How to become an atheist: 1 - think about any religion other than your own 2- think about three reasons that you don't believe that religion to be true 3 - apply those reasons to your own religion

I've tried that many times. sadly it isn't enough. they think the points that exempt other religions from validity don't apply to their own. religion, I think, saddens me more than any other imaginary concept on this planet that keeps people seperated. second being nationalism/race, the next being money.

Dreadnaught1985 Exactly, that's all they would have to do. That's why I consider creationism to not even be fringe science, but actually nothing short of a conspiracy theory. If the evidence really existed, just consider the effort it would take to suppress it! Especially considering that, as Bill pointed out, anyone who would be able to present such evidence would go down in history? It's a preposterous claim that virtually all renowned science societies in the world are part of one gigantic cover-up operation, for no apparent reason whatsoever.

Aaron Davis I can't remember now. My computer acts up when I try to reply and it will occasionally for some weird reason just erase my post. So, frustrating! But, yea, my religion? I read the Holy Bible first and get my answers before I talk to our priests. Sometimes I don't even talk to the priests. Especially hearing about their crimes against humanity. The two priests that married us have been laicized (kicked out) for being pedophiles just a couple of years ago. All in total we've known seven priests that have been kicked out and some have gone to jail besides being sued in Civil Court for $200,000 per abuse. That really sucks. But I still belong to them and do charitable works with the Catholic Church. At least that part is all Catholic members that exclude the priests and is truly enjoyable. I just avoid the priests as much as possible. After my experience with those seven ex-priests... well I don't know what to say. Peace to them as I keep praying for their souls.

+UltimateBargains I disagree. Science is deductive; it is an ongoing compiling of evidence and data to deduce rational and backed up conclusions in the hopes of one day developing certainty. Religions are inductive in nature; Certainty is established from the beginning. It is immediately granted that god is real, created the world, etc., and then from these premises conclusions on the sciences of biology, physics, etc. are made. nothing can change the beliefs of an individual devoted to a religion because the entirety of his reasoning revolves around the certainty of his god; you cannot debate the belief of origin with someone who is 100% certain they already know the origin. it makes no sense. this is why an debate between science and religion is doomed to an inconclusive stalemate and/or both parties thinking the other is of little intelligence. Scientists devote their lives to finding answers, while religious people devote their loves to the answers they already have found

Justin Nitsuj I have no time for the warped logic of strangers trying to validate their beliefs. "the is evidence and we ourselves are the evidence" What you have stated are nothing more than unsubstantiated claims and recursive logic. You can believe what you want but don't pretend that it's a perfect reflection of reality. You may find happiness in the bible but to claim that everyone would and using that as evidence is completely illogical. Especially since there are some questionable things in the bible. I'm sure islamic people would easily say the exact same thing you did about the quran and it would hold as much validity, which is none.

Justin Nitsuj We have evidence of cells changing (That's why viruses and vaccines to combat them exist) but we have no evidence of men being created from soil or women being created from a rib or any of that, there is more evidence for the position of cellular growth. Are you actually going to back up any of your claims this time or are you just going to attempt to cast doubt again?

The second Ken Ham said "No you will not convince me that the Bible is wrong", Bill Nye (or anyone for that matter) should've said "Then what is the point of this debate?", because if you've decided from the get go that your just going to reject any and all arguments and evidence presented to you, then debating you on anything is pointless. Ken Ham did this debate for one reason, to partake in ideological self-indulgence. He basically just wanted to spout his beliefs and ignore what anyone else had to say. Bill Nye won this debate before he stepped out on stage.

***** All right, I want to throw my own two cents in, an thd I want to do it in a more... polite manner than Tim. But there are so many things to comment on I don't know where to begin, and I think they'd make this comment too long. I'll start with the first and last things you said... roughly. "When the scientists finish climbing the mountain of truth they will be met by Christians who have been there for centuries." I encountered that exact phrase once before on here, which makes me suspect it's being parroted from some creationist site. Anyway, the first time I read it, I thought... and I came up with a reply, which I am pleased I can actually use. Centuries ago, Christians believed that diseases were caused by demonic influence. But we now know that they're actually caused by various things, from harmful microbes to genetic defects. You can't be at the top of the mountain of truth if you're wrong about absolutely anything. All it takes is one error to make you wrong, so anyone who says that the Bible is completely right is completely wrong. Same goes for anyone who claims to know the truth about everything. You can't really reach the top of the mountain of truth anyway, it's like trying to compute Pi. You can get closer and closer to it but never really reach it, since there's some things we'll never know, like what all the species of jellyfish were at the time of the dinosaurs, since jellyfish leave no direct fossils. Unless, of course, we invent a device that can basically look back in time, but I'm not getting my hopes up. And Christians certainly can't know or explain everything, definitely not why God would design our eyes such that the nerves plug into the front of the lens and not the back. I mean, seriously. Anyway... "we see apes producing apes, humans producing humans." Both statements are true... at the same time, because humans ARE apes. We do see humans producing humans and chimpanzees producing chimpanzees, but we also see species diverge and evolve. We also see in the fossil record the common ancestor of both chimpanzees and humans, at a time when no fossils of either daughter species exist, and we have transitional fossils from that to humans. You have to look into the past to understand the present, otherwise we'd never solve murders, for instance. You'd also, conceivably, take a look at French speaking French and Italians speaking Italian, and conclude that they've always been speaking those languages... when in reality we know that they both descended from Latin. I could argue against Pascal's Wager, too, but if you really wanted to you could look it up on Wikipedia. Wikipedia's great, they have both sides of all sorts of things, from Pascal's Wager to the Watchmaker Analogy.
@EbonyManta
@EbonyManta 9 жыл бұрын
Tim H Well, that's true. A more accurate analogy would be that the more places you compute Pi to, the more accurate your calculation of the circumference of a circle is... and as a bonus, you get further away from what the bible says Pi would be, which is 3. I really don't know how an apologist would weasel his way out of that one... As for my approach to conversation... I know that insulting someone is never the way to convincing someone... the only way is if they trust someone. And of course we know they trust no one more than the bible. But I know the temptation is strong. I recall one creationist giving this very long comment (I think it was over 3000 lines) trying to argue against evolution... and he got so many things wrong I was resisting the temptation to just slam my head into the desk and say, "HOW can you be this STUPID!?" Thankfully, someone with more patience, eloquence, and knowledge went and refuted every single one of his points. I actually learned a little bit about evolution that day.

its not patience, but deep humbling sympathy for the people who cling onto religious beliefs because he knows how scary and fearful and unsettling it can be to be lost and confused and in the darkness and found comfort in some concept/belief that brought their lives together. its hard for younger people today to understand and appreciate the pain of the older generations, many of which had very few opportunities to explore the world and find the truth themselves. the daily toil, work, hustle, surviving, its hard work and the only thing freely available to rest the mind and soul is religion. and on that basis they build their lives and plant their moral values. we shouldn't hate or feel disgusted by their beliefs, but instead be like Nye , understand the circumstances from which the older generations grew up in and be glad that they found something to believe in that makes life worthwhile. remember life is a process. and without the sacrifices and however unscientific lives led by our ancestors, we wouldn't have the luxury today to be discussing science vs religion.
@Wolfsbane1100

I understand why people can follow religions, and I can understand why people can love them, and base their lives around them. The hatred that I harbor towards religions are the churches and the people that abuse those religions for themselves. Those that use religion for monetary or political gain, those that use it to push their own agendas, and those that use it as a scapegoat to excuse what is otherwise inexcusable behavior.

I have studied Buddhism and there is absolutely no crazy dogmas or insane stories of killing or destruction or punishments. It is pure psychology and examination of the ego and self. There is no hype for either heaven or hell. Both are considered residing in samsara still which is not the purpose of Buddhist thought. With all that said are there violent Buddhists in the world? Sure but nothing in the sutras suggest this behavior so their motivations for violence come from other sources and had they in fact practiced the dharma they wouldn't be resorting to violence.

Second, the whole POINT of being completely outside of the rules of science is that he doesn't NEED a cause! What you were thinking when you asked me that question is EXACTLY what I was thinking when I first asked "what caused Nature"... except that MY position has a logically consistent out.
@ShadwSonic
@ShadwSonic 8 жыл бұрын
+Logorrhiec Exactly, CAUSALITY DOESN'T APPLY TO HIM. As would be expected of the being that CREATED CAUSALITY IN THE FIRST PLACE!!!!! A game developer isn't bound by the physics of the game he's just programmed after all! The point of the First Cause argument isn't to place something that follows that law as the ultimate origin of all things, it's the exact opposite: to PROVE that such a thing CANNOT be in that position! It isn't special pleading, it's systematically eliminating all other possibilities! And when that happens, whatever is left, no matter HOW absurd it may seem to you, MUST be the case! P.S. This question isn't showing up in the comment string either... not sure how that keeps happening, but there you have it.

It's a good sound byte. I backed off from discussions about that debate--I disagree with the conflation of the scientific method (a process) and atheism (which I see as an individual matter) being a necessary thing. (It goes like this: if, as I believe, God created everything, that includes things some other Christian brethren don't like, including the fossils, and logic, and the observed process of natural selection.) I won't call Hamm a poor choice of opponent, only because he embodies the notion that literal Biblical interpretation must suppress the teaching of science as we have observed science to work. I'd have had more respect for him if his answer had been "God" and not "Nothing" 8)

Pat Doyle This is exactly why we need debates like this. People deeply entrenched in either camp may think that the creationists auto-win by giving their view some exposure, but in reality, a large swath of the American public believes that the world is 10,000 years old or less (I don't remember the numbers from the latest poll, but iirc, it's around 40-50%!!). The more people that we can get to see the stark views together, the better. Science will always win. It has better, more fulfilling explanations. For every person that may be drawn to the creationist side, science will draw throngs more to it's side. It's good for people to question and wonder. It's in all of us. We just need to be exposed to the questions in order for us to begin to ponder them.

I can't see this as a total waste of time. Yes I agree that putting these two together is insulting towards Science. Bill is trying to reverse the damage that is being created by Mr. Ham. Some Christians will be swayed. As for people who enjoy science will not be swayed by Mr. Ham

What you don't understand is that science starts out with a huge presupposition -- that only physical matter exists, including there is no Supreme Being who created the universe and life. So what is left after this assumption is simply naturalistic explanations. No matter how much teleological evidence there is for an Intelligent Being, it is denied and dismissed due to the starting assumption. Christians are accused of starting out with the assumption of a Supreme God, but atheists also have their assumptions. Therefore science cannot be trusted as Truth, because it does not refute God, cannot refute God, but just doesn't address the question of God, except to assume that no God exists. So all the evidence we have could just as easily and even more accurately fits the evidence, but it is not even considered. Look at the DNA molecule for instance. The complexity is almost beyond belief and it has every appearance of being designed, programmed, engineered by an intelligence, yet when could it have evolved if a product of evolution? It is the only form of life we have any record of from the very beginning of the dawn of life and science admits it could not have self-created or self-organized. It's far too complex.

Going off of the rules of reason and debate: I've said it thrice and I'll say it again. Scientific facts based on Evolutionist theories and coming from the mouth of an Evolutionist mean nothing except to the Evolutionist who shares his background and bias. Your "facts" are unreliable and mean nothing to me unless I submit to your and their bias. This is why my "facts" mean nothing to you or any of these other Naturalists and Evolutionists.

Starting with 'belief in logic': Belief is not a requirement for logic. The great thing about logic is that when done properly all the evidence it laid out before you. You KNOW logic. That aside, the literal interpretation of a book written by men trying to give answers to questions at the time that simply didn't have the evidence or methodology to gain them being interpreted the same way today is a very sad thing to see indeed. One can't gain knowledge through this interpretation, there's no evidence to back it up, and it is has proven to be a detriment to society at large time and time again throughout history to be congruent with this manner of thinking. hawk8403 Let me pick that statement apart. First of all, you blasphemed and broke God's holy commandment by saying his name in vain, and didn't capitalize it. Then you said he has to fly down from Heaven, denying his omnipresence. He is in all places at once, and therefore doesn't have to fly anywhere. Then you talk about his club. I have no idea what that is. Is that a penis reference? Then that whole Hell thing. You do realize that's an invention of the Catholic Church long after the Bible was written, right? Then let's go ahead and grade you as a fisher of men. Are you even trying to lure us into your cult like the Bible says you're supposed to? It doesn't seem like you are. And now let's wrap up this whole ball of irony and put a bow on it. You're arguing your bronze age philosophy on a computer. You know how to use a computer. That puts you 2000 years beyond the ignorant, incestuous goat herders who wrote the Bible. They didn't even know where the sun goes at night. As ignorant as you are, you know far more about the world than Matthew, Mark, Luke or John, or even Jesus.

I understand how you all feel about Christianity, but I feel like Ham didn't present a good argument. TYT states that atheism is based on facts, but it is not. Ex: Atoms, you say they are there but you cant see them. Also, there are no "facts" for the big bang, it is all based on something that you think could logically make this magnificent world the lord and savior has provided. It is all a myth that does not make sense. You are saying that the big bang made these complex human bodies? There is no explanation for the magnificence of the human body. Ex: how did the heart start? Did the brain tell it to, oh wait the brain couldn't because blood wasn't pumping. The lord is the only logical explanation. There is evidence that the bible is real for example, there were several thousand eye witnesses, as well, tons of people had to come to a conclusion for the creation of B.C. It is used globally and most agree that our savior Jesus Christ did in fact exist. There are no B.B (before Allah), or anything to that sort. It was purely based of our great and all my savior. Science is just a rejection to logic, look up plenty other debates, the Christians usually win, why, because its logical. Just because you can't physically see the lord, he is there, just like we know air exists. So next time you go to church and it seems as if the message or this message here is directed to you, dont blow it off as an accident, own up to it and say maybe there is more to life than science myths. Life is just to amazing for there not to be a lord. One last thing, if you all r right and we die today, we end up in the same place, yet if i die, im goin to heaven and your not. So is it worth it that you guys are so concerned about being "smart" and having evidence? You tell me. I know my lord is out there with open arms ready to accept me in heaven. And i sure hope your running towards him and not away from him. Because the lord loves you atheists hes given his only son for you. And as i stated earlier, it is a very high possibility that jesus died for us. But i can tell you something, it is way better to live for someone other than yourself and humble yourself to the one who loves you most. *God loves you all!:)

Jackson Skeen Lmfao no evidence of atoms? Bahaha youre the biggest moron of them all. How do you think life functions if you dont believe in atoms? Why do you think water is different than wood? Not because god made them that way, but because of the atomic structure itself (you learn all this in grade 5 science btw) ; for example the atoms that make up solids have very little space inbetween them and thats why thats why there not flexible. Liquids have more space between atoms which lets them form to the shape of any container. Gases have such large gaps in between that the atoms have no distinct path. This is what allows gases to be compressed. Thousands of eyewitnesses? Lmfao wheres your evidence for that? Oh right you have none because those people died thousands of years ago. Atleast you can talk to a scientist today. You do realize that the bible was written over a period of 2000 years and by multiple people right? Uhm no facts for the big bang? Lol scientists have already found the type of atom that caused it. If the big bang didnt happen then please explain why the universe is forever expanding, and dont jusy say "oh well god is behind that" because the bible never says anything like that. The bible is supposedly the word of god so god is not behind it. Please explain that one because every scientist in the field of astronomy would aggree that the universe is in fact expanding. You ask how evolution could have made humans. The answer really is quite simple; the world is 4.6 billion years old as proven by uranium/lead dating method. That being said ; it would be utterly remarkable if we werent as "magnificent" as we are after 4.6 billion years of 'practice'. Although hard to believe we all originate from single cell organisms, heres a prime example ;semen/sperm. Continuing on, if we are made in gods image why do we have an underdeveloped tail? God must be a lizardman in that case. Which seems more likely and be honest ; we were created by the snap of a finger or we are the end result of a 4.6 billion year old science project? A 2 year old would be able to figure that out. The funny part about christianity is that no matter what heinous crime you may have commited, all you have to do is accept jesus and you get a free ride to eternal happiness. Yeah that makes alot of sense because by that logic even hitler could be in heaven. You probably dont know this but up until the 3rd/4th century egyptians were devout christians. Even ancient civilations found christianity farfetched. egypt is most definetly a muslim/islamic 'state' so what reason would they have for converting? People have found a gospel written/spoken by mary (the woman prostitute) and another that does not mention any ressurection. Theyre not in the bible for obvious reasons lmfao but they undoubtedly exist. Do some research and you'll find them. You do realize that english is not the official language of the world right? There are obviously different terms for BC and AD and to think otherwise is just retarded. You did not make 1 good point in those 3 or 4 paragraphs so dont think that youre clever. Edit: You say that we cannot see atoms and therefore they dont exist. Then you contradict yourself by saying "even though you cant physically see god, it doesnt mean he doesnt exist". Lmfao that makes no sense whatsoever Are you retarded?

The part of Hubble & the background radiation is near the middle section of it. Additionally what would become the Big Bang Theory is proposed by Georges Lemaître, who was both a physicist & a Catholic priest. It is however propose in his capacity as a physicist with the mathematical calculation required. The episode did a good job in showing how science is the cumulative knowledge of generations upon generations scientists presenting evidences.

When you actually put an intelligent person in power THEY will instruct the other sectors in what to search for. This country is clearly a corporation. I hear these types of comments all the time. And it's because virtually every president has personal agendas, very different from your wants or needs. A democracy is when each and every vote counts. This is called popular vote. Yet, Bush, Obama and many others lost the majority popular vote. Think about that for a moment. The electoral college makes it to where only a handful of state's votes actually count towards the Presidential election process. This is not a Democracy. This is why I don't vote or care whether my neighbor lives or dies.

Kev Mac That doesn't matter to those who are not Christian. I don't take the bible seriously, i do see it as a good story to always be good to your fellow man. So Just because it goes against your beliefs/morals doesn't give you the right to force them upon others, so in the end Gay marriage and Abortion being "Controversial issues" is just plain stupid. A Man can Love another Man and in 40 years people will look back and see that we were stupid. Abortion is an issue that is on the individual not the government, this is the United States of America where there is Religious Freedom not Religious Enforcement You want religion in politics then move to Iran
@kevinmcdonald2336
@kevinmcdonald2336 10 жыл бұрын
HeliosZx We don't have 40 years to look back in this present world, I guarentee that, because the Bible tells me so. Abortion is a blood sacrifice to Satan, trust me, I used to live in and love your present world and actually bowed down to Satan by killing to of my unborn children, while living in sin. Now I am a born again Christian, a child of God, and married with a child less than 2 years old. I have looked at my little child many times, that still doesn't have a voice to speak for himself, and think about what I did to 2 of these precious liitle ones, and my heart breaks and mourns for them, and what an evil act I did. Sure it was our choice but what a heartless, selfish choice it was, that evil spirits can make you do. Never again will Satan have power over me to do that again. I will now do the opposite like God has done, and that is, "I will die" for my children now, instead of them dying. Thank you God for rescuing me from this evil world. Isaiah 5:20-23 Woe to those who call EVIL GOOD, and GOOD EVIL; Who substitute darkness for light and light for darkness; Who substitute bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter! Woe to those who are WISE IN THEIR OWN EYES And clever in their own sight! Woe to those who are heroes in drinking wine And valiant men in mixing strong drink, Who justify the wicked for a bribe, And TAKE AWAY THE RIGHTS OF THE ONES WHO ARE IN THE RIGHT! Yes it is religious freedom but not for long, if you knew anything about prophecies and followed them, you would clearly see this present fallen world is coming to the end very shortly. You will be forced, as it is already happening dramatically, to worship the beast, if you don't open your eyes ASAP. I really don't think Iran would be a good choice for a Christian like me to go to, there are many many in prison and killed just for being a Christian. Or maybe that is what you would like; do you see how you are being programmed to hate Christians and feed us to the lions again? That is what happen in the Roman era and that is exactly what is going to happen again soon, but you wouldn't know anything about that because you do not follow Jesus, you follow this world. Your country's constitution was born on Christianity, but is completely falling apart now becasue it has been hijacked by a bunch of Godless rulers, which have been programming a bunch of people to become Godless. God bless America!! In Canada we are still blessed by God because we are strongly behind Israel, thanks to our born again Christain Prime Minister Stephen Harper, Amen. Genesis 12:2-3 And I will make you a great nation, And I will bless you, And make your name great; And so [a]you shall be a blessing; And I will bless those who bless you, And the one who curses you I will curse. And in you all the families of the earth will be blessed.” May God bless you and you become one of His children again.

Bill Nye is a better person than I am. I would not have been able to keep my cool, amicable tone (not that I had one to begin with) throughout the whole thing. That debate was infuriating. During that last segment they showed, a question was directed at one of them, they has a few minutes to answer, and then the other person had the same amount of time to give their own answer. Nye, being scientifically minded, honest, and, you know, possessing some shred of integrity, answered honestly, even when the answer was "we don't know, we don't have the answers." Twice, TWICE, after hearing that, Ken Ham turned to him, and in his smuggest tone, said (read in an Australian accent), "Actually, Bill, I don't know if you know this, but we do have a book with the answers, it's called the Bible." And there was laughter from the audience. That was probably the worst part.

Wow. I watched this debate in its entirety yesterday. It is 2 and a half hours long. Both debaters were respectful of each other and made their points well. To watch this video where they hand picked 3 minutes of the debate and where they were still cutting and editing even in those 3 minutes as a representation of the debate is ridiculous. Neither debater seemed to sway the others opinion but the info they provided on their side was great. Just respect the two brilliant men with differing opinions, there is no need to insult either one of them.

Not to my knowledge mkrulic517439 . The broadcast ended with the two shaking the presenter's hand and the audience getting out of their chairs and leaving. The debate took place at Ken's Museum of Creation in Kentucky, so I would suppose there would have been more people of faith in that region. Seeing if the audience had a change in opinion from one side or the other would have been interesting though.

It's very simple. One side has respect for facts and logic. The one does not. You can say that it's condescending or disrespectful for someone to call religious people stupid, but whenever someone exhibits complete disregard for proven facts and total unwillingness to change their views I'm sorry, but I'm going to call that person stupid, regardless of the issue at hand.

As we know, there are many approaches to debating creationists. Nye is an educator extraordinaire. His strategy was to listen to the questions posed, as well as Ham's comments very carefully, and then respond in a way that educates the listener without emotion, nor an ulterior motive. His debating strategy educated on two levels. First, with interesting and undeniable facts backed by evidence. Second, by exposing the extent of Ham's ignorance to previously less tuned in Americans. Nye did play politics though, as he appealed to the voters and taxpayers on at least two occasions. I think he reached those ordinary Americans who are not quite tuned in to this fight at the level some of us are. Time will tell but I think Nye at least educated voters enough to think twice about who they are voting for and to make an informed decision.

I see the debate between atheists and reliolots as analogous to a poker game. the Atheist's hand may not be perfect but it's a good hand, maybe a pair, or three of a kind, or even a full house. The religiolot swears that he has a royal flush, and he gives all kinds of reasons that you should believe he has a royal flush. He tells you that you will lose all your money if you don't accept that he has a royal flush. And he shifts the burden to you to prove that he doesn't have a royal flush. The religiolot tells you that you can change your hand to a royal flush simply by wishing for it, but you have to give him10% of your winnings. The Atheist doesn't say, "you don't have a royal flush". All he wants is to see is evidence of a royal flush. Now the Atheist shows his hand and, indeed, it turns out to be a pretty good hand. The religiolot shows his cards and all of his cards are blank. He then tells you that the reason you can't see the royal flush is because you don't have faith, the almighty dealer has chosen not to reveal the royal flush, you are simply ignoring the fact that the religiolot has a royal flush. You win the game, gather up your chips, and cash them in, while the religiolot walks away thinking he has won, and still thinking that you are going home with empty pockets. I know, I kept shifting between second and third person.Sorry about that.

Bill Nye admits more often than not that he "doesn't know" and has stated MANY times "I could be wrong about evolution." If a police officer asked "hey what's the posted speed limit?" to the person who was pulled over for speeding, and the alleged speeder says, "idk, 35mph, but I'm not sure. I could be wrong about the posted speed limit. " Does the alleged speeder actually know the speed limit? Of course not. Nye gives up all logic, "facts," and reason when he reassures us that he could be wrong about everything. To the athiest (believes nothing came from nothing), Ham seems illogical and foolish by stating that he is absolutely certain about the truth of creation, when in reality, that's what knowledge assumes. That's what logic assumes. Certainty. Ham STARTS with scripture as his authoritative perspective that is immovable and true. The athiest stands on a throne of uncertainty and skepticism with their spirit of fear and foolishness. Knowledge,m BEGINS with God. Science BEGINS with God. Scientists who believe in evolution have suppressed the truth in unrighteousness in attempts to live as authoritative God's themselves, and as perseved by many as the noble scholars with knowledge and wisdom. In reality, the evolutionist and athiest often times can't even describe what a woman is, what a baby is, what the meaning of life is, what morality, and why? For the sake of "science". For the sake of being "virtuous" in their own right. My perspective? Athiests should turn to God and reject their unrighteousness suppression of the truth. Truth starts with God. You can't make sense of an atom or molecule or time or a posted speed limit, unless you start with God.

Jamie MacDonald I'm with you, I hate that people are always trying to get me to change what I believe. They say they're "saving me", but they aren't. I find it a bit insulting that they're pretty much telling me that everything I believe is wrong and that somehow they know everything thats right. Its all just a bit frustrating. I would never go up to anyone with different beliefs and try to change them. I accept that they are going to believe what they find comfort and logic in, I just wish others would do the same. Tolerance is what needs to be spread, not religion.

9 years and the debate continues... Some believe that life started with a big bang, others believe that life all around us is proof of a creator. The debate will live on after we are all dead, so the more important question is, if there is a creator that created you, and you meet him when you die, what will you say? Will you say, your creation was not enough to convince me? Even though at that point you will know that the brain that made that choice was also made by your creator. You have probably already said "That is a lot of ifs" and your right. One last if. If the Bible turns out to be all true the verse that stands out in my mind is " On that day every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that Jesus is Lord to the glory of God the Father. The debate will end on that day. The Bible says you will believe. Whether you believe or not, Gods huge gift to all of mankind is a Free will. Think about it....And choose well.

Question to an atheist. How do you think the earth or whatever matter you think started creation came to be if you believe that something comes from something? Would that not mean something comes from nothing? You can say God had to come from something then. Did he? If God is the creator, then did God not create time. If God created time then God was before time and therefore always there.
@ThyBountyHunter

"How do you think the earth or whatever matter you think started creation came to be if you believe that something comes from something?" "Something comes from something?" I fail to understand the question. "Would that not mean something comes from nothing?"' No scientist would say that as fact. "You can say God had to come from something then. Did he? If God is the creator, then did God not create time." To create something and to think how to create something takes time, so it takes time for time to be created. God cannot live outside time. You present a lot of thoughts on what you think atheists actually think but your premise and statement is off. Atheist's lack a belief in God, your questions are for scientists...not atheist's. How it may have started is an individual position, not a position of all atheist's.
