In 1954 Bill Haley and his Comets released “Rock around the Clock,” and it was the sound the young had been waiting for. It was the first record to have-all in one place-a lyric about all-night partying, a thrilling guitar solo, and a rock-solid beat, with its drums way up in the mix. What’s more, its success was on an international scale, and this is why it crossed a generational threshold, ushering in the rock ‘n’ roll era.

This song started the Rock and Roll Era in 1955 and all rockers who came after Bill Haley owe him a debt of gratitude. Sadly, Rap Crap and Hip Hop Pig Slop now reign supreme in the world of "American music". Can the Fall of America be that long from now? God help us all.

The iconic guitar solo was performed by the legendary Danny Cedrone, a session guitarist who often worked with the Comets, but never a member of the band. Cedrone was paid a whopping $21 for his work on this song and a few others that he'd recorded with Haley in a 3-hour session on April 12, 1954. The song was originally not intended to be recorded that day, but the band decided to try it with Cedrone in attendance, and a run-through recording was made, with Cedrone nailing the improvised solo in a single take, and this was what was released to the public in May of 1954. Unfortunately, two weeks after its' release and just three days before his 34th birthday, Cedrone died from a broken neck sustained in a fall down a flight of stairs; he would never know the impact his solo would have on the development of rock & roll! RIP, Danny C 1920-1954 🎸🙏

It 1st entered the Top 100 on May 14th, 1955 and of course peaked at #1 {for 8 weeks} and stayed for nearly a half year in the Top 100 {24 weeks}...

I like this song because it is like we are back in the day in the 1950's and bill haley will rock around the clock every time we listen to him and I was born in 1997 but I wish I was born in 1950's so I would be a adult all ready but right now I am 17 years old until January 5th of next year.

Shit, and I was born in '98. And I wish I was born IN the 30's. Then in the 50's I would be in my teen years and early 20's and would be listening to this too. I wish I was old right now too sometimes.

Recorded at the Pythian Temple studios [now a condominium!] on April 12, 1954...and became a hit (after it was featured under the opening titles of MGM's "The Blackboard Jungle") in July 1955.

On this day in 1955 {October 14th} Bill Haley & the Comets appeared in concert in Lubbock, TEXAS... One of the opening acts was Buddy Holly... "Rock Around the Clock" was still on the Top 100, one month earlier Mitch Miller's "Yellow Rose of TEXAS" knocked it out of the No. 1 spot... Sadly all three are no longer with us; Mr. Haley {1925 - 1981}, Mr. Holly {1936 - 1959}, and Mr. Miller passed away on July 10th, 2010 at the age of 99... May they all R.I.P.
