Saw the Sons of Champlin in 1968 Santa Clara folk rock festival, Bills voice stood out right from the start. Remember thinking, this guy sounds a bit bit like Lou Rawls, very cool 😎

This is that L.A. Soul. Graydon and Foster were runnin the late 70s and especially the early 80s. Then you had George Benson, Al Jarreau, Toto, Michael McDonald, Pages, Ambrosia, EWF, Quincy Jones. I wouldn’t classify it as Yacht Rock. They could rock, true. But they made some Jazzy Soul stuff too.

Actually, they did!! Kinda tough to find (and expensive)... by Jay Graydon (playing guitar in this video) on a 1993 album titled "Airplay For The Planet" (at least 3 different artwork covers and a couple of song variations) kzbin.info/www/bejne/kIWmlpelmK2fpac
@Roostermania20102 жыл бұрын
It also appears on a self-titled album from 1980 called "Airplay" with Jay Graydon and David Foster posing on the cover... This version is a bit closer to what's on this video from "Thicke Of The Night" beginning with Tommy Funderburk on lead vocal and then Bill takes over, both versions featuring Jay Graydon's harmonized guitar solo. kzbin.info/www/bejne/rnbIeIymjb6cZ5Y
