I had the great pleasure of being Tony's driver for a show in 1989. He was such a wonderful gentleman and offered to let me watch the show from the wings. Of course he was fabulous and the crowd that evening got his best, as did all audiences he ever performed for. At the end of a life, what greater thing can be said about a man, except that he touched the lives of many and made them more joyful

The Bill Evans Tony Bennett album-I still have it-still gives me goosebumps listening to it. One of the true masterpieces in music. Mr. Evans-read his biography-there's a reason he was so great-he worked very hard at it, studied many very deep composers and styles, then created his own. His genius mind helped I would imagine. Nothing good comes easy kids.

The clip is from a Clint Eastwood film, "Tony Bennett - The Music Never Ends". It's a terrific film. Some Eastwood - Bennett interview is woven into the film. There's more as an extra feature, at least on the 2-disc version I saw.

I had the unearned privilege of seeing each of these gentlemen perform, Bill Evans solo in Carnegie Hall, and Tony Bennett at Tanglewood fronting the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Those were two of the most memorable shows from my long and fortunate life. THANK YOU, GENTLEMEN. 🙏🙏

I watched my uncle Tony practice with Count Basie twice in the 70s while him and my aunt visited Chicago. I was just a kid and not into this music but I was mesmerized by the two of them creating beautiful music 🎶 just by themselves. Great video and thanks for the flashbacks of some of my favorite things.

For my money, there never were two more gifted musicians (put together) - ever. And I'm grateful to Johnny for recognizing it, because the 1970s for Bennett was a very slow decade. He almost stopped singing (unbelievable) if it hadn't been for his son who decided to manage him, who "rebooted" his career in the 1980s.

Bill Evans is not widely known in the UK. In twenty five years of playing cocktail piano here, I could count the number of Bill Evans fans I have met on one hand! Possibly the greatest pianist jazz has produced so far, but such a shame his music isn't played much on the BBC and other UK networks.

I knew Bill when he was working with Scott Lafaro & Paul Motian. It was a magical time for me.He was my idol.I wanted to be a female Bill Evans.I learned "Majority" note for note & told him.He invited me up to his apt.I remember his grand piano was stacked 2' high with classical music.anyway I played it (my back was to him) & when I finished he kissed me on the back of my neck(on my right side). If I didn't have my girlfriend with me that aft. I probably would have ended up in his bedroom.DARN !

They are talking about an era when there were record companies. That business model does not exist anymore. Total pro musicians - absolutely, but they were also trying to sell records. That system in the U.S. worked really well for the musicians and for the quality of the music too. People young and old went into record stores (no internet, no Amazon company) and they came home with vinyl records. The Carson Show helped sell those records and NBC wanted Johnny to stay happy, so there was good Jazz every once in awhile. And don’t forget Doc and the band!

Every musical act that performed on the Tonight Show, starring Johnny Carson, was evaluated and judged by the musicians in the Tonight Show Orchestra. These, were the best studio and professional players in Hollywood, if not the the entire country and the world of music. I could only imagine their delight when they watched and heard Tony Bennett and Bill Evans, two of the great legitimate stars in their fields, perform. I'm sure every cat in that band was thinking, "finally, a musical act that we can dig and respect for a change !"

Don't forget about Oscar Peterson and Erroll Garner, who were also wizards on the piano during that same era. Just a very rich period of musical talent. And I grew up watching Tony Bennett, Sinatra, Johnny Hartman, Nat King Cole and other great 'lounge singers' work their magic. All without autotune! "together again" is the album I bought, of course, in CD format. The best together and it was multiple tracks of the same piece when they felt there was a better way to do it! It was all recorded one morning, early, when both legends decided to do what they wanted as they wanted. I keep it as if it will be a keepsake to leave to a dear loved one because Bill Evans captured my mind and heart at a particular time in life when my chosen profession ended due to a severe embolism/orthopedic problem that will never go away which is why music is the emphasis of everything done on the internet equally with my love for pleasure-boating with a dream of a Rolls Royce Griffon and/or Merlin engine within my structure of a vessel that will serve my purposes of music, the water, mechanical speed from Rolls Royce, and doing it where I started. The Ohio River between Franklin Furnace, Ohio (Holiday Point Marina) and a multiple owned restaurant on the River in Ironton, Ohio.
