Bought a bunch of antique fishing lures and one was a Al Foss No. 3 spinning bait? Made in 1920's. Martin Roland is kicking it on KZbin!

Roland was a teacher before making the change to Pro. Bass fishing. So he is a great great teacher. I never noticed that huge diamond ring as a kid watching him. Damn!!! I ALWAYS have a spinnerbait tied on. Love to throw 1. I make my own with a lead mold and my choice of hooks and wire. The swivel is very important part of your spinnerbait. Fallowed by the hook.

Yes, he’s a fantastic teacher. I also agree with your position on the spinnerbait. You are spot on sir.

I started watching Roland's show in the early 1980's, ..also started watching Bassmasters. Then I got the BASS subscription along with my sample pack of Brut Tru-Turn hooks, Mann's worms (blue) with FS-454 attractant.. which I used to catch an 8 1/2 lb bass using a friends rod at Lake Chabot in Castro Valley, Ca. Thanks Roland and Ray Scott

Talk about slow rolling with a 4:1 ratio. And this was high tech in the 90s.
@johnhipp78173 жыл бұрын
And he said dual ratio reel 4-1 and 6-1 on a 5 and 1/2 foot rod. That's like a kids rod today!

Can someone expand on the dual ratio reel he has. Brand? Never seen one of these before.
@bdaquatics75843 жыл бұрын
He said it's made by Shimano but I dont think they make them anymore lol they must've realized they were losing money on people needing multiple reels for different ratios instead lol
@victordeleon1525 Жыл бұрын
There where 2 shimano reels that where made in 1989 one was the “shimano bantam black magnum” which turned from a 5:2:1 to a 3:8:1 gear ratio. And the one that Roland martin has in this video was a “shimano bantam beastmaster” which turned from a 6:1:1 to a 4:1:1 gear ratio hope this helped😊

@edwardbtown27662 жыл бұрын
@@MrCoffeekelly they are much better than penn,okuma,andall the rest.ive used shimano reels 30 or so yrs and they are just better reels.and they all coulnt wait to copy the baitrunner like penn did,and they still havent got a decent copy yet. Thats my opinion based on lots and lots of fishing.sorry if u disagree.
@MrCoffeekelly2 жыл бұрын
@@edwardbtown2766 you're the one who disagrees. No company makes the best reels. They all made a few good reels now and then, but also a lot of junk. Some of the worst reels I've owned were shimano and daiwa. But some of the best reels I've owned were also daiwa and shimano.

@@MrCoffeekelly i guess ive been lucky but when you get into bigger reels ive found them to work for me in alot of freezing weather my sister in law smashed my 6500b baitrunner on concrete and it still worked.i used the fx series reels with quick fire bails super stopper2 and dyna balace were great spinning reels.just what worked for me.

I have to disagree with the spinnerbait being one of the most versatile lures in my tackle box. There are plenty of times you aren’t going to be throwing a spinnerbait. A jig, a worm. Those are versatile baits that can be thrown any time of the year, any conditions your given.
@user-sh2mk8ew4c3 жыл бұрын
I disagree. Spinner bait comes in more weight sizes than any bait. So you can fish at ANY depth. You can use what ever color you want. Make your own skirts. Put small, medium or large blades. Put willow leaf blades, Colorado blades, or the oblong blades. I don’t even want to mention all the sizes all 3 blades come in. If it is dirty water big blades, clear water small blades. Nickel, brass or any color you can think of. I don’t know any lure a person can customize or make it fish in any condition other than the spinner bait. Get a lure making catalog and you can see just what you can do with a spinner bait. At the store all you see is 1/2 oz big willow leaf spinner baits. But a man can make his own or change the blades on that bait. Change the skirts. There is no more versatile lure on planet earth. The next I would say is a jig, after all a spinner bait is a jig with blades. So think about that. There is always a spinner bait of some variation on my deck. Maybe I have 2 or 3 different variations on my deck trying to find the one they want. But there is ALWAYS a spinner bait tied on and on my deck. Maybe your creativity is blocked by THC.

@@user-sh2mk8ew4c Are you throwing a spinnerbait in the winter? Yes or no?
@user-sh2mk8ew4c3 жыл бұрын
@@skinnyslims5327 THC!! absolutely. If conditions call for it. You throw what the fish want and the conditions call for. Sorry I did not know you replied. Only thing I do not throw in the winter is a top water unless I am fishing a power plant lake and the water is 70 to 80 degrees. Mark Menéndez has a video throwing a spinner bait in the winter. You can get it down to 30 feet and slow roll it. Can be very affective. I just disagree.
@skinnyslims53273 жыл бұрын
@@user-sh2mk8ew4c yeah we’re gonna have to agree to disagree because I think you’re a fool if you are tossing a spinnerbait during the winter.
@josephthomas83183 жыл бұрын
I think a senko worm is probably the most versatile artificial bait I can think of.
