The thing about Dave Chapelle is that his specials are best seen as a whole. He does a lot of set ups throughout other jokes to deliver a massive ending connected to like four other jokes. His specials are really intertwined with other callbacks inside every joke.
@TheGLORY134 жыл бұрын
Yup and I do think he's always had some political with his stuff. He's a story teller at the end of the day and as you said you need to listen to the whole set and you'll get the connections throughout.
@pablozee63594 жыл бұрын
Chapelle is great in the medium of stand up, but the whole “Dave is the GOAT” stuff didn’t happen until after the “Chapelle’s Show” tv series drama. He wrote and performed some genius and now iconic sketches that factor into his status as a legend. A lot of the people who call Dave the GOAT are more familiar with the sketches from the tv show than his body of stand up material. I think knowledgeable fans of stand up comedy accept that there are others whose stand up material can go toe-to-toe with Dave’s. I was at a show in Austin where Dave came in with very little prepared material and just riffed and bullshitted with the audience for more than three hours. His specials are obviously much more focused, but his sets can be very interesting and unorthodox affairs. Funny, but more philosophical.
@PapaGG3604 жыл бұрын
@@TheGLORY13 it’s always been political but it’s never been super biased if that makes sense.. almost in terms of South Park where Dave Chapelle makes fun of most groups. He can make fun of Bush, Obama or Trump

The pattern i see with Dave Chapelle and Bil Burr is that they are considered the funniest because they don't put any limits or restrictions on themselves, they don't care to offend one person, they give true comedy entertainment, like its supposed to be.
@AdmiralKnight4 жыл бұрын
There's a difference between joking about a taboo subject and not caring if you offend someone. Bill obviously cares about not offending people, or else he wouldn't censor himself when talking about the n word or offer olive branches during his sets (Like when he says he's not calling the women in the audience whores during his gold digger bit). Bill and Dave are able to talk about those Taboo subjected WITHOUT the people they're talking about getting offended

Dave Chappelle and Bill Burr are easily the top 2 comedians right now. I’d give the edge to Dave as who should be #1 due to the fact that Chappelle has had a longer history of doing it and in various formats. He’s been funny in movies; his sketch tv show; and on stage. Bill to me is best in his position as a stage comic. Chappelle almost never lets up in in situation. I think you guys need to react to more of Chappelles standup. For example the one about talking to the police. It’s older but still relevant.

One of the first movies that had that plot ironickly had a black teacher trying to help a bunch of white lower class kids who were on a road to poverty and disfunction. And it was set in England. That's right, I am referrig to "To Sir With Love" with Sidney Poitier. and it was a brilliant movie, that DID have that plot. But later it was converted to the White teacher saving inner city minorities in American slums, and they used that formula about 10 times. If you haven't ever seen "To Sir With Love", and I assume most younger people haven't even HEARD of it, muchless saw it, do yourself a favor and treat yourself. It's a surprising movie, and if you aren't aware of the era and the locale, the sharp contrasts between the modern stereotypical plot i the "genre" will really show you a different reality, set in a different time. I thought it was really well done, and I too had never seen it, but I make it a point now to watch it every several years now. I recognized the theme song of the movie from when I was a kid growing up. It turned into a hit in the 60's and was played a lot o the radio in the 60's as a contemporary hit and the 70's as an "oldie". I believe the song is also called "To Sir With Love". I believe both the movie, and the video of the song, which has scenes from the movie, are both free on youtube. Databyter
