took the inspectors notes personally. But then again, I can’t speak to your specific health department’s approach. I do see your point you are trying make though

the dumbest part of this whole thing is the NCAA and the NFL knows this is an issue which is why the NFL put a headset in the helmets. the NCAA would rather have the issue instead of solving the problem once and for all. every team sends scouts to watch other teams play. if your signs are obvious to someone who has seen your team play a lot of times before then it does not take einstein to figure out your signs. a bunch of crybaby nobody people that do not even deserve the right to even take the field with michigan are just bitching and making excuses for why their teams suck.

It’s funny that no one can just admit that Michigan has developed into a great football program. People assume that it’s all because of sign stealing. Michigan turned their program around and people go right to cheating. What about other teams that completely turned their program around in a short time? Case and point the Arizona Diamondbacks. 2 years ago, they had 110 losses. This year they made the World Series. 2 year turn around. Nobody thinks that’s a little sketchy? The point is, Michigan is a great team, they didn’t get there by stealings signs. It’s called developing a program

Lmfaooo well considering there is a clear line of demarcation of when the stealing started and when Michigan “became” such a power 😂. It’s clear to anyone with a clue what happened… Harbaugh was going to get fired and only kept his job by not playing OSU in 2020 and taking a 50% pay cut. After that season they magically turn the program around and have 2 undefeated seasons… Hmmm that’s very interesting 🤔 and convenient timing. Matt Weis hacks OSU practice footage from 2021 leading to an FBI investigation… Venmo records and receipts show Stallions and other staff members attended 30 some games over 2.5 years in which some games he had tickets to both sidelines. There is video evidence of him on the sideline of a CMU game from this season 😂 The best part about all of this is that you and even Michigan the university itself admitted they broke the rules 😂😂😂… you’re just trying to down play it by saying every one does it or it’s not that big of an advantage. To which I can say well if it’s not that big of an advantage then why did they develop a borderline million dollar operation to do so and broke numerous long standing NCAA rules if it’s not that big of an advantage. And second if everyone does it then how come your university is so dumb that they are the ONLY ones to get caught 😂… also just because “everyone does it” doesn’t mean you don’t face serious consequences for your illegal actions

I just love all the Ohio folks who swear up and down that this is the only reason Michigan won the past two years. I don't want to get too cocky because I do think Ohio State's defense is better prepared for Michigan, but I don't think their offense will be able to hang. But if Michigan does what I think they will do in a couple weekends, it's going to rival the 2021 game in terms of sweetness of victory. And I just NEED to see that fanbase in meltdown mode again. They'll be crying about Michigan cheating again, they'll want Ryan Day's head on a platter, it'll be glorious chaos.

In the case of the so-called "inflategate", if you studied any physics at all then you probably understand what is called "the ideal gas law". There are 3 components to this law. The vessel size (that would be the football), the gas amount (that would be the air in the football), and the temperature of the vessel and gas. If you change the temperature, the pressure in the vessel/football changes. If you increase the temperature, the pressure in the vessel/football increases. If you reduce the temperature, the pressure in the vessel/football decreases. The pressure in the football went down due to the fact that it was filled to the prescribed pressure in a 70+ degree room but was then taken to a 40+ degree cooler field. The pressure went down because of this, ipso facto. The NFL commissioner and most of the general public are unaware of such things so emotions and ignorance take over. In this instance no one cheated.

Makes sense to me. This message is quite buried, let's see who reads it. I am going to throw gas on the fire, Buckeyes, light your torches. I got carried away. This was fun. LOL. BTW, I think when Stalions resigned he may have refused to cooperate with the NCAA (if so, likely under legal guidance). Thus, they may not have been able to interview him, but I would think the NCAA would have access to his University owned technology (computers, emails, etc.). I agree that in terms of the overall pro's and con's and what is at risk (post-season games), the decision to "drop the TRO" makes sense. M beat Penn State, demonstrating the Maryland game likely isn't at risk. Although now that the Maryland game is behind M, it is obvious that Michigan, and especially JJ was not sharp in that game - actually not sharp in either game. The JH suspension might be a M motivator for the OSU game. However, I think the team would play better against OSU if Harbaugh was actually in attendance as coach. Especially given the soft offensive performance against Maryland, I suspect that M might under-perform in the OSU game without JH coaching. By way of background, after M's early season self imposed 3 game suspension ended even QB JJ and other players stated in interviews that JH's absence was an issue for them. A HC at a big school runs a staff of at least 200 people. Under NCAA rules, beginning in January 2023, the HC is deemed responsible for anything happening under him. That is a new NCAA rule that does not exist in the Big Ten rule book, which is one of the reasons why Michigan reasonably objected to the Big Ten's original findings levied directly against JH (to levy those findings, the commissioner "lifted" the NCAA rule and incorporated them into Big Ten rules when it had no authority to do so - this was no accident and showed bias, IMO). Here is an analogy I just thought of... If a mural artist is painting a Buckey on a wall in Columbus (LOL), but instead of buying approved buckeye paint colors from reputable sources, they steal some of the paint from somewhere else - a) some of the paint is improperly sourced and b) some of the colors have a bit more "pop" than the branded approved colors. Like work done in the past, the finished product is amazing and consistent with the painter's skills, training, reputation, etc. The painter is happy because they might get more big jobs as a result of how good the mural looks. The manager of the manager of the manager that hired the painter is happy with how the mural looks. Is the manager of the manager of the manager that hired the painter liable for the paint theft / paint color rule breaking? Under NCAA rules beginning this year the answer is "Yes". Under Big Ten rules the answer is "No". I agree that a low level employee whose responsibilities actually include reviewing film as well as watching the opponents sidelines to decipher signals, could potentially exceed their authority in terms of advance scouting and the HC very well would not know. Hopefully most folks are aware by now that every big team has such an employee, as well as many volunteers engaged in that activity. In this case, apparently the employee's lifelong goal is to have the HC's job. If the employee cuts corners to "look good" it is reasonable to conclude that the employee is not going to say, hey, I used questionable sources to verify some of my deductions. Or, (if this is the case) it is reasonable to conclude that the employee is not going to disclose that "of the multiple sources I used for film clips I put on the shared server, one of them is from a questionable source..." It would also be reasonable to find that the employee wants to look as capable as possible and isn't going to divulge sources that might not reflect well on them. Most of us who worked in large corporate environments or smaller operations know folks just like that. Of course, after due process, the NCAA might find that JH was involved and / or knew of the scheme. However, THE PUBLIC DOES NOT KNOW YET. Technically, as written in the Big Ten rules, it is very questionable whether or not the Big Ten has the authority to levy a penalty against JH at this point due to several impediments in its own bylaws. Big Ten authority is a longer discussion, but anyone that wants to actually be informed can probably download the NCAA rules and Big Ten rules, then listen to Rick Hoeg of Hoeg law for a legal de-construction of what the words in the rule mean. The head of an administrative organization can often act somewhat unilaterally without due process, but in the Big Ten bylaws there are written guidelines limiting what the commissioner can do once the NCAA has initiated an investigation.... The NCAA does seem to be "out to get Harbaugh" so IMO it will likely take some liberties in how it approaches this. Dropping the TRO in exchange for an understanding with the Big Ten that it will stand down (honoring its own bylaws henceforth), seems like a good trade that most likely clears a path through the CFP. Dropping the TRO does not necessarily suggest liability especially when balancing the decision against the risk of random (unexpected) judicial rulings, PR, and operating under what appears to be a biased administrative process in exchange for reducing team distractions and a potential clear path to the CFP. For fun, I'm going to throw some napalm on the fire: There is also the "little detail" that Big Ten rules, as actually written, do not actually prohibit in person same seasons scouting of "opponents" if the person scouting is not an employee. It can also easily be argued that non-employees can film games in person from their stadium seats with their personal devices. Who is stopping you, or me, from doing so? It is also obvious that fans, boosters or whoever, can and do communicate with a football program and offer their insights. All of that is obvious; or should be. Especially if none of these scouting activities are funded by the University it can easily be argued that the University did not engage in the activity that the independent 3rd parties participated in. Note that thus far a FOIA request shows that CS did not submit expense reports for reimbursement of advance scouting activities. If CS did not engage in [or fund with University money] direct "in person same season scouting of opponents" then the debate is the connection between the non-employee and the entity that is governed by the rule book. An argument can be made that under that scenario, it is not a prohibited activity. The rule book does not prohibit a non-employee 3rd party from filming a game....meaning you and me or anyone else.....and by extension then the rule book cannot prohibit a non-employee 3rd party from offering insights or findings from that 3rd party's game attendance to other teams. Sorry, haters, it just doesn't. It might seem "wrong" to do so. And maybe it should be, but it does not appear to be a rule violation. In fact, I would bet dollars to donut holes that Alabama, Georgia, OSU, etc., have received credible insight from fans, graduates, boosters engaging in "same season in-season scouting". I'll even bet that those schools have provided insights gained from "in-person same season advance scouting" to the "opponents of their opponents" with the objective of improving their own standing. The only "surprise" would be if those teams and others had NOT received credible insights from advance in season scouting of the respective team's future opponents. Note: some of these "independent 3rd party" boosters might be prior players, including QB's, prior coaches. I'm looking at you Urban Meyer.... With a logical and dare I say "open minded" assessment, it is possible that now we are potentially just debating the "degree" of the activity and responding to the volume of the PR uproar. And yes, it does matter if "everybody is doing it" because the rule book doesn't say that some teams can do "it" a little while some teams cannot do "it" more. Pile on. LOL. @@bmorg5190

Rich, you are simply wrong in saying "that's not legal." There is absolutely nothing in the rule that prohibits sending non-members of the coaching staff to games and nothing in the rules prohibiting non-staff members from recording things and sending those recordings to a staff member. None. If one wants to call it a gray area, fine. But the letter of the rule was not broken. The only potential violation is if it is confirmed that it was Stalions on the sideline of the CMU-MSU game. And the one time something like this was reported regarding a Baylor coach the violation resulted in a half game suspension for that assistant. A half game!!

I find it hilarious that Michigan steals some signs, and people want to say this crazy 15-0 national championship season is bogus. On the other hand, almost every college football fan admits that winning at this level is mostly about recruiting and getting the talent and speed, and depth of talent. I bring that up to put a giant microscope on Alabama and Nick Saben and his supposed, "Goat" status. It is a proven fact they gave players gifts like new Dodge Chargers, throughout that entire dynasty run. They don't even try to hide it anymore. Hell Nick Saben owns the dealership where all the cars came from. I'm not exaggerating, like all 22 starters on that dominant 2009 team had brand new Chargers. If we can admit that winning in college football is 90% recruiting, if not more, then I argue that Alabama's cheating is way worse then sign stealing. I've had former players admit to me that they were given new cars to commit to Alabama, and they told me that their car wasn't even in their own name, it was in Nick Saben's name lol.

Michigan didn't break any rules!!!! Michigan had to bend because the BIG10 already showed that they will work with other BIG10 teams to break their own history and culture to get to a desired outcome. It's 100% legal to do what Michigan did. The rule is no in person scouting and Michigan wasn't IN PERSON. Is it legal-adjacent? maybe. The video argument is wrong too. The video rule is only for in-game use which means you can't use video and call down to the sidelines during the game to steal signs. Explanation: They made a rule against in person scouting....why make a rule about video use in a game you already shouldn't be at. Common Sense!!!!! The video rule is about in game.

I remember professor Dershowitz (famous Harvard law professor and attorney) saying, he won cases he thought he would loose and lost cases he should have won. At this point, Michigan might have felt it was better off taking 3 games NOW than gambling against other outcomes later. This is because they already. beat Penn State, they are confident in beating Maryland, so only the OSU game is at risk. And Moore has proven himself. Bill burr is hilarious n I disagree with him a lot. But he's correct here. Every team has a guy who is tasked with figuring out opposing signs. Now did michigan go to far? Absolutely.. should they be punished? Absolutely. But punished for what exactly? At this point all we know is in person scouting of multiple games. But that's not it. N even if the conf. Takes no further action they still have the ncaa to deal with n after burger-gate they won't let this slide. So there will be more punishment to come. N what bothers me the most is I feel the kids are paying the biggest price here n I doubt any of them knew or had any hand in it. Then u have the ncaa rush to announce the investigation bc anonymous source at osu leaked it early....then every leaked update the whole time came from anonymous osu sources. Tgat alone bothers me n looks like a hit job. N lastly if teams were warned as early as last yr that mich had their signs.......which are changed constantly then it still doesn't explain why umich keeps blowing everyone out. But now that mich has returned to its roots.......n I mean rolling over for the BIG not the smash mouth style.......idk my feeling is even tho we saw problems on the right side of the o line last week.....rhey won't b fixed in time for osu....n Moore will run every play n cost these kids the chance they worked so hard for. Then mich will cry n say we do things the right way here just like always while osu beats a coaches team. I'm sick of it all. Here is your problem. About 3 years ago, people were ready to let Harbaugh go. Michigan was seen as a disappointment that could not compete with Ohio State. Suddenly in 3 years, Michigan has gotten much better and is a top 5 program. Weirdly, things magically started fixing themselves right around the time the cheating started. This sounds like the steroids argument all over again. The idea that you don't need to cheat or it is no big deal or everyone else does it, is counterbalanced by the fact that someone DID it. People don't do things for no reason. There was clearly a benefit (in this case fixing things in 3 years and suddenly becoming a destination for coveted recruits) or they wouldn't have spent the money & time, much less taken the risk. They did, because it did benefit them. In this case vaulting Michigan over Ohio State, and putting Michigan in the top 5 - vs where it was 3 years ago.

It's almost as if the recruiting classes were better the last 4 years. Mind blown

@@Chris-ey8zf That's the point. If you cheat, and thus win more, you get better recruits. But it certainly is odd how the moment the cheating starting, Michigan magically righted itself by winning more...and so attracted better recruits. Sounds like all that cheating paid off. Which is the problem.

You attributing all of that to (allegedly) having a slight advantage on stealing signs is just crazy

@@Makers745 IS it a 'slight' advantage? That is a lot of flying around, sending people out in disguises and then taking all that risk on for 'slight' advantage. And since the timelines of the start of the cheating and the sudden improvement in winning almost line up perfectly...it almost looks like a severe advantage vs a 'slight' one. Remember the steroids argument was the same. It only gave them a 'slight' advantage. Turns out that was a lie, there were massive advantages.

Stupid analogy. Teams improve year after year if they get the right coaches and players. Random case in point, Kansas Jayhawks are 7-3 this year & have been an improved football team over the last couple of years. From 2010-2021 they won a total of 23 games, not a good average. Then in 2022 they went 6-7 and this year they are 7-3. By your take on things they must be doing something shady because there is improvement over the last few years? Maybe they have an individual acting solo as well that is completely turning things around for the whole program?
