heres a nother theory that helps, it is said that exolotl will help when who speak his name rightly, as a punishment, in death those who spoke the name e-x-o-l-o-t-l in normally in near death, their voice will be heard in reverse ( so for those who is in near death, have to successfully call out exolotl by it's reverse name). this is actually a punishment because he claim himself as god while he was still alive, and he claims exolotl as god when he is near death
