If someone is saying something that isn't true and they are not qualified to say it then they should be interrupted when they are on TV. Philosopher Francis Bacon proved communication about the universe is complicated and limited by human vocabulary so we need intellectual standards to reduce inevitable accidental miscommunication. Conservative media has proved that humans can lack integrity and take advantage of this inevitable accidental miscommunication so we need journalist skilled in epistemology and educated in a wide range of subjects to call out dishonest or wrong individuals when they are on TV.

I mean, if there really is a Ford Motor Company, one would expect them to build cars that work and are not smashed or on fire! I just don't see any evidence for such a benevolent Company. This crazy fanatic next to me *claimed* that the Company built the care just right, but that later the owner misused it, which led to the destruction. I then asked, "Then why doesn't the Company just force all drivers to do exactly what the Company wants?" He then said I would be complaining about the Company being tyrannical, if it did that. What an idiot! I think every scientific, free thinking, rational mind knows there is no such Company as Ford Motor Company. I am totally willing to accept it, if there is such a Company, but I do not see ANY evidence for it. What? The Ford logo? Well, again, that is just chance. Randomness that uneducated people see as creation and order and design? What? Ford logos on the leather and interior and under the hood? Again, wonderful accident. The other day I heard of a story of a man raping a 1 year old child. How can God sit in the comfort of his throne and watch this happen having the power to stop it but doing nothing? If you had the power to stop this yet didn't you'd be considered evil. Yet in your cognitive dissonance you provide an absolution for God, and you cop out of giving an efficient response by saying to not question it because its "God." You're ridiculous. Clearly a being able to prevent suffering yet allows it by definition is evil. And as for your argument God allows evil so his justice may be displayed, why is it an all powerful God needs babies to be raped so he can be seen as righteous? And to intentionally create such evil just for your own glories sake? That sounds even more evil.

Don't worry about what other people think, you decide. At least decide with full intention of seeking the truth. One life in this body, that's the only time you get to come to decision that has a eternal consequence. If I knew someone was walking into danger that will surely get them killed, I'd do all I can to keep them from ignorantly make that choice. The same is to be said when it comes to our life after this one ends. It may come off as lashing, judgmental, but it's because I see an uncorrectable decision being made. Ultimately, it's your choice. When the choice cannot be reversed what side of the outcome would you rather be? Food for thought my friend. Equip yourself with yourself with humility and not defiance.

Our beliefs , the rational ones that are with evidence and the little superstitious ones without evidence, are relevant to both ourselves and everyone around us, for we every moving second push them towards others knowingly or unknowingly. You will see what I mean if you are in India more obviously. There is superstitions in every step of the way you turn to, got bombarded with visuals of rituals of how to respond if a person sneezes or a cat crosses your path or you see a person from a certain caste comes by. No country is spared of these kinds of beliefs. What I came to see in my faith is that a person is blessed by the presence of God when the very idea of God himself wipes off all the other millions and millions of beliefs in that person's system. And the faith make a person ever more sensible in his way of life and the way he responds to his fellow beings. As for talking about real world, I am of the opinion that we are far less equipped than a baby to sense and see the so called real world. There is an entirely different world when we come to a state when rationality no longer helps and extreme struggles, like disasters in both personal life and on a social scale, makes some people see through the membrane we are all covered in since from our birth.

Yes whenever you look at it from Niels view here it’s inevitable you come to the same conclusion he has in the video. However when he mentions a man with a grey beard I think that’s the problem. God isn’t that. God is everything and nothing, the plants in our garden and the president of our country. God is happiness we that gets us through the week and sadness that brings us down. The fact that we are allowed to experience life is enough proof of God. And on the topic of god being all good, well I don’t think that is reffering to what Neil talks about here such as disasters, I think that’s more reflective of the world we live in being all good, and the disasters can be attributed to just the cycle of life. When we watch a lion maul and eat an antelope we don’t think of that as good or bad, we just see it as life, as God.

@rmm38033 жыл бұрын
@@goofyboi1505 This perspective is legitimate, no need to apologize. However, the irony is that in this day and age there are more plausible theories than that of a Supreme Being explaining nature and the cosmos but we are so mired in centuries-old tradition that it is truly difficult, as a rule, to embrace new concepts and ideas as they become revealed to us by the progression of science. So, we deny them out of hand without even bothering to at least explore new possibilities. I'm not saying by any means that science explains it all but the fact that there are plausible alternatives to our current thinking should give pause to all who really think about these matters. Digressing, I know, but quick question please. According to theology (of most if not all faiths) man is generally placed at the top of all creation, and is supposed to be favored by God, to rule and be master over all other creatures. How does this comport with the now acknowledged existence of phenomena in our airspace that appears to have incredible abilities, far beyond anything mankind can even conceive of? Assuming (as I suspect will ultimately be the case) that these objects are the creations of sentient beings, how can we possibly be the masters of such creatures and where does that leave faith-based teachings? And if God also values human free will because he made humans as rational beings, capable of making their own decisions then you cannot stop us from doing evil or else he would not be all good in keeping his promise to allow humans to chose him or not; because there is not such thing as forced love it is like saying God should make a square circle or a dark light things that in their very nature are contradict and cannot exist. Tim Engelbrecht, he used a capital G in God, so its safe to assume that he's including Christianity in there with the other few monotheistic religions that believe in a God. do you have an actual opinion or response?
@matthouse62797 жыл бұрын
Rin Nguyen I have one. Science is a process-or way of thought-involving observing evidence to support some hypothesis or theory. Nothing is “proven” under science. There simply has to be recorded, observable results that can be recreated. Pseudoscience is actually the opposite of science. It ignores all of that by creating a theory based on nothing, then observing no supportable evidence. It claims to be true because technically there is no evidence against it (usually because the scenario is so ridiculous that it doesn’t relate to the universe in any practical way). This is what religion does. Someone creates a concept such as god and spins it to the point that no real world concept can relate to it, and demands you just accept it as truth. That’s pseudoscience; therefore, religion kind of is the opposite of science.
@Rín-wín7 жыл бұрын
Matt House, call it pseudoscience then. However, you seem to have a very generic, misguided idea of religion. You're characterizing them all as being based on nothing because you can't physically measure supporting evidence, as well as demanding that they be accepted as true. You are right that there might not be physical evidence that God exists, but that does not mean Christianity, or other religions, are based on nothing (its called faith). If you were to join a church , you can witness physical evidence that people's lives are being changed as they develop relationships with God. If you were to believe in God, or reach out to God, you might experience communication with God that is undeniably real, even though you couldn't physically prove it. Its always going to be up to oneself to decide what to believe, nobody is forcing you to accept God is true. Christians are evangelical because after witnessing the power of God, it would be selfish to let others die without atleast having the oppurtunity to choose.

@@richardcastaneda8318 The Bible isn't evidence, it's a fiction.Also, words are easily corruptible, meaning if you were to take any book and wait 200 years you can almost guarantee there are going to be changes to how it's written and changes to plot. The Bible is just like any book, it'll change in time as well. A lot of Christians are ALREADY claiming "The Bible never said being is a sin" because science found that being homosexual is not a choice but is decided by genetics & hormonal balances, meaning you can be born or grown up to be gay/bi. You can't 'choose' to be attracted to someone, it's just a balance of hormones making you feel the sensation of attraction & pleasure. I'm sure in 100 years, all Christians will not be homosexual, just like how Christians used to be very racist & xenophobic and put anyone who wasn't white into slavery but now it's negatively, less of them are these things. If you don't believe me, look this stuff up. I'm sure you will find it, unlike the existence of Jesus. There is a probability that there could be a creator of everything that is everything but it is definitely not Jesus Christ. Also churches, communities, and traditions of Christianity or any religion are also not proof, for real evidence shouldn't need these things to prove it's velidity, it should just be a fact like the sky is blue and water is made up of H2O. If you were to burn every book that was religious and every book that was scientific, only science would come back because you are ACTUALLY able to prove these things, unlike religion, which enforces you to believe what it says and shuns you for questioning it. Evidence should be able to be questioned or there's probably something it's hiding if you were told not to question it. While religion thrives on ignorance & weak people, science flourishes in knowledge & hard work.

If one closely listens to what he's saying, it seems he actually used faith to make his case against faith, which both undermined his point against faith and also his request for evidence to justify belief when certain of his views would have to be justified with evidence before you can make some of the talking points he did, which means to some degree it would seem there is a bias in his views and isn't as open as it seems. Of course he says "show me the evidence and I might believe", and that might show a form of open-mindedness, but if one is saying that he or she can't just believe things by faith while using faith to make one's case, then it wouldn't quite be true that evidence is the ultimate reason, but there's something else there which influences one perspective to accept faith on one hand but deny faith on another. This means instead of him receiving his evidence he's requesting, I think some internal evaluation is necessary, because the problem may actually simply be an issue with perception rather than evidence.

@@leecottles7743 he's not standing in a neutral position in evaluating the evidence. He's making a statement opposed to Faith by saying that faith is not a good position to take unless evidence justifies that faith, but then he proceeds to make a faith statement that "there is no evidence" without presenting evidence to justify that conclusion, which undermines his prior statements to be opposed to Faith when he's using faith in order to make his case. He's isolating only two attributes of God and not considering anything else whatsoever from the religious Faith he's using to make his comparison with the world, and is also not considering any other positions if any other Faith's worldwide but believes these isolated two things he's pointing out about God must be the whole story and all he needs to do his evaluation, which is not true, and he's using this limited information in his observation of the world without considering the whole story in order to come to a conclusion that it does not point to God. This is not an evidence issue, *this is a perception issue.* He further makes a conclusion that since suffering does exist in the world, that "there is no evidence of God's love in the world", and it doesn't logically follow that the existence of suffering means that there is absolutely no evidence of God's love. That is a logical fallacy, a non-sequitur. *It is a faith statement.* Just as there is suffering in the world, there are also very deep and meaningful things in the world like beauty, like music and art, like relationships and love, and the depth of how meaningful love is which no words can do it justice, which is why it must be expressed through music and paintings, or through gestures, or through movies, because of how profound and meaningful it is, and how such things like this give great meaning to life and therefore seems to point to there being a true purpose for existing which love is connected to, implying ultimate truth is connected to love as well, pointing to God's existence, but he's saying there's absolutely no trace of God's love in the Earth because suffering exists, and that's entirely one-sided *and not neutral.* It's not open-minded, it's opinionated and uses faith and requires evidence to break him from the faith he's using while he claims to be against faith even though he's already doing it in his atheism. These are all Faith statements he's making. If a claim requires a burden of proof, then the claim "there is no evidence" *also has a burden of proof,* and if he claims to to truly go by evidence, then he would do more than just assume there isn't evidence, he would support that conclusion *with evidence,* so it seems he is showing favoritism toward his preferred faith over religious faith, and because of this, he cannot use "lack of evidence" as a justification for his position because he's already doing what he claims to disagree with concerning religions in his atheism. Also, he's making the claim that there is no evidence which justifies belief, otherwise we would call it "evidence", not faith, and he seems to be implying that this is the actual official definition of faith when it is not (that depends on the teaching of the religion). So his conclusion about what he believes faith means is an equivocation fallacy, *and it is a faith statement.* It also implies that absolutely no person has a justified reason for their belief, and that is something he merely believes *by faith* when he defines faith that way. He's using faith in order to make his case against faith, undermining his position and justification for disbelief.
@Bi0Dr01d3 жыл бұрын
@@leecottles7743 also, although the scripture does say that no one has seen the face of God and lives, seems to specifically be referring to God's glorified form, because the disciples did see Jesus walking on the earth, and they did hear God speak when the heavens were opened and God said "This is my beloved Son hear him", so there were valid and *greatly justified* reasons for the disciples beliefs even though they hadn't directly seen God's (Glorified) face. Moses also didn't see God's face but saw his back, and his miracles, so although it's true that no one has seen God's face and lives, there can still be extremely relevant justifications for belief, so it does not imply that faith is equivalent to not having justified reason for belief. It also does not imply that there needs to be a scientific test in order to arrive to that conclusion or be justified in that conclusion. That is really assumed from a person's worldview that it must be in that form.

miguelpoky2 ironically, that is exactly how it is with God. What you choose to do is entirely up to you

science is based on real facts and evidence, so unlike your made up friend in your tiny brain, you can or cannot believe in science, but its true nevertheless
@tweepy1237 жыл бұрын
miguelpoky2 Except science is objective and religion is subjective. One is true whether a person believes it or not, and the other is true only for the person who believes it.

miguelpoky2 is "what not" a scientific term?lol

miguelpoky2 like bill nye and many others say if you can prove that the big bang theory and many other theories are not right, they are no longer consider truth. So in other words if you show us why we are wrong and you are right everything we believed before no longer exists, no longer is. As much evidence we had for that theory and you prove us wrong that evidence is useless now. So tell me how can you believe in science because it provides "evidence" and "facts" when all of this info can be deleted forgotten erased if someone finds another way to explain more clearly how we came to be? etc....

Could somebody explain this quote for me please? English isn't my native tongue and I'd like to understand what it means.

@@HelloGuvner The universe is not only a deadly place for life, it doesn't care about the damage it can do on a massive scale. A large asteroid could wipe us all out....a super nova will destroy a vast region of space ...it wouldn't matter to the universe. It's a cold,deadly place. But it made us. And it could destroy us. We matter not, to it.

We have a Mission which is serving and worshiping god. God created humans for his honor and glory but we true adam have sinned against god and have fallen short of his glory. Sin also leads to death so because god loves us he manifested himself in flesh true jesus to die for our sins to pay the Penalty of our sins so that our sins may be forgiven and we may have a restored relationship with god. Jesus who is god rose from the death conquering sin and death and in believing in him and repent from our sins we can have eternal life which is heaven according to gods will. So jesus is the only way and please accept jesus and follow him

@@florianikome3612 I think it's funny how you just say things, just stating affirmations... Why don't you say "I believe we have a mission" instead of just "we have a mission"? It sounds so boastful!

He says “all powerful and all good” . No where in the Bible does it say he’s all good. That in it or itself shows how little he has truly thought about it

I couldn't articulate this with such eloquence but I am nonetheless in complete agreement! I think I may have to memorize this, giving the credit to Mr. Tyson of course, because I would like this to be my answer too if I'm ever asked the same question. Listening to it seems like I've been searching for the words to say exactly what he said my entire life! So well articulated; thank you Mr. Tyson!
