Uh, no, he wasn’t talking about Avatar…he was continuing talking about when Titanic came out…and Martin Short interrupted him to change the subject about himself, and name dropped HBC. And Bill asserted himself and didn’t let Martin change the subject. So who was the narc? Y’all are just Bill haters, who’d find anything to hate on him for.

@@Tusc9969 DeNiro portrayed William King Hale, who was about 45 during the period this movie was set. DeNiro is 80. Perhaps not as important a discrepancy in terms of storytelling, it’s nevertheless an inaccuracy.

@@SnowyNightFlyer you brought up "inaccuracy", and I'm just saying there's no such thing as an "accurate" film based on a true story. I still think DiCaprio and especially De Niro were great in that film in spite of the age difference of the characters. IMO as long as it's well written, well directed, good performances and story is good... that's all that matters. Anything else, is nitpicking.

Capote Vs. The Swans tells the story of acclaimed writer Truman Capote, once a confidante to society's most elite women, whom he nicknamed "the swans." Scorsese needs to give up his obsession with casting Leo in all of his movies. Leo had a feminine baby-face when he was younger, and now has a bloated pumpkin head as a middle-aged man. He often doesn’t have the right “look” for these characters. In The Aviator he was supposed to play a mature Howard Hughes, but wound looking like a 12 year old kid wearing a fake mustache. In Gangs of New York he was supposed to play a tough Irish hoodlum, but came across like a try-hard pretty boy.

I thought about DiCaprio's age for 10 seconds. After that it was irrelevant. An older white man could still be attractive to the young woman and Maher knows that. The film originally, like the book was intended to focus on the formation of the FBI NOT the Osage, with Leo playing FBI agent Tim White. Di Caprio lobbied to take the screenplay in a different direction. Since he was probably under contract already for a hefty fee and was intensely immersed in the project, they let him run with it. I think it worked out fine. High Noon and Gone with the Wind have the same issue. I wonder how old the women Bill dates are ? 4:13

it defense of Avatar ... the second part "The Way of Water" kinda touches on the friction between tribes ... that it wasn't all kumbaya. The movies also remind me of a quote from Jared Diamond's Guns, Germs and Steel ...."“Why you wh|te man have so much cargo and we New Guineans have so little?" ... every encounter of indigenous cultures with Western civilization led to this question. In 90% of cases - if they didn't have it, they wanted it. Why is it, that even Indians on reservations today use ATVs and firearms to go hunting - instead of horseback and wooden bow and arrows? Because it's less expensive to fill a small tank full of gas (even if its derived from biomass) than to feed and maintain a horse ... and it's more humane and safer to take out a large animal with one 30-06 bullet than five guys shooting arrows at close range until it succumbs. I think in Avatar 3, the N'avi come around and eventually become corrupt :D Eywa, for all her harmony, never took the N'avi to the stars - and likely doesn't have the power to save them from the inevitable death of their sun.

It's is a time honored tradition in Hollywood to have an old guy play someone 30 years younger. They did it ridiculously in 1995 in Crimson Tide, where Gene Hackman, at the age of 64, played a nuclear sub commander 🙄, and then again in 2020 with Tom Hanks (63) in Greyhound incredulously playing a WWII destroyer captain. Oftentimes the old fart gets to play the love interest to someone decades younger, such as Brando in Last Tango in Paris or Nicholson in As Good As It Gets. Probably the best (or worst) example of this is Buñuel's absurd That Obscure Object of Desire, where Fernando Rey played - at 60 - a completely out of place suitor to two actresses much less than half his age. He looked foolish in that role.

Scorsese has a real problem with actors and age. Look how silly DiNero and Pesci looked in The Irishmen with that ridiculous de-aging CG. Hey, Martin, your favorite actors are 80. It's time to find a new batch for characters in their 20s. I did not like The Irishmen. I kind of feel the whole story was called in.

Other than the silly kicking scene the CGI was fine

lol He literally says the character should have been some guy in his 20s or 30s closer to Lily Gladstone’s age. Leo is 50 rofl.😂😂

Leo was too old for the part. Anyone who read and delved into the script and story knew this. Martin Scorsese certainly knew this but he just loves Leo too much.

Avatar is the reason why this Superbowl will explode: Cameron knows how to mix the interest of both genders (yes, only 2) pretty women characters and wild action for the men.
