The 2023 Pittsburgh Steelers were a 10-Win playoff team only down 6 points to Buffalo, in Buffalo, in the playoffs, with a little over 6 minutes to go, without TJ Watt, and Mason Rudolph as their QB. So that was their status with last year's roster. Now they've added Russ Wilson at QB, Patrick Queen at middle linebacker, Donte Jackson at cornerback, with a healthy TJ Watt, Minkah Fitzpatrick, Cam Heyward, and a 2-headed rushing attack from Hell. Pittsburgh is a dangerous, old-school smashmouth team in 2024.
@jimm.65426 ай бұрын
Coach Tomlin has had some bad luck with key injuries for the past five years or so. Losing Ryan Shazier to a career ending injury is a prime example. But he has the same mentality as coach Cowher…….. next man up! Sometimes it doesn’t work that way but it’s the Pittsburgh Way. I hope these off-season deals work out and make Pittsburgh a Super Bowl contender again. Meanwhile, I’m happy for Mason Rudolph. He’s on a new team with a really good chance of being the starting quarterback.

Kenny Picket wasn't going to be our franchise QB for the next 20 years. Why not take a chance on Russ? The Leader Of men everyone is talking about is Bill Cowher, which he is. "I wanted my players to walk the line.....with some cockiness and swagger, and if you aren't crossing the line, then you aren't trying hard enough.......I'll be there to pull you back." The video that was playing in my head was when he was in Greg Lloyd's face, Cowhers chin protruding as he's yelling at him, "SACK THE QUARTERBACK, JUST SACK THE QUARTERBACK"......He's an all time great.

Interesting. Carroll: “Run early…throw late.” Cower: “Throw early…run late.” The former philosophy helped Russ build his reputation as an assassin and a dream destroyer. The latter philosophy will place Russ back where he belongs (maybe above that), and if the Steelers need him to save the day at the end here and there, he still has nerves of steel and can do that.

Russ is a tough guy, and I expect him to make more effort to bond with the guys. It isn’t that he didn’t before, but he can do better. He’s got to do more than just fly them to his SD home to train. He needs to go to their level(s) and bond with guys for real. He needs to play a prank or two…have a prank played on him. He can embarrass himself in front of them, they can embarrass themselves in front of him. Build the brotherhood, man. Russ is corny. He can use it to his advantage. Make the guys laugh. He needs to forget about “Russ, Inc.” and show his human side. There’s an opening scene in the tv show, the game in which Derwin is doing the Superman dance. Russ needs to dance in front of the guys. He can’t dance e, so he will look nutty. That’s a good thing. it’s okay! Dance badly. The guys just need to know that he’s one of them.

Over the last three season Fields and Wilson rank extremely low in yards/game yards/attempt passer rating completion percentage and total yards. Fields averaged 7.1 yards per attempt passing and rushing in 2022 when he won 3 games and lost 12. Great offense. Russell Wilson is 3-6 in the playoffs since 2014.

Pat is 100% right about the physical team part. The moment Pickett got injured for the 3rd time last season, is the moment I knew he was done in Pittsburgh. The organization is very patient and loyal with the players, but there is nothing to be patient with if you are not putting up any numbers and you certainly cannot call yourself a Steeler if you play like Mr Glass out there. Every time Pickett was not getting up, I was missing Big Ben 10X more lol

I love Coach Cower and all he accomplished, But he only won 1 Super Bowl with some pretty amazing teams. And when you look at all the teams who repeated Super Bowl appearances and wins they all had amazing Quarterbacks and passing games that were able to find the end zone via the passing game in all 4 quarters. As I Steelers fan, it's awesome when we can physically dominate opponents but if that means 500 at the end of the season and squeaking into the playoffs is the best we can hope for with that philosophy in today's NFL, then maybe it's time we reconsider our strategy?
