William Gudenrath is a glassblower, scholar, lecturer, and teacher. He is an authority on historical hot glassworking techniques from ancient Egypt through the Renaissance, and has presented lectures and demonstrations throughout the world. Resident adviser for The Studio, Gudenrath ensures excellence in the facility and its programs, and regularly teaches introductory and advanced courses in Venetian techniques. www.cmog.org/bio/william-guden...
Gudenrath authored the Museum's first-ever scholarly electronic resource, The Techniques of Renaissance Venetian Glassworking, launched in 2016. A culmination of a lifetime of research, this digital resource details the techniques used to make glass on Murano, Venice’s historic glassmaking island, between about 1500 and 1700, a period known as “the golden age of Venetian glass.” renvenetian.cmog.org

-- Bill and I were dormmates in Bateman Hall at Tyler Junior College. I recall him blowing glass in his dorm room on a Bunsen burner and grooving on Procol Harum.

I want to honestly say that the first time i watched a Bill Gudenrath video i wasnt expecting much. I was wrong, this guy is an absolute master. He motions are soo fluid and he seems to be working three steps ahead of himself.

I found myself humming Scaraltti tunes I thought I'd forgotten in my years after college... not from the Schirmer, the Paton (in my mind's eye and ear). The history gods have blessed the world with Maestro Gudenrath. Like a peice on a pipe, getting and keeping the story straight is no easy path, and the longer it gets, the harder it is. Love this.

Mr.Gudenrath must know his glass to be able to give a talk and give a glass blowing demo at the same time-- he's not just the voice over on their videos. And he's so calm.Very professional.

yes, but why, if he is a professional, does he make glass to only destroy it??-what a waste!!, when he could make it, and sell it in a 'shop', even if it is "only a demo piece".

@@andyvan5692 he's a teacher. People don't learn sometimes unless they see it demonstrated. And I'm positive that glass wasn't destroyed thats a work of art.

I started watching CMOG a few years ago and quickly watched everything Bill posted. Now I can watch glass blowers from all over the world and don’t need to know their language because he’s explained what what’s going on. How fortunate CMOG is to have him there.

I had no clue the narrator's voice of all those Venetian glassblowing videos was Bill's voice. Its very calming and probably 50% of why I keep warching them lol

I feel exactly the same way. I had always assumed Bill did the glass and some other Corning dude did the voiceover. In my head, Bill sounded much different. This is almost jarring to watch. :)

A note to your production/audio team/guy/gal/person/cat/dog: clip that lav as low and as unobstructed as possible so as to reduce level changes as the speaker turns his head. ;)

Please ask this camera person to film the goblet and how Bill passes it in and out of the heat and how far in, instead of watching Bill. We can't see what he's doing in the glory hole. Thank you so much

what a waste of good glass!, as he only makes it, for it to eventually be nocked off the stick into the bin?-why??; just because it is "simple" doesn't mean it is a waste of his time!!
