In 1954 Bill Haley and his Comets released “Rock around the Clock,” and it was the sound the young had been waiting for. It was the first record to have-all in one place-a lyric about all-night partying, a thrilling guitar solo, and a rock-solid beat, with its drums way up in the mix. What’s more, its success was on an international scale, and this is why it crossed a generational threshold, ushering in the rock ‘n’ roll era.

The iconic guitar solo was performed by the legendary Danny Cedrone, a session guitarist who often worked with the Comets, but never a member of the band. Cedrone was paid a whopping $21 for his work on this song and a few others that he'd recorded with Haley in a 3-hour session on April 12, 1954. The song was originally not intended to be recorded that day, but the band decided to try it with Cedrone in attendance, and a run-through recording was made, with Cedrone nailing the improvised solo in a single take, and this was what was released to the public in May of 1954. Unfortunately, two weeks after its' release and just three days before his 34th birthday, Cedrone died from a broken neck sustained in a fall down a flight of stairs; he would never know the impact his solo would have on the development of rock & roll! RIP, Danny C 1920-1954 🎸🙏

"Rock Around the Clock" was still on the Top 100, one month earlier Mitch Miller's "Yellow Rose of TEXAS" knocked it out of the No. 1 spot... Sadly all three are no longer with us; Mr. Haley {1925 - 1981}, Mr. Holly {1936 - 1959}, and Mr. Miller passed away on July 10th, 2010 at the age of 99... May they all R.I.P.
