Peacock's tone and attack sound much like they did in his 80s-00s years with Keith Jarrett. He seemed to find his voice early, and he's very identifiable. On this session, without that polished ECM engineering, his bass sound reminds me a little of Mingus during the early sixties on records like Money Jungle. He's not crazy aggressive like Mingus on Money Jungle, but that dry mid-rangy tone is a bit similar. Very different from Sam Jones, Paul Chambers, Charlie Haden, Scott LaFaro, and Ron Carter.

the dry and brittle sound quality of the original LP has apparently been replaced by a bass drum POUNDING in my head. nice tune, though.
