Whoever in the Johnny Carson team chose this performance by Tony Bennett truly has good eyes, ears and senses. He singing that invariably sad “Here’s That Rainy Day” in the presence of his contemporary Johnny who loved that song - that really hits home. I could not be sadder that we now have to miss both of those two legends of entertainment. But at the same time, I am so grateful that we had them. Thank you, Tony, for being a great guy on stage and off stage! You were a legend, you will always be one.

Nat King Cole is another of my all-time favorite singers, & that little duet with Tony was superb. I just read the next post & I'm crying as I write this. I can't believe it; Tony Bennett is gone. I could have watched another hour or more of this clip. This was the gold standard of entertainment, now gone. We still have great artists, who can do this music, but they are not in the forefront, except someone like Buble. I saw Tony Bennett perform in my hometown 10 years ago - he was 87 - and did 20+ songs. He was brilliant and in incredible voice. If he had not become ill, he would still be performing, as he had been until last year. His voice was still there. And his artistry. Thank you, Mr. Bennett, for decades of pure greatness.
