@@countryboycansurvive7663 I used to watch Bill on Saturday mornings until my daddy came in the room. My daddy couldn’t stand the show because he hated to see Bill put the fish back in the water. My daddy was raised during the Great Depression and he wouldn’t throw a minnow back in the water if that minnow ate his cricket. 😂

Bill and Roland were my fishing fathers growing up in the 80s and early 90s. I find it interesting here that Bill is using such a short rod, 5'5". I guess it goes to show how rod manufacturing technology has progressed since the 80s. This video is gold, Jerry! Gold!

See all that white rock? That is a phosphate pit. There was 1 where I grew up. I used to sneak in and fish. My dad condoned it. He said “they can’t do anything to you”. I was 15. And I didn’t catch any biguns and I was perfectly capable of. But i caught the fish. And healthy. Man those fish were healthy and fought good. I used the original kayak. Innertube, or otherwise known as belly boat. I still fish out of a belly boat in small waters. I never got caught. I still relive those memories and will for the rest of my life.

@@countryboycansurvive7663 I understand. This particular fishin hole was owned by a brick 🧱 company. So it wasn’t like it was an individual ranch or something. Owned by Corp. America. Also I think there is a difference in fishin and hunting when trespassing. It is hard to replace a natural resource that is killed. I was just a kid. My dad was trying his best to keep me off drugs and alcohol. I would have never killed anything. Even a fish. As a grown man-I would never trespass. Times were different back in the 80’s.

Dude. Bill Dance used a 5’6” fast action rod! This is wild. I use a 7’1” and I think a lot of folks use a similar rod. The important part, as he highlighted is the action of the rod not the length. I bet Bill uses a longer rod these days, but he was rocking that short rod back in the day

That iconic Tennessee hat. I wonder when he started wearing it?
@vintagecrazyjay49703 жыл бұрын
Bill's Lucky Cap For 40 years, Bill Dance’s trademark has been his orange and white University of Tennessee cap. He’s always filmed or photographed wearing it. “Doug Dickey, who was football coach at UT in the late 1960s, called me one day and said he was recruiting a player in Georgia who loved to fish, and was a big fan of mine,” Dance recalls. “He asked if I’d drop the kid a note and put in a good word for UT. I did, and a few days later I got a couple of UT caps in the mail from Dickey. “I was wearing one of the caps a little later when I won a big tournament. I was photographed in the cap, so I wore it on my next TV show. Before I knew it, it had become part of my identity. I’ve been wearing a UT cap ever since.” Is it his lucky charm? “Nah, I’m not a bit superstitious,” Dance says with a chuckle. “Let’s just say if something’s working, I like to stick with it.”

As a kid, I had a buddy who swore by plastic worms 🪱 We'd fish for a few hours, and while I'd catch a catfish or two and dozens of bluegill, he'd be lazer focused on catching one or two bass. I tried a few times, but the muddy river bottom of the lake I fished didn't let me feel anything and I never got so much as a bite, so I gave it up as a lost cause and didn't bass fish - I wanted the biggest catfish, anyways, so that's what I went after. Once I caught a 3' channel cat and then a 4', I felt I'd accomplished my goal and switched to bass. Since then, I've tried most lure options out there, but I prefer and have had the most success with swim baits and spinners; I usually combine the two by putting a 3.5" paddle tail minnow on the hook of my spinner baits, and bass love it. That said, I'd love to learn and have success with worms. I've done similar with trout, by fishing a 2.5" spiral tail grub a couple inches behind a split shot, so I might try throwing a worm this year.

Worms have cought more fish than all other lures combined
